Episode 6 – The first entrance exam

I flinched slightly at the momentum of the man in golden armor.

He is definitely his father’s friend and the man many say has the highest chance of becoming a sword master in our country.

It was clear that Marquis Sebatia Barito Encherus, the head of the Marquis Sebatia family and the current leader of the Imperial Knights, called the sword of the imperial family.

The reason I can conclude that the person wearing the golden armor is Marquis Sebatia is because I can feel the unique energy that only Marquis Sebatia can emit.

Swordsmen who reached the level of Sword Expert or higher spread their own unique aura, and the level of that person could be judged by how well they could capture it.

But now, the Marquis of Sebatia was distributing his energy to his heart’s content, probably to test my skills.

I slowly opened my mouth as I raised my aura to protect myself from the aura emitted by Marquis Sebatia.

“Royal Academy ‘Candidates’. This is Alberto Salihar Maydern. As a noble serving the Breggern Empire, I applied to the martial arts department to learn swordsmanship.”

I deliberately emphasized the admission candidates.

This was a reflection of my situation in which I was staying in the candidate qualification because I had obtained the qualifications to enter, but had not yet passed the exam.

The three people who heard my answer nodded.

“That was an appropriate answer, candidate. The basic exam is passed.”

Whew, that’s good. After all, there was a hidden test.

Actually, this was Nina tipping me off.

‘Bocchan. Until you pass the entrance exam, they say you must never call yourself a new student.’

‘Really? Why?’

‘It was written in the book that if you use the expression ‘admitted student’, you will be eliminated unconditionally because you have obtained the qualifications to enter the school, but have not been fully admitted.’

I don’t know what book Nina read, but thanks anyway, mother.

Thanks to this son, at least he was able to take the test.

Anyway, I never thought I’d hide a trap like this from the start.

Is this why it is said that the Royal Academy is great?

“Anyway, a good soldier should be someone who can objectively grasp his position. Let me know that you have passed the most basic test to take the test.”

Anyway, with Nina’s help, I was able to pass the most basic test.

Later on, she has the urge to buy Nina something delicious.

Anyway, as soon as I passed the basic exam, the numb eyes of the three people in front of me instantly turned into those of a beast.

Especially, the way Marquis Sebatia looked at me has clearly changed.

Before I answered, it was like looking at a blue-eyed youngster, but now he was looking at me with very curious eyes.

Perhaps it was because I didn’t hesitate and gave an answer close to the correct answer, or maybe it was because I didn’t feel intimidated at all despite the energy that Marquis Sebatia exuded.

However, the man in the leather armor was staring at me with burning eyes as if he were going to eat me.

Um. I don’t feel good about this.

It’s a no-brainer to get so much attention from a man.

“Good. I heard about your support department. If so, let’s start the entrance exam for the Department of Music from now on. Instructor Veras.”

“Yes, head of department.”

At the words of Marquis Sebatia, a man in leather armor came forward.

The man in leather armor, called Instructor Veras by the Marquis Sebatia, slowly approached me while loosening his shoulders, hands, arms and legs.

“Nice to meet you. Admission candidate Alberto. I will take the first exam for the martial arts department. Traditionally, a person who handles weapons such as swords, spears, and bows must have a body that can skillfully handle the weapons he/she handles. Therefore, this test will test whether you have a body capable of handling weapons.”

I was listening to Instructor Veras.

There was a rule that all academy test students should never open their mouths during the test except for the instructor asking a question.

Are you saying that asking questions before the explanation is over is not the right way to learn?

So I just kept my mouth shut and listened to Instructor Veras.

“The test method is simple. Instructor Bon will give the candidate a sword. You just have to take the sword and hit the scarecrow inside the main test site. The order of hitting is head, chest, stomach, arms. If the order is wrong, power is not applied properly when hitting each part, or the movement is clumsy, it is a disqualification. Then the test will begin.”

I came forward at Instructor Veras’ words.

Then a table was raised from the floor, and there were several kinds of swords on it.

A variety of swords were laid out, from daggers such as the Dagger to one-handed swords such as the Arming sword used by the military and two-handed swords such as the Two-handed sword.

All of them were extremely polished, as if they had been properly maintained at the Royal Academy.

However, it seemed that the blade was intentionally blunted for safety.

Among the dozens of swords lying on the table, I picked up the most comfortable one-handed military sword.

From the weight distribution of the sword to the grip of the handle, it was manufactured to meet the regulations of a military one-handed sword.

I picked it up and swung it lightly.

Looking at the feeling of the blade slicing through the air and the weight that was thrown forward when swinging the sword, it was a pretty good sword for practice.

Is this really the Royal Academy?

If the weapons prepared for the test are so good, how good are the equipment given during actual combat?

However, I couldn’t take the test if I was so sentimental, so I walked towards the scarecrow prepared in a corner of the test room as the instructor told me.

Of course, the posture when walking should not be disturbed in the slightest.

Handling a sword meant handling a dangerous object that could take someone’s life.

So, when walking with a sword, make sure that the tip of the sword does not point at people.

I walked towards the scarecrow, holding the sword lightly to my chest as if holding it in my arms.

Standing in front of the scarecrow, I used my right foot as a stepping foot and raised my sword perpendicular to the ground while stepping my left foot back about half a step.

This was the Meidern family’s unique swordsmanship ceremony that my father taught me.

“Huh!”

I took a jockeying motion and quickly swung my sword.

As my father taught me, I hit the scarecrow’s head down with a vertical slash.

Then I pulled the sword slightly towards me and cut horizontally through the scarecrow’s chest.

Then my sword came to the scarecrow’s left, and I planted my feet firmly on the ground, pulled the sword, and stabbed the scarecrow in the stomach.

Then he stepped back, drew his sword, and struck the scarecrow’s right and left arms with diagonal slashes.

After completing all the steps, I set the sword vertically and then lowered it to the lower right.

After finishing the movement, I turned around and saw Instructor Veras with his eyes wide open.

After that, the instructor in full plate mail and Marquis Sebatia nodded silently.

Judging by the reactions of the three, it seemed like they passed the first test lightly.

“Ha, passed… ….”

And then, the words I wished for came out of Instructor Veras’ mouth.

I had passed the first of the Royal Academy entrance exams.

=

Instructor Veras was reacting in disbelief at what had happened in front of his eyes.

‘A kid who seems confident in his skills.’

From noble mtl dot com.

This was the first thought that Instructor Veras had upon seeing Alberto.

Instructor Veras was a person who entered the Royal Academy with only his own skills, graduated with excellent grades, and once briefly joined the Imperial Knights.

I don’t know why he was holding the position of an instructor at the Royal Academy, but he didn’t like Alberto anyway.

Alberrot’s face was like that of a parasitic brother, and his eyes were so thin that one wondered if he could see the front, giving him a sly and mean-spirited impression.

So, to Instructor Veras, who always thought that a prosecutor should be dignified and dignified, Alberto was a candidate he didn’t like.

Even he couldn’t believe that he was the son of Count Dittorio Harun Meidern, the sword master he respected most.

He didn’t like the idea of such a mean-looking fellow entering the Royal Academy.

However, dropping Alberto because of his own personal feelings was something he should never have done.

This was an act that prevented anyone from stepping on the door of the Royal Academy, which is open to anyone with the qualifications to learn, which was an act that harmed the founding emperor’s founding ideology, and also went against his motto that prosecutors should always be dignified and dignified.

So he tried to find the wrong move with his hawk eyes to somehow drop Alberto on his first test.

The first test he was in charge of was to hit a scarecrow.

At first glance, the test seems simple, but as the instructor said, there were hidden pitfalls in this test.

If the batting order is wrong, you will be disqualified.

You will be disqualified even if you do not apply enough force when hitting the target area.

Also, it was a disqualification even if the motion when hitting the target part was strange.

In other words, this test was to evaluate whether the five movements of vertical cut, horizontal cut, stab, lower right cut, and lower left cut, which are the most basic movements of all swordsmanship, were perfectly mastered.

And, if there was even the slightest hesitation in performing the five movements, or if there was a part where less force was applied than the previous blow, points were deducted.

So Instructor Veras was struggling to somehow find the deduction factor from Alberto.

However, from the jockeying to the vertical cut, the horizontal cut, the thrust, the two diagonal cuts, and the finishing touches, there was not a single place where he could find fault.

Obviously, his face alone seemed mean and sly, but Alberto, holding a sword and engaging in slashing and stabbing movements, was like a finished swordsman.

The confidence that does not hesitate to cut and stab the target, and the delicacy that puts in only the necessary amount of power without unnecessary waste of power.

And finally, the last move to show respect for the duel opponent.

Indeed, Alberto could be said to be the most perfect swordsman Veras had ever seen before entering the Royal Academy.

Even when he swung the sword he raised to test it, the sound of cutting through the wind was unusual.

From the beginning to the end of the movement, there was no movement that did not show off the dignity of a nobleman.

After Alberto finished the last move of honoring his opponent, Instructor Veras could only look at him with a dumbfounded face.

After Alberto’s first test, there was only one word that came out of Instructor Veras’ mouth.

“Ha, passed… ….”

That was the word that announced that Alberto had passed his first exam.

Alberto Salihar Maydern.

The eldest son of the Earl of Maydern, he passed the first course of the Royal Academy’s entrance exams with ease and perfection.

And waiting for him was a knight wearing a silver-white full-plate mailer who served as an instructor for the second entrance exam.
