A Villainess's Struggles

Chapter 42 - The Villainess Attends the Christmas Party ②

After Blake walked away, I thought about his words.

"Just what am I supposed to regret?" I mumbled to myself.

"Hm? Can you repeat that?" Anna asked.

"A-Ah no I was just talking to myself... W-wait! Anna, where did you and Olivia go?" I said.

"Sorry Natalie. We went to the washroom. Actually, we did call you many times but you were staring at Allen and the girl next to him intensely. We didn't know what to do so we decided to just leave you" Olivia replied.

W-Was I really staring that intensely?!

"Anyways, let's go greet Henry and Blake~" Anna smiled.

We walked towards the two boys who were conversing with the older ladies. The older ladies saw us and smiled. They left right away.

"Good afternoon Henry, thank you for inviting me. Here are my friends, Olivia and Anna" I greeted as I bowed.

"Thank you for attending. How is the party so far?" He asked.

"It has been great. I enjoy the beautiful decorations here" I responded.

"My mother put in a lot of thought into it. I'm glad to see that you like it" Henry said.

To the right of me, Anna and Olivia were talking with Blake. I've already talked with Blake earlier so I'll refrain from talking with him.

Henry and I stood in silence as we didn't know what to talk about.

Hmm, there is something I'm curious about though...

"Hey Henry, how has it been with the red hair girl? It's been a while since I've last heard from you about her" I asked.

"W-Why all of a sudden?" He answered.

Henry averted his eyes away from mine and his face was all red. His one-sided crush is still ongoing...

"Ohhh... No progress I assume?" I said.

"It's not that I made no progress... It's more as if I can't make any more" Henry sighed.

"How come?" I asked.

"The last time I saw her, she didn't look very well. She told me that her mother's health condition was getting worse and worse. According to the doctors, they couldn't do much about her mother. I really want to lend her a hand but she keeps refusing me..." He frowned.

Ah right... It's about time. The female lead's mother is going to die soon...

"People do not live forever. It's unfortunate that her mother isn't in good condition. If the worst comes, I suggest that you stay by her side. Help her out as it'll be hard for her. Be that someone who can support her by her side. This will definitely make things easier for her. I'm only saying this if the worst happens. And of course, I pray that it does not. A young girl having her loved one taken away this early is really unfair" I replied.

"Thank you for the advice. I, as well, hope that her mother gets better. Also... Once in a while, I feel as if you do not act like as if you're the same age as me. I wonder why..." Henry questioned.

"Well..... Everyone has their own secrets right?!" I smiled.

I took that line from someone, who was it again?

"I see. Enjoy the rest of the party then. I shall greet the other guests" Henry said.

"Yes, once again, thank you for inviting me. Have a great day" I responded.

I left the area that Henry was in and headed towards the section with lots of food.

It's about time my stomach gets a treat. Let's see here...

Tiramisu, macarons, parfaits, tarts...

Should I just take them all? But I'm definitely going to try out that mango parfait. I love mango flavour a lot~

I took one of the mango parfaits and sat down on an empty seat. There was also an empty seat across me.

A familiar girl walked near me and sat down in front of me.

"Hello there Natalie. I hope you remember me. I'm-"

"Yes, you're May Mcbeth, how may I help you?" I interrupted.

"Thank you for remembering me! To be honest, I just wanted to talk with you" May smiled.

"Is it okay if I request something from you, Miss Mcbeth?" I asked.

"Yes of course! As long as it's within my power then please go ahead" May replied.

"Well then. Please drop that act" I smiled.

"Oh my~ What may you be talking about?" She said as she covered her mouth.

"I'm talking about how you're not this 'angel' that you've been known as" I sighed.

"How could that be? Please don't misunderstand me. People often think I'm acting nice but I really am!" May cried.

"Huh? Don't joke around with me. Last time when we talked, I clearly saw you smile like a fool" I continued.

"S-Smile like a f-fool? A lady shouldn't use words like that..." She replied.

Haha, here it is. Her 'perfect angel smile' is falling apart.

"When did you have the right to teach me what a lady is like?" I said.

"UGH! You know what? I give up! Yes, I'm like this, so what?! Are you going to spread rumors around? It doesn't matter since no one's going to believe you!" May glared.

My eyes widened as I stared at her. I knew she was a bit different from how she acts but isn't this a 180 degree change?!

"Um, I'm not going to spread-"

"Hmph! It's all because of that stupid father! 'Get close with Natalie.' As if it's that easy! He uses his own daughter like a chess piece! I'm out of here and I don't want to see your face again! Have a nice day!" She complained.

Oh... Okay?

"Have a great day to you too, Miss Mcbeth..." I responded.

After May left, Olivia, Anna, Richard, and mother came to me and told me that it was time to go. On the car ride home, I thought about May. I didn't expect her to reveal herself so easily. But, that was some good acting. Has she considered acting as a profession?
