Chapter 2 The Modern Food Ingredients

Translator: LiamHW

It turned out that Wu Dahu didn’t have the habit of snoring, and he seemed to be a light sleeper. Every time Song Qinghan woke up in the midnight, he could saw the man staring at him with his bright eyes opening, it was kind of weird though.

After the night of tossing and turning, it came to the next morning. Song Qinghan woke up in starvation.

He got quite easy to be hungry right now, not knowing if it was because he needed to feed the baby inside his belly or due to the oil-free diet.

He wanted Wu Dahu to make some meals of better flavors, but the house environment, which was in a poverty level, failed him to make that luxurious requirement.

After eating steamed bun Wu Dahu made, he asked in surprise, “Why don’t you eat?”

Wu Dahu paused, avoided his eyes and said slowly, “I’ve already eaten earlier.”

How have he had the breakfast since they were almost got up at the same time and Song Qinghan watched him finishing the process of steaming?

Song Qinghan was a little upset. He knew exactly how terrible to be a member from a poor family due to his experience getting through the poverty before.

Noticing his expression, Wu Dahu came to be a bit embarrassed in the thought of having the breakfast first. However, it was rather hard for him to explain. So he just decided to lower his head silently and carried his wicker basket and ready to leave the room.

“Where are you going?” asked Song Qinghan.

Seeing that the man was going out, he hurriedly walked a few steps forward, trying to follow him up.

Wu Dahu looked at his belly nervously and frowned, saying, “I will go find some food in the mountain, you stay at home.”

Song Qinghan noticed his sight and found that it was kind of ironic and dazzling.

Sure enough, in every countries dogs bit, men cared about the babies rather than the ones who carried and gave birth to them.

He knew the dreadful truth because he had witnessed so many familiar cases since his accessing to the career of a doctor in the area of gynaecology and obstetrics. Once he met a pregnant woman accidentally falling at home and losing her twin boys, her husband didn’t ever comfort her at all but blamed her not staying at bed in his orders.

Well, their fate, sure enough, was doomed to come to an end since her husband found a lover in quite a short time. What’s worse, the woman lost the twins didn’t blame over her husband but herself instead, she said that she would have give birth to the twins if she was submissive to stay at bed. What a domestic tragedy.

It definitely made no sense to make a requirement to stay at bed during the pregnancy, but was a rather creepy treatment and would got someone insane in that dreadful period. In addition, a female swine carrying more than ten babies in one pregnancy didn’t dare to stay numb without moving.

Thinking of this, Song Qinghan stuck in a bad mood all of a sudden. He got his face in an unhappy one and he said disdainfully, “I will follow you up. Don’t worry. I will TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOUR BABY CHILD!”

Wu Dahu opened his mouth but didn’t say anything. He opened the door silently and watched him walk out of the yard.

Not long, Song Qinghan saw the golden grain a hundred meters away. He couldn’t help asking, “Don’t you have to go to the field for some farming?”

Wu Dahu withdrew his gaze from the grain, and looked at the road under Song Qinghan’s feet and said slowly, “I sent my land as a betrothal present.”

Song Qinghan paused and turned to look at the man. It was at that moment he saw that a fit a sorrow flashed in his eyes.

“Are you that kind of fancying him…mmmm, me?” He asked.

Song Qinghan could only conceived an idea of a “fancying” stuff, there were no other scenarios he could otherwise consider on the matter that the man would contribute his land as the betrothal present.

Wu Dahu glanced at his belly again, pursed his lips and muttered in a soft tone, saying, “No matter what, I will marry you.”

Song Qinghan lowered his head and looked at his belly. Well, the confusion lingering in his mind dissipated all at once.

It was all counted on the man’s responsibility, and of course the duty to the upcoming natal child.

In such considerations, Song Qinghan felt somehow a bit sorrow for the original owner of this body.

That was the one who had been treated as a paving block for his family, and when he got no other uses for them, he got abandoned, as well as the one who was in two unhappy marriages, he didn’t get any love until his death.

But soon he realized that he was now taking over the destiny of this body. And in the daunting future with an endless darkness, he would become the ONE to taste the most misery life.

Thinking of this, he paused and then clenched his fists, in a look that he was ready for blocking the destiny the throat.

Hell NO! He needed to change!

Wu Dahu stopped and gave him a look of doubt.

Song Qinghan raised his head to look at him with his eyes showing rather sharp, asking, “Have you conceived the future after you sent your land out?”

In his current mind, he had his brain clear. That he should stay in the same boat and head in a right course with Wu Dahu right now was the wisest choice for him. At least he should keep in the united front in the food problems.

Therefore, it was impossible for him to live alone without the assistance of Wu Dahu if he was about to change the current situation.

He decided to put aside his prejudice for now and cooperate with Wu Dahu!

Wu Dahu could see that the man in front was little different from his eyes. He said honestly, “I hunt and I can catch some small-sized animals every day. If I’m lucky enough, I can catch wild boars and foxes.”

Song Qinghan was surprised, asking, “Huh? Then why didn’t I have tasted the meat yet? ”

Wu Dahu thought Song Qinghan would consider him as a selfish eater, he got his cheek blushed and explained in a hurried tone, saying, “I’ve changed them all for money. While the rice, oil, meat and so on in the family have to be bought with money.”

Fortunately, the easy-to-get-blushed man was in a tanned skin, no one could tell if he got his face red-rimmed or not from his appearance. Otherwise, if Song Qinghan knew that he was such a face saving person, he would have tease at him with all possible means.

After hearing his answer, Song Qinghan nodded thoughtfully.

Despite hunting didn’t cost much, if one was injured, it wouldn’t make up for the loss. Besides, no matter how powerful Wu Dahu was, he couldn’t get prey every day if the heavy snow came. Therefore, he still needed to get a stable source of earning money.

He pondered for a while what he could do. But it turned out that he could only offer the treatment of curing but nothing else. What’s worse, he was now in the ancient time, and as a surgeon, he was no difference with a bird without wings as he got no operating table and surgical blade.

Although he knew the knowledge of the obstetrics, there were probably no women here. As for the men in pregnancy, he was rather worried about the affair, let alone help others.

Seeing the unpredictable look on Song Qinghan’s face, Wu Dahu couldn’t help reminding him, “Song …Childe Song, it’s time to leave. I won’t be able to catch the prey if it’s too late.”

Song Qinghan came to his senses and asked subconsciously, “Why are you still calling me Childe Song?”

Seeing Wu Dahu pursed his mouth and didn’t say a word, he immediately realized that it was the idea of the original owner.

Since Song Qinghan thought that they were partners in cooperation now, it was better to be closer to each other. So he took the initiative to ease the relationship and said with a smile, “You can call me Qinghan or Han. I’ll also call you Dahu, otherwise it would be rather weird for us to greet each other in a honorifics.”

Wu Dahu paused, nodded and said ambiguously, “Then, H… Han, let’s go.”

The two silently walked up towards the mountain. In the middle, Song Qinghan saw a plant on the ground, which was quite familiar for him.

“Ah! The Chinese yam! Isn’t that a Chinese yam? “He shouted in surprise.

Wu Dahu lowered his head and looked at Song Qinghan holding his sleeve. This was the first time Song Qinghan took the initiative to approach him.

He followed Song Qinghan’s point and looked over. He thought he would see something surprising, but he didn’t expect it was the “Itch Stick”.

Seeing Song Qinghan’s face was full of excitement, he explained patiently, saying, “This vegetation is called the Itch Stick, which will flow out some highly poisonous mucus. If someone gets the mucus on his skin, the area on the skin will become red-rimmed and itchy all at once, no medicine is useful to cure. That’s why we call it an Itch Stick.”

Song Qinghan looked at him in a strange way, with his voice trembling.

“Are you saying that you won’t eat these stuff?”

Wu Dahu nodded. Seeing Song Qinghan jump up happily, he hurriedly stretched out his hand to support him.

Because they were drawn closer to each other with their eyes contacted at the same time, both of them felt awkward all of a sudden.

Song Qinghan coughed softly. The excitement on his face had not faded away. He pointed at the Chinese yam and said, “Be quick. We need to dig them all out, we probably can have a full stomach tonight!”

Wu Dahu was a bit confused on the requirement that Song Qinghan made. Didn’t he mention that this kind of vegetation was poisonous? Why did he resist to get them?

But since he could see the rare and pure happiness shown on Song Qinghan’s face, he took his action to follow his orders to dig the Chinese yam out.

After he filled half of the basket, he straightened up and wiped the sweat out of his cheek, and then said to Song Qinghan, “Is that enough?”

Eighteen! Song Qinghan counted on the Chinese yam. It was enough to eat for a few days. To that end, he nodded as to answer Wu Dahu.

The two continued to move forward. Seeing that Wu Dahu carried so many Chinese yams on his back, Song Qinghan couldn’t help but say in a concerned tone, “What about we unload the Chinese yams here, and when we come back here from hunting, we take them all home. Otherwise, it will be quite hard to carry!”

Wu Dahu was stunned, he never expected that Song Qinghan would ever care that much about him. In thinking of that, he shook his head with a cheerful smile, saying, “It’s OK. We won’t take this way home anyway.”

Song Qinghan could only nod his head hearing that. But another vegetation out of his mind appeared when he turned his head around and took a glance at the surrounding places.

“It’s fruits of cherokee rose!” Song Qinghan cried out in surprise with a hurried tone.

There were full of “treasure” up in the mountain. How could this big fool be so blind to find them?

Wu Dahu followed behind him helplessly, carefully protecting him and walking to the “Piercing Balls”(The fruits of cherokee roses are in the shape of piercing balls, featuring some medical function).

He knew that femina males liked some colorful stuffs, but these spikes seemed to be useless except its color of shitty yellow!

Song Qinghan waved his hand and said excitedly, “Pick them! I’ll pick it with you. This is a good stuff for making wine! ”

Wu Dahu got no ideas. It was easy for him to dig out the Chinese yams, which only required no more than half an hour. But as for the “piercing balls”, which was in the tiny shapes, he couldn’t imagine how long it would take. It wouldn’t leave time for him to hunt.

After picking a handful, Song Qinghan looked at Wu Dahu’s basket somewhat awkwardly.

Wu Dahu knew that the gap in his basket was too big, so naturally it couldn’t hold them. He wanted to use this as an excuse to stop picking it. When he saw Song Qinghan holding the piercing balls with his clothes, he finally submitted to it. Walking to one side, he broke a large leaf and made a small basket in his hand with some simple knitting steps.

He sighed with a relief after he delivered the basket to Song Qinghan, and saw him laughed in a good mood.

Song Qinghan also realized that it was getting late after picking up the fruits of cherokee rose

. After the fruits filled the basket up, he stopped and said to Wu Dahu, “Let’s go. Go hunting first.”

Wu Dahu finally heaved a sigh of relief and quickened his pace. However, every time he took a few steps, he would turn his head to see whether Song Qinghan was following him or not.

Song Qinghan also knew that Wu Dahu was anxious, so he didn’t look around and followed closely.

When the trees on both sides gradually became taller in the height, Wu Dahu suddenly stopped and whispered, “Here we are!”
