Chapter 45: At Death’s Door

Translator: LiamHW

In a rather careful discernment and trying to follow the habituate route of Wu Dahu to the mountain, Song Qinghan got himself in gear.

With a further observation, he found something valuable.

Wu Dahu might not be in the mood to erase his traces. Although the footprints on the road had become shallow, it was quite enough for Song Qinghan to recognize.

The further he walked, the bitterly colder he could feel along the way. Shivering a bit and swallowing, Song Qinghan still chose to march into the forest.

Not long, an obvious mark of fighting appeared right in front of Song Qinghan, while the landscape was matching the scene he dreamed about.

Everything seemed to reveal that all what he was dreaming was truly happened in the real life, on his pitiful hubby.

With such a great fear, he still plucked up all his courage to head to the place he had dreamed about.

When he saw the familiar tree not far away, he got his heart tightened, mumbling to himself, “Right here! He fell down right here aside the tree.”

But when he got approach to the tree, he found that something was beyond what’s in his expectation.

There existed no Wu Dahu, nor a giant bear. Only a pool of blood could be seen on the ground.

Dipping a bit blood on his fingertip, Song Qinghan sniffed it for a brief while. And the next moment, he came to a relief.

It wasn’t the smell of human blood, but of an unknown animal. Probably it was from that giant bear.

Upon pondering which route he would pick up to go, he found there came a burst of noise, and then a succession of piercing, frantic one over his head on the tree.

Song Qinghan jumped in shock, retreating a few steps back, and then he raised the hoe, looking up at the top of the tree.

This was such a situation, which, as Song Qinghan might conceive, that the unknown monster would jump down from the tree and kill him right away.

“Bang!”, as Song Qinghan was pondering standing there, an object with weight fell off from the tree all of a sudden, seemingly losing his breath.

With such nervousness and concern, Song Qinghan came to calm himself down quickly and then he found out that the man lying on the ground wasn’t other but his hubby, Wu Dahu. He threw the hoe in his hands, rushing over and checking out the main artery on Wu Dahu’s neck. For what he could tell from the diagnosis of his hubby’s pulse, Wu Dahu was still alive but in such a perilous situation. Song Qinghan then found some rattans nearby, forming them into a holder-like thing and fixing Wu Dahu in a comfortable posture.

When everything was done, he couldn’t help but search around. The next moment when he raised his face to look up, he found the giant bear with a fierce and monstrous look, the one which bore such a resemblance in his dream, was just tacked down right on the tree in a rather creepy way. With that sight, Song Qinghan lowered his head, shivering, and then tied up the holder-like rattans with him, he dragged his hubby along the way heading home.

It was quite a strength-consuming hard work for Song Qinghan who was still carrying a big belly. The boy moved in a rather slow but careful way.

It took more than twice as much time to go down the mountain. When Song Qinghan stood at the entrance of the courtyard, he couldn’t help but look back at Wu Dahu worriedly.

He felt for his hubby, the dragging process along the way exposed and festered every scar on this poor man. The flesh on his body, including his face, was injured badly.

There existed no time to waste, thought Song Qinghan. He then again dragged Wu Dahu into the room with a tiny bed, and then uplifted his hubby with a great strength. After Wu Dahu was set well in bed, Song Qinghan grabbed his hand over trying to take a pulse. BUT!

Song Qinghan found Wu Dahu got a rather weak pulse, a pulse nearly disappeared.

His mind was flustered and blank, but his actions still maintained the steadiness as a professional doctor. He quickly took the scalpel kit, disinfected one with liquor, cut off all the clothes on Wu Dahu and, and then commenced operating on Wu Dahu’s wounds.

It was too late now for him to look for the other doctor. If Wu Dahu kept bleeding, no one was able to save him even if a doctor from wonderland. What he could do now was trying his best to save the man he most cared for.

Not even daring to blink, Song Qinghan concentrated all his attention just on the wounds on Wu Dahu. He first dealt with the severest ones then the other.

Song Qinghan mustered up all of his courage, suppressing the great sorrow in his mind. No tiredness, no drowsiness. He just took a careful treatment as his best for saving the man.

It took a total two hours for him to deal with hundred of the wounds on Wu Dahu, and then he applied one certain medical cream on the man’s scars.

This was the most intense operation he had ever had since he transmigration to here. When he stopped and took another pulse for Wu Dahu, he found that he couldn’t even stand. He just barely leaned against the bed to maintain his balance.

Gathering one’s concentration on one certain matter is such a strength-consuming thing. So when Song Qinghan tried to stand up, the symptom of hypoglycemia emerged, failing him to stay even. With such a dizziness, he pinched himself on the thigh, leaning himself against the wall and walking slowly to the kitchen.

The good news was that Wu Dahu was finally out of danger. The pulse of his still remain weakness, yet it gained a more intense and rhythmical beat.

However, since Wu Dahu got such a severe injury, it wasn’t an easy matter for him to recover in a short time. In battling of this, Wu Dahu should remain his physical strength and mental consciousness.

Song Qinghan found there was nothing hard on cooking, even for someone in pregnancy, he then smiled in relief.

There existed nothing which femina male in pregnancy couldn’t do, but it depended on requests.

After things were done, he scooped up a mouthful of warm water and moistened his lips and throat which were seemingly about to burn. Regaining his strength, he went back to the room where Wu Dahu stayed, and then fed the man with half bowl of water, pinching the man’s chin and throat.

Well, there is no goodness sometimes to be a doctor at all, isn’t it? If someone doesn’t know any knowledge of medical skill, facing the current situation, he probably will adopt the most primitive way to feed the man with the water, like mouth-to-mouth feeding. Well, Song Qinghan would nursed such a pity about the fact that he exactly knew how to feed someone in comma in a more hygienic way. If not, he would have had a chance to “kiss” the man indirectly through that way.

Just as the food was cooked, he took the rice out in a bowl, and then rinsed again another uncooked rice, put them in the pot and started another round of boiling.

Wu Dahu needed to have porridge in current situation. But since Song Qinghan got another little king in his belly, he had to prepare more for their meal. Otherwise, he probably would not get a peaceful day if he starved the little thing in his belly.

Song Qinghan treated himself the meal in a leisure way. As the moment he finished his meal, the porridge was served.

He took two clean bowls, pouring the cooked porridge into the bowls in several rounds. As the porridge cooled down, he took the bowl to the bed, feeding Wu Dahu in the same way he fed him with the water.

After feeding two bowls in a row, he put his hand on Wu Dahu’s stomach and touched it. When he saw that Wu Dahu’s stomach was basically up, he didn’t continue feeding.

After he washed the dishes and then came back to the bed, he gently touched the forehead of Wu Dahu and found the man was warming up in his physical temperature.

This was exactly a forewarning of a fever, and the internal inflammation must be blame for that, thought Song Qinghan. However, the most realistic problem popped up right at the moment, in this ancient time there existed no antibiotics used for diminishing inflammation like Aspirin.

Pondering for a while, Song Qinghan decided to visit Xiaoqing and ask for help. Outside the mansion of Xiaoqing, Song Qinghan knocked on the door.

It was Xiaoqing who opened the door, and when he noticed Song Qinghan’s presence, he spoke to him happily, “Oh here you are! I’m so glad to tell you that my femina dad has recovered and everything is fine now. I’ve always conceiving a day to visit you for showing our gratitude.”

Shaking head, Song Qinghan came to answer in a sullen face, saying, “Do you get any herbs remaining? Dahu got a bad injury. Considering that it is too late to go to the town currently, so I am here to… ”

Being informed with the shocking news, Xiaoqing became nervous either, he interrupted Song Qinghan, saying, “Yes, we still keep some. I will get for you.”

Right in the yard stood the femina dad of Xiaoqing, the man walked to the door of the yard and spoke to Song Qinghan in a worried look, saying, “How did Dahu get himself injured? Is it bad?”

Song Qinghan murmured when he got a more sullen expression on his face, “He was attacked by a bear. If he can get over it tonight, he is fine. But if he can’t…”

The unfinished words seemed to be a great toughness for Song Qinghan to announce. But Xiaoqing’s femina dad could clearly sense the seriousness of the matter because he knew exactly how Wu Dahu’s father died from that horrible accident. He then came to console, saying, “Don’t worry about that. God will always bless for the ones who are born with innate kindness. You know what? Dahu is a kind of guy who has long suffered from bunch of sufferings since he was a child. But every time he can just make it through. He will be fine this time either, trust me.”

Song Qinghan forced himself a smile, answering, “Yeah! He will surely be fine.”

Meantime, Xiaoqing came back from the room with a packet of herbs at hands, speaking to Song Qinghan, “I will carry them accompanying with you home, and by the way I would like to visit Brother Dahu and see how serious injuries he got.”

Just at the moment Song Qinghan was about to give Xiaoqing a response, Xiaoqing’s father came out from the inner room, eyeing Xiaoqing and nursing a rage, shouting, “Hey, it’s midnight now, isn’t it? You being as an unmarried femina male isn’t allowed to visit a man who is married. Look how shameless you are, will you? Just STAY AT HOME!”

Pouting right at the gate, Xiaoqing lowered his head and showed a face of grievance.

His femina dad stood up right at the moment, as if he was afraid that Xiaoqing would argue with his father giving tit for tat, saying, “I’ll go with Han. It’s been a long while I haven’t seen Dahu. I will visit him by the way.”

Seeing that Xiaoqing’s father was still with a long face but without a word, Song Qinghan came to say, “I appreciate for that.”

Along the way, it was basically Xiaoqing’s femina dad who was talking. Song Qinghan answered a few times from time to time and skipped the question that was hard to answer. Well, Xiaoqing’s femina dad didn’t mind that at all. But what he mentioned the most was the fact that “Dahu got a tough life, it’s gonna to better in the future.”

In a flash, Song Qinghan finally came to acknowledge why Wu Dahu would care that much about the affair between him and Lin Dafu.

Well, man is always a creature of masculine. There will always exist comparison and competition among men. So when the pitiful Wu Dahu discovered the fact that he was a far cry from Lin Dafu, he failed to be confident. And plus, since he was raised up in such a condition, the sensitivity shaped his life. In a result, when he had to bear something out of his load, the man would choose to protect himself by excluding everybody and every single emotion out of his life. Only in this way could he keep himself in security.

However, poor Wu Dahu didn’t find that in such a way he put himself into another endless torment, which got himself more vulnerable to get hurt.

“Han, what’s wrong?” asked Xiaoqing’s femina dad.

As he saw that Song Qinghan was zoning out outside the yard and not coming in.

Regain his attention and shaking his head, Song Qinghan walked inside the yard, trying to disguise his thoughtful expression, and saying, “Nothing big. The little king inside my belly kick me again.”

Xiaoqing’s femina dad didn’t doubt for that, he then carried the herbs and put them all in the kitchen, saying with a smile when he came back to Song Qinghan, “Oh, really? Probably the baby can recognize his home now, so he kicked you on the belly trying to inform you that you’re home. Xiaoqing loves to do that.”

Song Qinghan smiled back guiding him to the bed where Wu Dahu was laying.

Witnessing the tightly sealed wrap on Wu Dahu, Xiaoqing’s femina dad said incredibly, “He got so many wounds? How… how can it…”

Placing one of his palms on Song Qinghan’s shoulder, he felt shocked, shivering but then consoling, “Based on your excellent medical skills, I think Dahu will be fine very soon. It’s too late now, but tomorrow I will ask my husband to invite a doctor for you here. Please take care of yourself while taking good care of Dahu.”
