Chapter 66: Encounter the Wolves

The lodge owner looked at the messy room and then sighed heavily, mumbling, “This is my first time I see blood in the guest room after I ran this business. How ominous! Would you guys please leave here? It’s probably not that serious this time. But none of us can predict the future if you are still here. I am not a volunteer to help you clean the crime scene.”

A trace of worry flooded Laifu’s face, he then said with hesitation, “Or let’s leave tomorrow?”

Wu Dahu shook his head, saying, “Tomorrow will be our biggest harvest day. If we just leave tomorrow, we will surely offend those hunters and fail to achieve our aim as well. That’s not worthy at all.”

Hearing that, Wu Decai echoed, “Right. We haven’t reached the goal yet and got the enough coins. Why should we leave? Robbing? Who dares? They don’t dare to if we stay in one room tomorrow night. I don’t believe that they will come again with a dozen people.”

However, if those villains and bandits thought that this team was rich enough, coming over here to rob them with more than a dozen people wouldn’t even be a problem, thought Wu Dahu.

Though he had already had a decision in his mind, he showed no eagerness to say it out here. After all, the more people, the more eyes and ears.

The yamen runners arrived at the scene not long. They took these three attackers away after a careful interrogation.

Tonight, none of them had a good sleep. But the clamorous situation after they woke up the next morning cheered them all up suddenly.

All manner of hunters surged and crowded before the gate of the lodge. All of them grabbed their own prey in hands, waiting for exchanging them for coins.

Wu Dahu noticed that the long queue of the hunters had dropped down to the alley. He couldn’t even make sure how early this group came this morning.

“Don’t come over again from tomorrow on!” Wu Dahu informed every hunter when he acquired flesh. He repeated the words without tiredness. He would repeat them more times rather than let someone who hatched a sinister plot hear.

He would believe in these hunters that they wouldn’t do something evil at all. Though not informing them would be a securer strategy, he would still choose to tell them avoiding them coming over in vain. After all, no one grabbed a life of relaxation. Wu Dahu was just showing his understanding and sympathy for all the hunters.

But when Wu Dahu entered the kitchen and was ready to process the flesh, he was informed by the lodge owner that no spare place was left for him to make it. Obviously, the lodge owner was a tough cookie either, this smart man was just making an excuse now since he couldn’t take advantage from Wu Dahu anymore. Wu Dahu then delivered the lodge owner one silver coin indicating that he would apply to renting the kitchen with coins. Noticing the coins, the lodge owner finally compromised and allowed Wu Dahu to use one of the pots.

Yin Laosan approached after the lodge owner left, he came to give a hand to Wu Dahu while complaining about the stinginess of the lodge owner. He no longer buzzed or said something bad as he did days ago.

Seeing that Yin Laosan was behaving well, Wu Dahu pondered for a while and then he asked, “Do you really have to meet the one you love? And ignore the perilous situation you will meet along the way?”

Yin Laosan was shocked after he was asked by Wu Dahu, he then touched his own face subconsciously, fumbling and saying slowly, “I thought I was not that kind of tough guy showing such an eagerness to meet him. But now I find I am just too naïve, I miss him so much!”

The melancholy on Yin Laosan seemed to be quite sincere. Wu Dahu pondered for a moment, asking, “What if he doesn’t want to meet you at all? Or what if he will kill you as long as he sees you? After all, he is a VILLIAN right now.”

“That’s impossible!” Yin Laosan shouted subconsciously.

“He won’t kill me, NEVER!” he continued to say with a firm tone while noticing that Wu Dahu was staring at him with his eyebrows raised. He then turned his face with anger.

Wu Dahu sighed heavily all of a sudden, he then responded expressionlessly, “Well, we won’t change the route anyway. Changing the route without thinking it twice will bring us some unknown dangers.”

“REALLY?!” Yin Laosan turned his face back, while shouting surprisingly.

Just at the moment he saw Wu Dahu nodding, he jumped up as high as he could with excitement. He then threw himself around there like a whirling dervish, but took a sudden pause all of a sudden and faced Wu Dahu, saying, “Are you planning to set off tonight?“

Noticing that the intention was seen through, Wu Dahu explained, “Right. We will set off tonight. We’ve got enough prey today though. And if we still stay here with our business news gaining more popularity, it would be a high possibility for a dozen of villains coming over and rob us. So I would recommend that we should leave today. And we can’t let others know the fact that we’re leaving, or, we can’t let them know when we will leave.”

Nodding, Yin Laosan responded with a decisive face, “It’s my show time! I will make disguises for you before we leave, trust me, they won’t be able to recognize you.”

Hearing that, Wu Dahu laughed out loud all of a sudden.

He never expected that this Yin guy whom he thought the most impotent was would finally show his real prowess this time.

This town was full of various businessmen. And the only way for those who longed to find this team was to recognize them by facial characters. After all, the other party wasn’t from official department, they had no right to check out this team’s carriage. In this case, as long as they could change or disguise their looks, they could make sure that no one got the chance to approach them.

After the discuss, the two packed all the dry meat into sacks. And then they transported them all to the carriage while there was nobody paying attention to. After that, they came back to the room and informed Laifu about their plan.

Of course, Laifu wouldn’t say no to this plan at all. After all, he had already achieved the goal in this trip. Though he still left quite enough money which allowed him to purchase another carriage of fur, he still chose to go back tonight because the more they carried, the higher possibility they might be robbed.

But just as he was about to inform Wang Yuanbao and Wu Decai, he was suddenly stopped by Wu Dahu.

Being such meticulous wasn’t because Wu Dahu overthought about the matter, but it could be told from everything happened recently that Wu Decai was somehow a man who harbored evil intentions. Just as a saying goes, “Harbor no ill intention against others, but never relax vigilance against evil-doers.”. In this case, taking a guarding measurement against Wu Decai wouldn’t be a wrong decision at all.

In a twinkling of an eye, the night fell again. Everyone in this team went upstairs and entered their own rooms after dinner.

The room which was stuffed with full of fur previously now was just neatly empty. Those goods were all transported by Wu Dahu onto the carriage in a sneaky way in case they were wholly prepared to leave.

Wu Dahu opened the rear window, took a glance outside. He tied all quilts in hands up and then bound one end of the quilt-made rope on a certain node aside the window. Knocking on the wall, Wu Dahu then grab the quilt tight and slide downward quickly after he got the response from the next room.

Though Laifu was so frightened that he got both his hands soaked with sweat, he still plucked up all his courage and grasped the quilt decisively, sliding down to the ground as Wu Dahu did.

Yin Laosan, Wu Decai and Wang Yuanbao followed the pace and slid down one after another. It could be clearly seen that Wu Decai was putting on a long face because Laifu didn’t inform him the news in advance. Though it was hard to tell while it was covered by the darkness of the night, Wu Dahu still caught the detail while grabbing a long observation over that.

The five sneakily walked to the stable, untied the rope and then dragged the horse slowly toward outside.

Wu Dahu wasn’t worried about the scenario that the lodge owner would report a case of escape or hold a grudge on them because they had paid the bill for three days of the rooms.

After entering the carriage, Yin Laosan took out several bottles quickly from his own baggage, and then applied some of the cream in the bottle on Wu Dahu’s face, and then he said in satisfaction, “It’s done now. Take a look.”

After that, he rushed to the carriage in front, and then commenced putting on the cream for the other three.

Wu Dahu took up the bronze mirror Yin Laosan gave to him. With the moonlight, he finally made it to see clearly on his own face. But just at the moment he saw himself in the mirror, he almost dropped it.

Well, no wonder why Laifu would exclaim the prowess Yin Laosan possessed days ago, Yin Laosan just took a few steps to hide the clean-cut edges of Wu Dahu’s facial features, which definitely turned him into an exquisite childe with a delicate face.

Several people in front was checking the appearance of Laifu and the other two, but the next minute they withdrew in a flash while shouting, “Change the direction! They are not here, they must be still in the town!”

Just as they withdrew like a tide, Wu Dahu finally heaved a sigh with relief.

What a group of savages! They dared to search for them wantonly on the road. If it wasn’t the disguise… probably they would have met some troubles.

Yin Laosan patted himself on the chest, saying, “It’s lucky for us that they did not stretch their heads in. Otherwise none of us is able to escape from their chase. I would never expect that we do not die from encountering beasts but savage!”

Probably it was rather terrifying for all the five, they didn’t dare to take a pause at all, but speeded up, rushing into the woods.

It was hard for them to take a smooth trip at night, and the nights in woods was even worse. Not long after their second try to set off, they were stopped and surrounded by a group of starving wolves.

Wu Dahu held the dagger tight in hand, and then spoke to Yin Laosan, saying, “You just stay in the carriage and don’t go out, if wolves break in, kick them out of the carriage.”

Noticing that the eyes of Yin Laosan were filled with frights, he pondered a while and then detached the crossbow on his wrist and handed it to Yin Laosan, saying, “If I encounter something bad, lead Laifu to get out of here.”

Yin Laosan failed to say something after Wu Dahu left for fighting against the wolves, what he could only do now was to withdraw his tears and hold tight the crossbow and pay close attention to the situation on the carriage curtain. Once there was something strange, he should trigger the crossbow without hesitation!

If there only existed just several wolves, it would be much easier for Wu Dahu to handle. But… the quantity of the wolves right now was huge.

Wu Dahu bent his body with his nerve strained, being quite meticulous on his action and staring at the group of wolves.

As long as the group of wild wolves was formed, there must be a leader among them. Fighting against a wolfpack doesn’t mean to fight against every single wolf. If Wu Dahu could make it to defeat the king of among the wolves, he would succeed and survive.

Wu Decai and Wang Yuanbao had also come out of the carriage. It could be seen that they were very nervous currently. Wang Yuanbao was with a face of fright while Wu Decai looked more peaceful.
