Chapter 74: The Baby Child- Little Shitou

Translator: LiamHW

As a western medicine graduate, of course Song Qinghan knew the importance and effect of the breathing method when it came to a crucial operation. So he was quite obedient to the midwifery man. As the midwifery man’s hand pressed he exhaled, and inhaled while the midwifery man got his hand loosened.

Although it was just a tiny change, he could clearly feel that his whole body was in a relieving situation. As he got his breath evener, the pain on his belly mitigated.

The break on Song Qinghan’s belly still kept widening, but the speed was getting slower and slower till it almost stopped tearing.

Suddenly, the midwifery man shouted, “Alright! NOW, exert, push as hard as you can!”

Song Qinghan was startled by the sudden roar of the midwifery man. The self-preserved strength was swept away in a flash, he could only restart adjusting his breath and congregating his strength to gather all his energy on his belly.

The midwifery man somehow was nothing useful currently. As soon as Song Qinghan succeeded finding the tempo he could spurted all his strength, he was again disrupted by the annoying roar of the midwifery man which failed him to make any result for several attempts.

However, the midwifery man was unaware of his mistakes but just kept urging and shouting, “Harder! Are you disabled? Aren’t you able to do that? Hurry up!”

Hearing that, Song Qinghan was finally ignited, he responded with his face getting sullen all of a sudden, “Shut up, You! I’m gonna kill you if you dare to make more meaningless noises.”

He was already in extreme pain, in addition, the failure to congregate all his strength made him gloomy and fidgeted. That was why he would shout back in a heavy tone.

But the midwifery man seemed not to intend to sympathize Song Qinghan at all. Though he had shut his mouth tight standing there, he still stared at Song Qinghan relentlessly. The overflowing grievance almost flow out from his rounded and bulging eyes.

Wu Dahu heard Song Qinghan’s words outside the room and then he stopped pacing around, as if he was quite afraid that his footsteps would annoy and disturb Song Qinghan. He just stood stationary outside the delivery room, showing all his eagerness to get further information of Song Qinghan by the window.

Song Qinghan focused his attention back on his belly, following his own tempo breathing. With another round of striving, a black hair finally emerged inside his belly.

However, no matter how hard he tried, the baby’s head seemed to be stuck stiffly. Only a little hair popped out and the rest was just seized up without any movement.

The midwifery man suddenly snorted coldly, saying in a disdaining tone, “See? What did I just say?! The fetus is way too big, he’s facing the difficult delivery right now! You, or the fetus, choose one now. Hurry up, I have no time wasting here.”

Hearing that, Song Qinghan was discouraged all of a sudden while the strength he gathered dissipated, he then squinted, ordering, “Get me boiled water! Liquor! Candle! Needles! Prepare them all for me!”

Although his voice wasn’t that loud, Wu Dahu still could hear that clearly in the environment of complete silence. He then moved as fast as he could, and not long he got everything Song Qinghan ordered and then knocked on the door.

Yuan Wenxuan took over everything with a rather calm face, and then placed them all aside Song Qinghan in the bed.

Following the steps that Song Qinghan ordered, Yuan Wenxuan disinfected every tool. After that, Song Qinghan pursed his lips, struggling to semi-reclining backrest with his head leaning against the pillar, saying confidently, “Watch me! I will show you today how a doctor treat himself.”

Being inspired by Song Qinghan’s optimism, Yuan Wenxuan nodded solemnly and looked at Song Qinghan’s movements without even a blink.

Racing against the clock should be the most significant matter that Song Qinghan should consider. Because the longer the child stayed in his belly, the more risks would be posted both to him and the child.

After he washed his hands and disinfected them with liquor, he decisively picked up one of the scalpels and calmly placed his hands on his stomach. After confirming that it was the child’s ear which cause the child stuck, he gestured a bit on his belly and then used the scalpel to cut on his own belly.

Seeing that, the midwifery was putting an utter shock on his face. With an ear-splitting scream, he retreated to the corner of the wall.

Yuan Wenxuan glanced at Song Qinghan worriedly, while being afraid that his Master probably would be disturbed by the annoying scream from the midwifery man. This process required such a whole absorption in it, any mistake would definitely cause a severe consequence.

However, it seemed that Song Qinghan had sunk into a vacuum surrounded by fully immaterial matters while he focused on the whole operation. Everything around him seemed to be nothing, failing to trouble Song Qinghan from his absorption. All his attention was gathered on the scalpel in his hand.

He got a quite smooth move, and then adjust his breath again until he had cut the proper length on his belly. And again, he commenced congregating all his strength to his belly.

With that cut, more and more blood flowed out from Song Qinghan’s belly. This horrifying scene scared Yuan Wenxuan a lot.

Song Qinghan’s eyes were as cold as ice, as if he was not staring at his own belly spouting out blood but other’s. When the baby was fully exposed, he picked up the scissors, and then cut the umbilical cord, delivering the child to Yuan Wenxuan and ordering, “The prepared quilt is on the table, clean him with warm water and then wrap him with the quilt.”

Yuan Wenxuan took over the soft and seemingly boneless fetus, he couldn’t even breathe to hold the baby in his arms as if his heart was hung up high in the air. Fortunately, Yuan Wenxuan was a boy of prudence, he carried the baby over without trembling or shivering. With a quick movement, he used the warm water to wipe the whole body of the fetus and then wrapped him with the quilt on the table.

The natural and sophisticated movements of Yuan Wenxuan shocked the midwifery man. That was such an insult to him that even a youth was doing better than him.

After that, Song Qinghan bit his lips as hard as he could. He wanted to keep his soberness by diverting the pain. And then he picked the needle and commenced sewing himself on his belly.

Just as the sewing process finished, Song Qinghan fell back all of a sudden and passed out.

Wu Dahu rushed in immediately after hearing the baby’s cry. He stopped by the door and stayed there to rub his body. After the cold on his body dissipated, he rushed to Song Qinghan’s bed. He could see nothing but blood everywhere. Tears lingered in his eyes while he felt so much for his husband.

Qin Aye regained his attention after Wu Dahu came in. He went over to help Song Qinghan fix his clothes while consoling Wu Dahu, saying, “Dahu, your husband will be fine. The good are protected by the Great Buddha. Go and see your son. That child can’t hold your baby.”

A rare blush appeared on Yuan Wenxuan’s sullen face when the boy heard what Qin Aye said, “I… Of course I can hold on… It, it’s just because I am holding him in a wrong gesture.”

Wu Dahu reached out and took over the sobbing child in his chest, smiling to Yuan Wenxuan and thanking him. Then he took out a red envelop he had prepared earlier and put it into the hand of the midwifery man, and said in a low voice, “For the sake of my family’s joy today, I won’t argue with you, but if you continue to fool people in the future, someone gives you some lessons sooner or later!”

At the moment the midwifery touched the red envelop, he was regretful all at once. If he knew that Wu Dahu would give him such a huge amount of money in advance, he would have been more earnest. If he did so, he probably could get more money from that. However, it was too late to regret now, in addition, Song Qinghan had given him an impressive lesson now. He was just like a fox tucking his own tail, flattering to Wu Dahu while heading outward.

But after walking out of the courtyard of Wu Dahu’s house, his first reaction was not that he was too perfunctory just now, but that the family was too tough.

Wu Dahu carried the baby to Song Qinghan and carefully placed the baby beside him..

Qin Aye waved at Yuan Wenxuan, while heading outward and saying to Wu Dahu in a low voice, “We’ll out for preparing the child’s food, enjoy your family moment with Qinghan.”

Wu Dahu nodded. After the two left, he sighed softly, reached out and caressed Song Qinghan’s messy hair and said slowly, “You must have suffered from it, my husband. Thank you!”

Well, thanks to the sewing prowess Song Qinghan possesses. With that talent, he succeeded saving himself from the gate of hell.

Just as Wu Dahu thought of the matter of the midwifery thing, he blamed himself for not making an appointment in advance.

Qin Aye walked in in tiptoe and with a bowl of congee in hands and then spoke to Wu Dahu, saying, “I’ll get the baby, he must be starved later.”

As soon as he finished his words, the baby in Wu Dahu’s arms pursed his own lips and then commenced crying like a baby kitten.

Song Qinghan was woken up by the crying and then slowly opened his heavy eyelids. He was a little embarrassed when he saw the little baby’s red-rimmed face.

Well, the child must be hungry now, but… but how was he supposed to do as a male?

Fortunately, Qin Aye found out the confusion of Song Qinghan, he just scooped up a spoonful of congee, blew it a bit and then delivered it into the mouth of the baby.

Staring at the child who was now smacking his lips and swallowing the congee, Song Qinghan asked curiously, “Is it fine for him to eat something like that? Won’t he lack of nutrition?”

Qin Aye explained patiently, “The children of poor family grow up eating congee. Only wealthy families can afford something other for their baby to eat, something like precious milk from goat and dairy cattle.”

It was the first time for Wu Dahu to know either that there existed other things for babies to eat besides congee. He pondered for a while and then asked, “Where can we get the milk?”

He had never seen any goat or cattle in the mountain when he hunted there before. In that case, he could only think about purchasing them from the market.

Qin Aye shook his head and said regretfully, “I’m not quite sure either. But I was informed by the man who told me the fact that all the milk came from the Northwest. Probably it should be purchased from that place.”

Song Qinghan nodded, but he didn’t find it a pity. Although feeding the child milk was really way better for the child’s growth than any other. But if they had no choice, congee could be a better choice for the baby to get through his whole childhood. Since every poor child grow up in such environment and was fine with it, nothing would be a problem at all.

However, Wu Dahu kept this in mind secretly, he would love to visit the Northwest place one day if he got a chance to and to see whether he could bring one goat back or not.

After Qin Aye finished feeding the baby with congee, he suddenly recalled something in mind, asking, “You haven’t named your child, have you? Get him a name! Or at least a pet name! He should have one.”

Wu Dahu and Song Qinghan stared at each other, it seemed that they were both waiting for the answer from the other party.

Later, it was Song Qinghan who broke the silence, “Then call him Shitou, Little Shitou.” (Shitou= Stone)

Wu Dahu nodded as he always did to Song Qinghan, saying, “Little Shitou, that’s a good pet name! Sounds quite easy to get along with.”

Qin Aye stood there holding the child with a face of helplessness. He stared at Little Shitou who was with an adorable face with chubby cheeks. Well, Little Shitou, you should be as tough as a real stone because your two daddies seem to be not that kind of “reliable”, thought Qin Aye.

Outside the house, Yuan Boshu found that Song Qinghan had given birth safely and his son – Yuan Wenxuan – had officially met his Master. He couldn’t stay longer here because he had restarted his restaurant business and been quite busy there. He came inside the room together with Youning to congratulate Wu Dahu and Song Qinghan on their successful delivery, bid farewell to them and then left taking a carriage.

Though Yuan Wenxuan was silent standing there and eyeing his father leaving without words, it could still be seen from his eyes that he was quite nervous for the study far away from home. After all, he was just a ten-year-old kid no matter how he showed his calmness on everything.
