Blood Debt

Jack was processing the information he has learned. "Then what are you?" Jack asked.

"I am what you call a damphyr." Rose said.

"A half vampire half human?" Jake asked. "I thought that was just a myth."

"Well vampires are proud beings and looks at humans as inferior and are below them in the food chain. But some also falls in love." Rose smiled.

"Then you are a child of a human and a vampire?" Jack asked.

"Not quite." Rose said. Jack looked at her confused.

"I was sired by a damphyr. Not just any dampyhr but also a progenitor." Rose explained. "If a vampire sires a human, he transfers all his knowledge into them and that includes his ideals, feelings, and also their powers. Well the sired humans are a little inferior to the sires but I guess you get the picture."

Jack was thinking hard. "Yes, I think I get it. So the sires are much stronger than the sired humans because they are at the top of the pyramid."

"Correct. And there that sires becomes the masters and the sired humans becomes servants. The sired humans are bound with a 'blood oath' from their masters. Once a humans turns he/she automatically has a blood oath." Rose explains.

"Well because my sire is a damphyr that also makes me one. I can walk under the sun unlike original vampires which are nocturnal." Rose smiled.

"But you also drink blood?" Jack asked.

"If the needs arises, yes." Rose answered. "Like I said vampires drink blood to power up. If they get badly injured or feel like dying they just need to drink blood to boost their fast healing abilities. I only drink when I have too. If I can help it then I won't need to drink it. I still want to retain my humanity as much as possible. And I don't kill the human when I drink their blood."

Jack was trying to understand this. "So you're a good vampire?"

Rose laughed. "Your really are a kid." She ruffled his head again.

"Hey cut that out. What do you mean a kid?" Jack said irritated.

"When you grow up you will know. The world isn't just black and white Jack." Rose explained.

Jack didn't understand what Rose meant. His confusion was shown on his face. Rose smiled by his innocence.

'If I can just protect your innocence and just let you be a normal human being.' Rose thought and then sighed.

"Not all creatures are bad. We also have hunters like myself." Rose said.

"You mean vampires?" Jack asked.

"Ahuh. And also witches, werewolves, mermaids and many more." Rose smiled. "When you come of age then I will train you to be one of the best. So you can be proud to carry the Bradford name. I am categorized as SS level by the way."

Jack's eyes sparkled. He was excited to know that he can be one of the best hunters. And to be trained personally by a double S level hunter was a privilege. It's not everyday that you get to be an apprentice of a double S level hunter.

"Well then, that's enough for now. Let's finish this pizza then go straight to bed." Rose said. "Tomorrow I will be driving you to your new school. I will be your legal guardian so why not call me aunt Rose from now on?"

"What? Aunt? No way." Jack took a slice of pizza from the box and took a bite.

"And why not?" Rose asked looking grumpy.

"Well we are not related for one. And you don't look that old to be an aunt really." Jack explained. But his real reason was just because he doesn't want to call Rose an aunt. He doesn't want to become all family feeling with her.

"Really? Well I look rather young for my age." Rose was looking flattered.

"Well how old are you?" Jack asked.

"It's rude to ask a woman about her age. You have to learn that." Rose reprimanded. "But because I'm a vampire, age doesn't matter. So I'll tell you."

Jack looked at Rose waiting for her answer.

"Ahem. Well my physical body is at the mid 30's. But like you said I don't look like it." Rose giggled.

'Looks like she likes compliments.' Jack thought. 'That will be beneficial in the future.'

"But I have been living for more than a century now. 1034 years old to be exact." Rose said with a smile.

"Ohhh... that's rather long." Jack said while biting his pizza.

"Well I am still young for a vampire." Rose said. "Cain is at least a million years now."

Jack choked on his pizza. 'Cough cough' "A million f.u.c.k.i.n.g years?!" He said surprised.

Rose patted Jack's back. "Mind your words boy!"

"Well yeah okay. But a million years?" Jack asked again.

"Yep, he is a progenitor. The older they get the stronger they become. Cain is a progenitor of the 1st rank." Rose explained.

"My sire is a progenitor of the 2nd rank. Progenitors are ranked by birth. My sire's father is of 1st rank. That makes my sire powerful and also me that is below him powerful as well." Rose said. "But they said that damphyrs can match higher ranked progenitors because of the mix of vampire and human blood. Like I said blood can make us powerful."

Jack was processing all of the information. If he wants to beat Cain then he needs to be more powerful. He has made a resolve within himself.
