Blood Emperor's Lazy Doctor [Hiatus]

Chapter 14 - Resigned to fate (Big Edit)

(Point of View swap. Let's get a closer look into Nuyun!)

Prior to meeting Hong Luo, behind a mountain within a wooden, high grassed area. A heavy aura hung in the air which sent the wildlife and insects into hiding. If it weren't for the sounds of the breeze rustling the thick grass, a deafened silence would reign the night.

A thick smell of blood floated on that breeze, heavy and strong. Coating the ground, an eerie mist creeps ever so slightly. With time, the thick cloud became denser and denser, making what was seen within the mist, ethereal, surreal, an illusion that did not belong in the mundane world.

"AHHHHHH!"

CRACK!

The sound of cracking bones, screams signaling their final breath reverberate through the mountain, and they all came from within the mysterious mist, making the illusion seem wrong. In what way? Only the heart can truly tell. All that one can perceive, with sight alone, beyond this mysterious world, are the lands of the underworld. Ready and waiting to swallow you whole if given the slightest chance.

Honestly, mundane should never be used here, for this high grass area resides within one of many divine realm worlds.

This particular one is known as Bogworm. Like its name, this world is known for a giant marsh which resides within the Mind Eating Forest. An extremely dangerous place for those not adept in spiritual prowess. Come in this beautiful land with a weak mind, the spirit beast which reside would sure love to have you as their dinner.

Within this dangerous place, a lone monster is being haunted. In the same area which the ethereal mist resides.

Flattening the tall grass, surrounding a man perched on a boulder, corpses piled in a near perfect circle. Vital detail was missing from these corpses. A lack of red perhaps?

On the other side, hidden within the tall grass, yet also not, living bodies which were hesitating, fearful of the monster up top.

These men were all professionals in their field. Killing was second nature, not at all immoral, or wrong in their eyes. Yet these killers, whom faced many a men, were full of fear. Their hearts pounding, backs long been soaked in cold sweat.

With inhumane speed, one of many, yet few in number, a foolish soul whom disregarded the fear in his gut, rushed forward.

His target?

The monster perched on the rock!

A cold light flashed across the monster's eerie mask.

. . .

Dangling from his palm, a mere sack of meat that's lost its warmth. Behind the mask, his eyes peer with indifference. For him, it matters not that a life was just lost, as if the man clutched in his palm didn't exist.

With a clean side way motion, the corpse is tossed to the ground. The other men who once held life, all lay motionless on the grassy flooring. Their eyes were wide open, not knowing how they died. All they felt before death's kiss, was a sharp pain in their hearts, then darkness.

Dressed in black, blood dripping from the hems, he sat loftily on the peek of the boulder. There were stains of blood on his mask that with time, turned to black, and faded from sight. Such a magically scene, as if the mask was alive, taking nutrient from the life's blood of souls that once were.

This man with a familiar adornment, was the same man that Hong Luo would meet and treat in the woods, not but a day later.

A grunt escapes Nuyun's mouth, veins pulse along his neck, hands, and slightly exposed c.h.e.s.t.

An evil sight, one would think a monster appeared, one whom climbed its way out of hell.

Bones cracking, veins popping, blood that wishes to meet the open air, is swallowed back down. Even he a man who is unfeeling can't help but m.o.a.n in pain.

The feeling of having your bones crushed, re-mended, then crushed again. Blood pooling under skin, boiling at searing tempers. Muscles ripping, organs failing, millions of carnivorous ants, snacking on every corner. Even if you disregard the high never-ending fever and rotten wounds that refuse to heal, the pain alone could kill a man a million times over.

"Lord!"

Swish! A subservient man, cloaked in black, his face revealing a youthful innocence, eyes hard as steal, yet flexible as rubber, appeared.

Yu Han had many things to say. But what ever words they had been, were swallowed down with the appearance of his lord and master.

Up on that boulder, the silhouette of a single lone bear, braving life's cruelty with nothing to show. Nuyun's back looked extremely lonesome in the light of the moon, mist swallowing the ground. The ethereal world seemed to originate from him. As if he was the only one there, with none grant him words.

Yu Han's brows crease with extreme pain. How could my lord suffer as such? How many more centuries must he endure this inhuman pain? He winces at the thought, bowing his head, hiding the fury in his eyes.

Nuyun sat there motionless as if he didn't hear his steward's voice, yet behind that mask, a shadow flashed in his eyes.

Foolish boy. He complained to himself, his inner voice cold and heavy, with a trace of helplessness.

"Return." Cold as ice, magnetically deep, this voice felt as if it had just crawled out of a glacial.

Yet to Yu Han, it felt like a death sentence, not for him, but this lonesome man up high. His lord and master was resolved, but he was not!

"My Lord, don't be rash! This servant doesn't dare believe hope fails to exist! How can there not be a way?"

"Master please, reconsider!"

A light breeze rustled both men's robes.

One was bowing, a resolute gleam in his eyes, begging for reconcile. The other, perched up top, a lonesome air swirling around his frame, his face hidden behind the mask, wooden yet forlorn.

Nuyun lets out a breath.

"Yu Han." This wasn't just simply saying his name, it was an order.

The air chills, Yu Han's voice gets stuck in his throat.

His eyes blazing, that stubborn nature he's known for caused him to bite his bottom lip. How do I convince my lord? He just can't give up! Why would he let those fools get what they want!

Determinate, unsealing his lips, "What of the madam? What is she to do without her son? It would break her heart if you gave in!"

"My lord, you're all she has!"

Nuyun was silent for a time, a feeling of dilation wrapped the mountain, like a solemn oppressive cloak. It seemed those words hit a nerve.

Yu Han knew that he had went too far. But what was he to do? Just sit back and do nothing as his lord and master drops dead? Even if he were to die for his outburst, he would die without regret, knowing he had done all he could.

Nuyun stood up, his head titled back, as if observing the moon as its ethereal glow illuminates his figure.

Then he suddenly vanished!

Before Yu Han could respond, Nuyun had appeared right in front of him, grabbing him by the scruff.

His indifference along with that mask, made it impossible to tell if he had been angered or not.

But Yu Han knew, he had been with his lord and master for many a year. Even though he was indifferent to the point of being emotionless, he still had feelings, its just they were so minuscule, it was difficult to see.

His lord and master, was angered.

But to what extent, Yu Han doesn't dare speculate, for his mind was on the verge of collapse.

He couldn't breathe.

He looked upon the man whom he dedicated his life too. There was no feeling of betrayal in his eyes. He would happily die if his lord and master sent him to the grave.

A curve of his lips, a satisfied smile in his eyes, as he vision blurred.

With a sideways motion of his hand, a rip formed in the air. Nuyun threw Yu Han inside the rip as it closed.

Standing still in the moonlight's glow, Nuyun hunched over.

A red stream poured from the mask, laying its heart b.a.r.e. Maybe this was why, on the mask's white face, two streams of red tears, one going up, the other down, were painted on its surface.

A strange silence was in the air.

Under the mask, Nuyun's eyes flashed, a lightning bolt landed on him, as he vanished from sight.

. . .

Another grassland, looking nothing like one before. There were mountains present, yet these peeks were much smaller in comparison, the grass was also much shorter. At times you could hear insects chirping, and small 'hoot' from afar. In this area, Nuyun reappeared, riding that lightning bolt which landed.

Hunched over, coughing out copious amounts of blood and saliva. He knew such a movement was too much for his body to handle, but so what? He was on a journey to find a grave, so what did it matter?

A man who has already resigned himself to fate, can be quite cruel to themselves, even more so than the so called fate that binds them. This is exactly what Nuyun has continuously done to himself. Despite his body falling apart, time and time again, he disregards the pain.

It's funny how common of a saying, that without pain there is no gain. Come now, this lord wishes to know, what is the gain that I, this lord has received for the trouble, hmm?

He can't help but laugh in spite of himself.

With a glance, he knew that he'd come to the right place.

He had arrived in a lower realm world called Ash. A forbidden land, even to those in the divine ranks. Rumor has it, a sacred beast ascended from its depths, but ultimately failed its tribulation. Due to the unique nature of this beast, when it failed, the after effects caused the heavenly laws to mutate.

Turning this once tranquil land, into a land of death...

Above, the sky growled, dark clouds formed inside the clear mountain air.

He sneered.

Gripping his c.h.e.s.t, he kicks up dirt, running off through the grass.

Behind where he was, multiple strikes of lightning rain down. Shadows rush from the up turned dirt, following after.

They just don't know when to quit. A self depreciated laugh resonated in his gut.

No matter.

Going here and there, from one rock to the next, his movement seemed random, and yet...

"AHHHHHHHH!"

With each slight movement, a scream pierces the silence. This disturbing game of cat and mouse, silenced the chirping insects, and scarred of the 'hooter' in the distance. Until there was only one whom moved through the grass.

. . .

. . . . . . . . .

Landing on a red wooden tree, glancing over the empty field, Nuyun was just about to leave when movement caught his attention.

A hand blade full of murderous intent, slashed right at his head from behind.

Effortlessly he dodged, skillfully grabbing the man by the neck. Yet that one moment, even though effortless was not perfect. The hand blade managed to nick Nuyun's mask. He Squeezed the man's neck tight enough, the bones began to crack.

An evil grin curves on the man's lips.

Perceiving the wrongness of this gesture, Nuyun quickly tosses the man to the side, rushing through the woods.

"BOOM!"

He didn't get too far, slamming into a huge oak tree, knocking him senseless, wishing to send him unconscious. But this was not without raining blood on Nuyun, drenching his robe, and staining his mask.

He hadn't thought that meat sack would self explode. Destroying his cultivation to take out his target. That miscalculation on his part, ended him up with a few bruises, and a small nap against wood for his trouble.

He limply let his limbs sink down. Since it was the last man, he didn't mind letting the darkness take course, forcing him into sleep. And so he did, his eyes shut as the night carried on. The insects continued their song, and that 'hoot' returned in all its glory.

Nuyun knew it was not yet time, a few sands have yet to fall. With that final thought, darkness reigned, along with the night.
