Blood Emperor's Lazy Doctor [Hiatus]

Chapter 28 - Devour Whole

When was it again? When did it start? Oh right, should have been when her life as Mozen began. Her eyes darkened and her heart would turn cold at those memories. The same ones that haunted her dreams, blurring the lines between two different lives...

Mozen...

Hong Luo...

Hadn't a clue how long she was there, but sleeping in a field of undead, salivating to gnaw at your limbs, and devour you whole for sustenance. The mere thought makes her heart drop as a shiver made its way up her spine. Of course tempering through such torment and nightmares, her instincts taut to the limit, would leave behind side effects. Which would be her overly s.e.n.s.i.t.i.v.e temper in the morning.

'Some habits are buried so deep, even with the will to change, impossible is still impossible.'

She inwardly sighed, looking over at the man who was waiting for her to continue. Why are you able to wake me without injury? She hadn't a clue, he was an oddity.

She gave him a gentle smile and proceeded with her tale of the day.

"I couldn't believe I met Mr Bushy Beard again. It was very hard to recognize him under all that fuzz."

He begun placing multiple herbs in her bath water, mixing them well, as if they were the cure to his disp.l.e.a.s.u.r.e.

"Mr Bushy Beard? A man?"

So she 'did' see a man. The smell on her hands and face... what did they do behind his back?! His c.h.e.s.t couldn't help but move up and down as he controlled himself. How dare a male dog place his sent on his rabbit! She was his and his alone. He couldn't stand someone marking what belong to him. He hadn't a clue why he found such disp.l.e.a.s.u.r.e in this. It irritated him to the point of murder. The fire which burned its way through his gut was fit to burst.

If she were to lie...

Hong Luo hadn't a clue of the fire burning its way through Nuyun. Or the beast like eyes that dripped with the intent to kill. She simply laughed as she responded, whirling her finger habitually.

"Not just a man, an OLD man. His beard was all grey and stringy. An old doctor from the palace, least that's what the little girl was boasting about. Ai, the old fellow smelt to high heaven of alcohol, hope he at least doesn't drink while he treats."

If he did, she might give him a beating. She hated irresponsible doctors.

Nuyun looked piercingly at her. She didn't seem to be lying. Her words relieved some of the tension, but he still was not happy. Old man or not, it was still a man. He hadn't completely ruled out any suspicious actions, after all, according to her she had been sleeping most of her time there. His eye darkened.

"Oh! That reminds me, I caused a lot damage to his home, so I'll be working there as a medical assistant."

"Why not pay?"

"My money was with you."

She was quite embarrassed and wanted to quickly speak more to hide it, yet he spoke before she could.

"I'll pay him."

"W-What? But I-"

"I'll pay him!"

He spoke loudly, as he grabbed for her hand. He didn't want her around a male dog. His palm embraced the top of her hand as his long finger wove through her small ones. As if this action would bind her will, he held her tightly, causing a slight pain in her palm.

"Nuyun! I can't pay him now, I already promised. Once spoken herds of demons can't break the oath. Do you expect me to go against my morals for such an insignificant thing?"

He was silent as his gripping strength increased. Insignificant? How dare she! Was he the only one that felt such a need of protection? Why couldn't she understand him? Emotions he'd never felt were rolling like thunder and lightning inside him. His rational mind was clouded as his strength steadily bit in her palm.

The pain in her palm was nothing to Hong Lou as she tried to wrack her brain. Why was he having a tantrum? How was she suppose to quell this over sized child?

She bit on her bottom lip as she let out a sigh. It was up to her to be the m.a.t.u.r.e one yet again, as she reached with her hand, stroking him on the head.

"Please understand Nuyun, this old fellow once saved me. Think of this as me paying him back okay? Ahaha, though- of course- I can't go alone. You know how lazy I am. What am I to do if some crazy patient comes in with a knife. I'll need a bodyguard."

He finally looked up at her, the look in his eyes were wavering. She knew that her words had an effect, so she continued to appease him.

"Who else can be my bodyguard I wonder? Mmmm. You know, I don't really have to thing about it. There's only one person I can trust with my safety."

She smiled at him, the gentle look in her eyes embraced the fire and anger in his own. Slowly his taut nerves relaxed as his grip loosened. He was waiting eagerly for her to continue. He wanted to hear her answer even though his heart already knew.

He hadn't a clue why, but he just knew. His heart seem to yearn for her acknowledgement.

Strange, this feeling was so strange. It bubbled up from his gut, warming the rest of his body as a slight tremble set in.

Hong Luo was inwardly giggling. How could he be so cute. He was like a puppy waiting for a bone. Yet his owner was being cruel and only let him it lick it a few times but not giving it away. Ah! How she wanted to pitch his cheeks.

She opened her month prepared to utter his name, Nuyun swallowed hard with bated breath, and yet...

Poor Nuyun was not going to have his way.

"MY MISTRESSES' TOFU HOW DARE YOU EAT!!!"

A little child flew out of the bead in Hong Luo's forehead, placing himself between the beast and the prey. His hands on his h.i.p.s as he stared down Nuyun, who had taken a step back. Or stared up as he made his way to his feet.

OH! He knew he couldn't trust this damn tofu eater. Little Soul's face was red with fury. He had completely forgotten this man was stronger than himself, but when it came to his mistress, his rationality liked to take vacations.

"Mistress I let you out of my sight for how long and you're already in trouble. Don't worry Little Soul will beat his tushie red and sore! Back off you damn tofu eater, before this mighty one turns you into meat paste for your insolence. I'll have you know I am my mistresses' number one. She doesn't need some damn tofu eater as a bodyguard. This mighty one is sufficient."

"Artifact Spirit?"

"Push, what Artifact Spirit? How dare you compare this mighty one with those lowly dregs. Open your ears, and remember this well, this mighty one is a Guardian Spirit! We pick our own masters, not like like those useless dregs. Humph!"

Enlightened he raised a brow at the arrogance this little fellow had. Artifact Spirits were born from the artifact itself. From years of refinement, the essence coming together and disbursing. Until finally an entity with a mind of its own is born. Where as a guardian spirit, is tailored for its artifact by its creator. Unlike the Artifact Spirit who must follow any who binds themselves to the artifact itself, the Guardian Spirit has the choice to refuse a binding of contracts. Most times, the spirit would put users through a trial to test if they were worthy, hence their arrogance.

Yet, he couldn't understand one thing. Normally they didn't have physical bodies. Even if, they'd only be able to coagulate a small portion for a limited time. This was true for both Artifact and Guardian Spirits. And yet this one was fully solid.

Nuyun's thoughts were correct, normally a spirit attached to an artifact can't physically appear outside. But what makes Little Soul different than the others? The answer is very simple, Hong Luo used her magic fingers and allowed the impossible to happen. She honestly hated leaving him all alone inside her space. Where he'd often ask how the outside felt, what the many smells were, or why the food was tastier out there.

Her heart broke each time. So to rid herself of this heartache she created an item that will allow a spirit to roam freely, with all their senses intact. Although, only a certain distance from their artifact.

Nuyun's interested in this was momentary. Like the wind it had already gone and passed. Currently his mood was sour, he hadn't heard what he wanted to hear, and it was all that spirit's fault.

'You a body guard? Don't make me laugh.'

Before Nuyun could decide on want to do, Hong Luo had enough, her cold and drawled voice came from the direction of the tub.

"Little-Soul-what-do-you-think-you-are-doing?"

The arrogance on Little Soul's face immediately vanished as he stood straight like a rod. Oh no. I'm dead.

"Mis-mis-mis... Mistress Little Soul didn't-"

"Didn't what? Didn't mean to interrupt me while I was speaking?"

Oh he was so dead. Mistress hated being interrupted mid speech. He was sweating a few buckets while Nuyun was shocked. He'd never heard his little rabbit sound so cold. He mused as a smile appeared on his lips.

'So she does get angry.'

He folded his arms, one hand gripping, while the other in a tight fist. He decided to watch with full attention. It was a memorable moment to see a new side of his rabbit. Though much to his disappointment, it didn't last long.

"I'm sorry mistress, I won't do it again.... I"

"No more head rubs for a week."

"NO! Mistress anything but that! Skin me alive, boil me hot and ready! Take me to the farms to shovel manure, I'll even eat pickled plums. You know Little Soul hates pickled plums!"

"Little Soul."

"...okay."

The pouting little child turned into a ball of light and bitterly flew back into the bead.
