Blood Emperor's Lazy Doctor [Hiatus]

Chapter 30 - Good Enough (End of 1st Arc)

Lost within a daydream of the past, Hong Lou hadn't expected the suddenness of his fall.

What have the eyes and ears missed for her to remain confused? Looking down at the man, kneeling respectfully with an expression of heavens end, her brows knitted with clear confusion. Yet to Nuyun, that smallest of actions, caused sweat to pool, dripping down his back. Fully tensed he swallows hard.

"What do you mean by this?" (Luo)

"Luo Luo must you test me? I know my wrong, please don't punish too severely." (Nuyun)

"But..." (Luo)

"Please! I swear to heavens, may lightning strike me down, my honesty is sincere, please have mercy!" (Nuyun)

His wrongs he knows fully, so please he begs, stop with that serious look that threatens to kill. Her eyes full aglow, looking deep within, he has no doubt she could pull his heart from his c.h.e.s.t. Previously the punishment mentioned, he cannot bare! He shall not bare! And if he does b.a.r.e, swear to Buddha he'll die, withered and thirsty.

Knitting his brows for a but a moment, returning to normal soon after. Ai, when did he become so cowardly? He this Divine Emperor would never believe he'd one day beg for leniency below a child which age is but a drop to his own. Alas, though his mind knows this to be, his core and body rebels ever so heavily, beating him with a stick as hard as the god sealer chains.

'And yet, I don't despise this feeling.'

Hong Luo's expression didn't change a bit, yet inwardly her insides were twisting in confusion, her mind rolling like thunder, the lightning which wishes to strike unable to find the perfect spot. What wrong has he committed? Wasn't he upset with me? Little Soul's appearance didn't bother a wit? Were my thoughts too excessive?

Blowing a breath of air out like a sigh, but easily misunderstood as a silent snort.

"Alright, alright. State your wrong, with honestly as heavens mandate, I'll be lenient." (Luo)

Swallowing hard once more, he probes lightly.

"Luo Luo doesn't lie? Truly you'll be light?"

"Would I lie? Words spoken, can't be taken back. Haven't you learned well of my temperament through the days?"

Nodding profusely, "Of course, of course, Luo Luo is the most honest. With words precious as gold she wouldn't dare lie. Luo Luo won't you say one more time for ease?"

"You..." Blinking repeatedly in shock. "When have you learned to speak so much?"

Wasn't he nearly a mute? Back when they first met, even as days past, whose words were more like gold? Almost doubting her ears with the amount of words falling from his lips which were thin and well formed. Fully focused on those lips, thoughts wandering. Never have I seen lips as nice as those, he should use them more, such a waste not to.

"Why wouldn't I speak? Luo Luo is deserving, so holding back would be shameful."

Thinking about it, he himself also can't fathom the reason why. As days past, the time spent with her, the words easily flow unlike in the past, feeling as if opening the lips were a tiresome act. One word, possibly two was all needed to convey the intent. Now, he can't get enough, wishing to spill out all which lain within. Fuzzy was the feeling as what felt like feathers tickling his insides. It wasn't an uncomfortable feeling, mysterious as it is, he quite liked it.

"Ai... as you wish. State your wrong, and I, Hong Luo, will lightly punish, not even a feather could hurt as much, as lenient as that. Satisfied?"

Light shining deep within his eyes, he smiles brightly enough to blind. Hong Luo had to squint in response to this smile. Rolling within her c.h.e.s.t, her heart palpitates. The feeling was reminiscent to her cute Tubby. With paws in the air, begging for hugs, his smile was just as, or possibly even more so than the begging of her Monolithic bear's watery eyes.

'Mother was right. Those who rarely smile, blind those who always do. If only I was proficient in the arts of the brush to paper, I'd save that smile for years to come!'

Speaking of which, wonder if that uncle of mine has found the present left behind? Ai, as curious cat. it matters not.

Dismissing the thought she lightly sighs, yet the breath gets stuck in her throat upon his next word.

"I've injured myself."

With her face red from the logged breath, as if portraying anger, Nuyun stops his own breath awaiting the eruption of Mount Tai.

Forgetting to calm the blood in her face, shocked, she looked closer at him. A thin sheen of sweat coated his skin which was paler then normal, veins along the open clothes bulged slightly, while a clear energy deficiency was present within his tense muscles. Inwardly she complains. Some doctor I am, worrying over apologies and can't see the forest for the trees. If he hadn't misunderstood, would the truth remain until the morrow?!

Taking a breath, calming the blood flow of her face, she leads him to the bed, sitting him down. A warm current enters his body. Reading his pulse with kitted brows, a sigh escapes her lips. Looking up at him in pure dissatisfaction.

"Used another skill which surpassed my warning eh. Do you wish to give me further problems to mend when the main issues are still unresolved? Look at the damage, even I, this well versed doctor, can't do much when the damage surpasses my current prowess. Hey, stop grinning when I'm lecturing a serious matter."

The pouting of her lips cause his grin to become broader, as he began stroking her head.

"En, I know."

Grabbing at his hand, relieving her head of his teasing strokes, her pouting becomes more profound.

"If you know then why don't you listen? Are those nubby bits plastered to your skull not worth an inch?" Releasing her hand from his pulse, she pulled at an ear as her lips pursed. "The defects must surpass the body, digging deep into the spirit, else I'd have found and cured long ago. Or perhaps they're habitual, clinging to the heart, shall I beat the habit black and blue?"

"En, beat me black and blue, I'm willing."

"You... Treat your body with the respect it deserves, not promote further pains. Do you believe this doctor needs a test dummy? I don't need further practice, what I need is sleep. Ai... forget it forget it, I was the one who brought it up.

With her hand back on his wrist, the warmth she willingly gave, wraps like a blanket blocking the wind, and comforting from the nights chilly breath. The diligence which was solely for him, warmed deep within bone and swallowed his heart. Spirit ablaze, with nowhere to go the fire burns at the ice which had eternally perforated his being. It was unknown as to how much ice has been melted, and how much remained, since around her, not a single bit of cold could be felt.

'So unique.'

There was none like her, his little rabbit whom was all his. Like gentle waters of spring mixed with rocks of cotton, dying happy within her arms didn't sound too bad, yet also wasteful. Once dead, the feeling would be gone, but living, indulging could last a lifetime.

With the abation of the warm flow, catching her off guard, he wrapped his arms around her waist and neck, falling to the bed with her.

"Ah! I'm in the process of treating and what do you do? Such playful behavior will cause mistakes!"

Lightly laughing, he takes in the scent of her hair. The sweet smell of herbs wrapped in honey was soothing.

"How can my Luo Luo make mistakes? No doctor can compare to the best."

She lightly sighs in his embrace, her hands propped on his broad c.h.e.s.t.

"Even the best make mistakes. How else will they learn?"

Nuzzling deeper within her hair he asks.

"Have you made a mistake before?"

Startled she drifts back in time. It wasn't clear what she was remembering but the tenseness of her body was clearly felt by Nuyun. Feeling as if he had touched upon what should not be touched, he hugged tighter.

"Luo Luo?"

Pulling herself back, she grips the cloth beneath her fingers.

"Hmm, I have. And I apologize."

Making space between them, she looks up at him.

"I'm sorry Nuyun."

Shocked he looks down at her, waiting for further clarity.

"I'm sorry for not mentioning him."

Widening, his eyes tremble. A knowing smile graces his lips, c.a.r.e.s.sing her head as if to soothe.

"What need is there for an apology."

Taking in a breath, she pursed her lips.

"Even still, a wrong must be addressed. Myairen and mother both taught me this."

"What an odd lesson, even if a wrong is addressed, did they not specify on the conditions?"

"Conditions?"

She looked perplexed, like a rabbit which can't understand why carrots can't be eaten like candy. Gripping at his heart, yearning for closer contact with this rare species which always managed to stir his insides into soup. Placing his forehead to hers, eyes full of gentleness as he speaks evenly.

"Mm. Just like thanks, if one apologies, they identify that person as an outsider. Which hurts more then the acknowledgment."

"Then how am I to address the wrong? I can't NOT admit my faults."

Her obvious sign of curiosity, as if not cautious in the least tickled him into committing more acts.

Reaching for a mile after a gaining an inch, he wouldn't let go of this opportunity to instill more knowledge which was... particularly beneficial.

Shining with mirth that Hong Luo conveniently missed, he spoke.

"Then don't commit a wrong."

She glared him, pinching his cheeks.

"That is not an answer!"

"Haha, of course, of course. Then perhaps, if Luo Luo wishes to admit faults or thanks, then use your actions."

Watching as she pondered the thought, his eyes shine with amus.e.m.e.nt. Seriously this rabbit was too easy to manipulate, often times this would increase his worries. What if someone else discovered this fact, attempt to mold her into what they want? The very thought caused fires to burn within. Flames that hurt instead of a surging thirst, this emotion he clearly knew the name of.

'Anger.'

Using actions instead of words? Such a new idea she hadn't thought of before. Delving deep into her life lessons from her mother, there wasn't any which corresponded to this. Even the lessons Myairen held no weight. Though Myairen was a but a friend of her mother, one she herself saw as a second mother, her lessons she also took to heart.

Surprisingly she found familiarity with a lesson her father once told her. Not just familiar, it was almost the same!

'Daddy you're hurt. Why are you hurt, should Luo'er blow and make it better?'

'Oh my sweet Luo'er treats daddy best.'

Hong Bao leans in, letting his daughter blow on the bruise near his eye.

'Better?'

'En, much better, Luo'er is daddy's miracle medicine! Only Luo'er can make daddy's pains fly away with the wind.'

Giggling Luo'er tilts her head and asks sweetly.

'Daddy how'd you get hurt? Did the squirrels get mad, throwing rocks when you took their nuts again?'

'What? When did daddy ever lose to a bunch of squirrels, daddy only loses to your mother.'

'Oh, so it was mommy that hurt daddy? But why?'

Pouting Hong Bao pokes his daughters nose.

'Luo'er your mother is a little stubborn, just like bull which refuses to conceded. So with this trait how do you think father helps get his way?'

Shaking her head, little Luo hadn't a clue.

'With my actions! Sometimes words will just make her more angry with father. You see this bruise and cut? Daddy spoke a few words and BAM! But with hugs and kisses mother forgave.'

Hugging her fathers neck, Luo'er kisses his cheek then ponders.

'Forgave? Daddy what words did you say for mommy to forgive?'

Sweating and coughing a few times, Hong Bao pats his daughters back, changing the topic.

'It matters not, all is over and done with. Now now, lets go inside before mother bruises both our behinds!'

Smiling over her father's past actions, she nods her head, agreeing with his statement. This actions douses the fire and warms his heart with gentle water. Embracing the rabbit in his arms, smiling within her hair. Yes, this is good enough. This was all he needed and more.

'This warm is all I need.'

Comfortably laying in his embrace, a sudden thought hits her.

'Wait a moment.'

Where did he learn all of this when emotions eluded him? Perhaps does common sense have no connection to emotions? Would knowing not to jump off the bottomless cliff not require the heart's response? Or with such little time, his sense of learning he had already a clear grasp on emotions?

'What a powerful instinct!'

Blowing out the light, both of them cuddling beneath the blankets, the moon shining beneath clouds of fog, barely giving light to the harmonious two which lay underneath worn out sheets. The shadow of the bird embroiled within the window cloth gave sense to a gentle lull, dissipating the loneliness of the night.
