Blood Emperor's Lazy Doctor [Hiatus]

Chapter 32 - A noble thief?

Shining warmly the sun beat down the remaining cold, thawing the short lived iced greens slicked in dew. An unusually nice day compared to the days before, breaking the usual cool spring into warm rays of light mixed with gentle winds.

Chirping loudly, birds enjoyed the crisp morning breeze. Warmth comforting their feathers as they flew through the sky in search for food. Gliding down, softening its arrival, one bird curiously perched upon a tree.

Hopping along a branch, once closer to the main trunk it tilted its head. One peck touched the bark. Silence confused its little brain. Then one peck turned into two and then three. Repeatedly it knocked, over and over, until-

BAM!

Irritably chirping, knocking down its own brambled door, a pebble was thrown out of the hole by an angered squirrel. It's tail puffed, its paws mimicking a boxer as its chirping shrilled adorably.

Despite the cuddly nature, the awe inspiring actions, the bird did not feel them. Startled by the fluff ball much larger than itself, the bird flew off in fear.

Oddly enough, the bird wasn't the only one startled and knocked off-kilter. A shadow that had been sneaking over the Forbearing Bygone gates caught themselves before falling to their face, saving them from swallowing a healthy portion of dirt.

"Haa," Breathing out in what resembled a sigh, the petite shadowed figure dropped, landing safely on the other side.

"When did the gate get fixed?" They murmured aloud in puzzlement.

Reaching out, pushing on the gates which they knew if done before, they'd fall soundly to the ground. Looking at their hand and the stable gate, they pivoted.

Peering left and right, running a hand across each candled pole wrapped in vines, they moved along. Following the overgrown path, each one of their steps were slow, almost mournfully so as they reached the old well.

They stopped. Shoulders drooping, they held tight to the broken gazebo as their head fell. Grasping so tight to the useless beams, the wood beneath their fingers creaked, shacking ever so slightly.

Birds passing through the sky flickered the light as this person was like a statue, refusing to move, unable to move. With a spark of willpower they lift their head, moving a way with a smooth wipe to their face.

Sluggishly moving towards the building, once again they stopped.

A sigh fell along with a thump, a sound caused by their head hitting the courtyard walls. Unclear emotions trembled through their body. Tightening into a fist, with controlled strength, repeatedly they slammed their clenched hand into the wall, over and over.

BAM-BAM-BAM!

"You promised, you promised, you-promised." Trembling as the words fell, their mumbling voice filled with heartache weakened their legs into trembling, threatening them to fall. "How-could-you-lie-to-me..."

Illusionary diamonds trickled down, swiftly vanishing. Tears falling steadily like rain, seeping into the earth.

Whether unaware or not, this person, this emotional bun of knots ignored them, beating the wall over and over.

While their focus was blinded by overwhelming emotions, a shawsh shocked the person out of their frazzled state. Rustling caught their attention much too late as suddenly another shadow pounced on them, wrestling them to the ground in a heap!

"Wasn't it common knowledge, a common courtesy to not disturb those who are sleeping?" Said a voice hoarse with sleep.

Startled into turmoil, the blue which had been swirling around, gathering violently in the intruder's palm, dispersed.

Straddling the intruder, sitting proudly on their stomach was Hong Luo yawning into a chuckled. "My my, I've caught me such a noble thief. Yet, what is this? Has nobility left your heart, grabbing at the vessels as it went? How naughty, are those morality vessels rebelling, preventing the release of the cat clawing your tongue?"

Amused by her own words, Luo clicked her tongue teasingly. "Honestly, thought you of all would know better. Truly, just what has changed? Should only have been a few months, or am I wrong? Ai, this memory of mine is quite horrid."

Widening her eyes in shook, Luo spoke in disbelief. "Unless, oh dear Buddha, don't tell me has the manor run out of funds, becoming so poor they had to fire the etiquette teacher?"

The intruder's mouth gaped, watching Luo as she mournfully shook her head. Their mouth moved like a fish out of water, opening and closing, unable to get a word out as Luo continued her prattle.

"Ay yai yai-! Can't blame them, those guys charge a fortune I bet. Such a waste of money, such a waste."

With an 'aha,' Luo snapped her fingers. "You know what? You don't need them. Just a waste of brain power, I say. After all, what's the point? Already you've learned how to act like a lady, what more is there to learn? Is this the case where the student becomes the teacher? Truly, I don't think I'll ever understand."

"..."

Luo stilled her shaking head, the person below her had mumbled something, catching her attention. Despite how quiet the sound was, she heard the word 'big' even though it never made it to the G.

"Eh?" Looking down in feigned confusion, Luo widely grinned as she reached out, wiping the intruders face. "What's the tears for? You look absolutely pitiful. No, not just pitiful, you look terrible like one of those ghosts chasing children and stealing their candy.

Hey hey, stop that, come on now don't think I have a handkerchief for your snot, I'm too poor for- wha!"

As the words which had tumbled out her mouth had stopped, the tides reversed as the intruder tackled Hong Luo, pushing Luo to her back. Now it was Luo's turn to lay upon the ground, straddled.

Except it was a tad different.

"Big sister!" Crying profusely, wrapped around Luo's waist and neck, was Hong Xiayu, crying loudly and unrestrained. Yes the elder miss of the Hong manor, said to be a block of ice, was like a child who'd been abandoned as she pitifully wept.

"Hey hey, Xiaxia, my gown is not your snot rag, you hear me?" Luo's words just seemed to make Xiayu cry louder, so she opted to stroking her back, sighing in defeat. "I knew eventually you'd show up. Little Xia is one of the few who would, after all. You are the one whom loves me the most, right?"

[Before meeting my darling Little Soul. Isn't that right?] As quick as the words left her mouth, Luo immediately added some words to appease the rage of her puppy before it burst.

Just like she hoped, those words worked wonders.

[Hmph! Of course this Mighty One ranks number one! None can out beat this Mighty One's rank else their tushy will become red and sore!]

[How could I ever doubt you?] Luo sighed in relief, her ears were spared!

As best she could, huddled up in Luo's hair and neck, Xiayu nodded. And yet she frowned soon after. She was not at all satisfied with how loose her arms were, so she tightened her hold.

Which was a little too much for Hong Luo to handle.

"Aug," Luo coughed excessively, patting Xiayu's shoulder as she gasped. "Stop, stop, Xiaxia, can't breath! Loosen-up-please!"

Startled, Xiayu immediately released. She pushed herself up, her tears still flowing down her cheeks, grasping Luo's gown tightly as she apologized. "Big sister Luo I'm sorry, so very sorry. Are you okay?"

"Now that I can breathe, I am." Rubbing her neck to soothe, Luo pushed herself off the ground and poked Xiayu's nose who was still on top of her. "How could you use so much strength, have you forgotten how much stronger you are then me?"

Once again Xiayu apologized, hanging her head in guilt, yet still refusing to release Luo's gown. The sight was heart wrenchingly sweet. Just one look and you knew how close these two are, how much Xiayu cares for and worries over Luo. Of course now the worry sat between the lines of harm and loss.

"Xiaxia no more tears alright? See look, I'm fine, not a hair out of place even. Come take a look and see. I'm sure you'll be surprised, I don't believe I've ever look so good." Luo grabbed both of Xiayu's hands, placing one on her cheek and one on her abdomen.

Xiayu shook at the sensation, "Where are the bones? It's squishy."

Luo laughed at Xiayu's dumbfounded expression. Once again she's faced with another cutey worth poking, teasing their cheeks, enjoying their adorable reactions. This time she did not stop her urge to flick a forehead.

"Of course the bones are beneath the plush, you silly goose. Now since some filling has returned, perhaps I'll finally grow taller. Hey I may even have already grown, stand up let me look."

Xiayu pouted, reluctantly she stood up, helping Luo to her feet, even still she refused to release the gown in her clutches.

Unfortunately, Luo still hadn't gained an inch in height, nearly a full foot smaller than Xiayu, she had to look up. Still she hadn't the need to look too far since her god of war was even taller.

"Too bad, guess I still have a ways to go." Mournfully Luo shook her head.

A thought crossed Xiayu's mind. Releasing Luo's gown, her hands went under Luo's arms and lifted her high into the air.

Dumbfounded by her new elevation, Luo looked down at Xiayu whom had tilted her head. "What are you doing?"

"Imagining a taller Luo." Xiayu stated in a deadpan tone. Nodding as if agreeing with herself, a single word of 'en' came from her mouth, then she set Luo down.

Smiling wryly, Luo flicked a stone at Xiayu, hitting her right between her brows. Xiayu yelped, rubbing her forehead, questioning her elder cousin with her eyes. Why did you hit me?

Luo shook her head in forced amus.e.m.e.nt. "Looking at how you're acting, one would never believe our two year age difference. Though I'm older, with your actions I feel even more childish."

Xiayu tilted her head in confusion. Wrapping her arms around Luo she snuggled into her hair. "Taller doesn't mean older, big sister Luo is perfect sized."

Yes, very much perfect, Xiayu snuggled deeper into Luo's hair, picking her off the ground as she walked off and towards the old well. "If anyone were ever to say different, Naoyu and I will break their bones."

Perhaps they'll think twice if they become short and stubby. Xiayu thought to herself as she placed her cousin on the raised floor of the broken gazebo. Sitting behind her, she curled herself around Luo, resting her chin on Luo's shoulder.

Luo didn't stop her. Xiayu had always been the clingier one. Though Naoyu was also clingy, she'd often relent, allowing Xiayu to cling like a koala while she opted for an arm.

Which reminds her, bringing forth the memory from days before, so Luo asked curiously in concern. "Xiaxia, what's with Little Naonao? I saw her doing -ehem- questionable things with your father."

Xiayu wrinkled her brows. "With father? Did big sister Luo make a mistake? I know nothing about father but she's been sneaking around with third uncle, quite disgustingly so. Yet she says it's for a good reason and not to worry. Though Naoyu's mischievous and quite the prankster, I believe her even though I don't agree with her actions."

Luo hummed in response.

Although on the surface, Hong Xiayu is known as the Elder Miss of the Hong Manor. Formalities would beg to differ as they pointed elsewhere. Older than her by a few minutes, Xiayu's twin Naoyu was the legitimate holder of the title, Elder Miss.

Yet, since the girls have such vast differences in personality, one elegant and reserved, while the other outgoing and exuberant, the manor twisted the facts. Rumors had somehow spread, wrapping Xiayu with profound beauty and skill entering the rank of astounding beyond comparison. Soon all began calling her the elder miss, believing only that title fit her name. Even though the skill and beauty between the sisters were the same, still no one connected such words with Naoyu. Just because of her personality which did not conform to the norms of the so called noble title, Elder Miss.

Luo who was well aware of this of course would not misidentify the two sisters. Those two had saved her many times from hunger, even saved her from the darkness of her mind. If it weren't for the twins constant visits, she'd perhaps had become how Nuyun expected her to be- a twisted child bent on revenge.

Unlike the girls, no one else of the manor had been kind nor saved Luo in any way or form. None left a strong visual impression on her to warrant her remembrance. So, it did not surprise her how'd she'd mistaken her uncles.

Although Luo had been given a second chance at her first life, she'd only been brought back near the end, three days before her actual death. Since this was the case, the memories she went by were very old. After all, she hadn't lived a mere few decades of life as Mozen, but centuries if you could believe it. Hence her memory was fine in some places, but not so good in others.

Sounds of weeping along with hitched breathing released Luo from her thoughts. The light yet surprisingly warm cloth upon her shoulder had become wet.

Luo glanced over and down, straining to look at her cousin who had buried her nose into her hair and neck.

"Big Sister Luo, don't die again, okay?" Wetting Luo's shoulder with tears, Xiayu had begun crying once more.

Helplessly Luo comforted her, regretting her insensitivity, never giving any form of confirmation of life or death to her twin cousins. That wasn't very m.a.t.u.r.e of her. Quite the opposite as her actions were quite irresponsible given her mental age.

"There there, Little Xia, I promise I won't be dying anytime soon, okay? Remember our promise from back then, never would we leave alone but go together, right?" Heavily sighing, Luo leaned back into Xiayu, reaching back to rub her head. "Come now Little Xia, enough of the tears else I'll worry for your health."

Once again her words did the opposite, promoting the tears to become worse as now Luo feared the bath that was to come. Covered in snot and tears- ai quite the combination to be running down your c.h.e.s.t and back.

"Fine fine, I give, I give. Cry as much as you like, but if you fall faint on the ground, know that I'm leaving you there, you hear me? How do you expect me to carry you with my weak nubs of cotton? There's no way I'm evening trying. Once you wake up and found out you've been assaulted by a frog, don't you dare come back and complain."

This time Xiayu laughed. "Big sister Luo's so silly."

Luo joined her with laughter. Nodding her head, very agreeable as she said, "Of course, it's me after all!"

Luo got away from Xiayu's hold, jumping up from the gazebo, running a few steps only to twirl. Shadow boxing the air, her actions mimicked a fight that she was winning, until a hit rang her head like a bell. Slowly and dramatically she fell to the ground clutching her heart, her free hand raised high with a thumbs up.

This was where Xiayu lost it.

Bell-like laughter filled the courtyard, she clutched her stomach tightly as she just couldn't stop. Luo's silliness had broken her into a laughing fit, one that threatened to push her to the ground in a heap.

Surprisingly, this normal moment for the girls would gape many mouths, unhinging them for perhaps hours if not days. This sight would shock all the suitors wishing to gain one smile from the ice queen Hong Xiayu.

Xiayu's smile, which was more rare than purple jade, was like common stone for Luo. After all, Xiayu never acted coldly around her elder cousin, warmth filling every crease of that young and beautiful face.

Shade wrapped the courtyard, the sun had hidden itself beyond clouds, cooling down the heated laughter down below.

"Luo."

Luo, whom was now sitting on the ground, her legs crossed, looked towards Xiayu questionably. "Why did the servants say you died?"

"Because I died." Luo smiled mysteriously.

A strong breeze rustled both girls' hair, furling back the trees, whirling around chaotically, as if it were alive. A faint green aura mix with black went undetected.

Luo continued speaking, her voice eerily calm.

"I died once, lived a whole other life then died again only to come back and live once more. With a powerful spirit even though lacking cultivation, I've come back to settle old scores. This time around, I'll destroy the Hong manor and have my revenge."

Never once did the strong wind calm down. Even becoming worse and more violent as Luo's words, strong yet calm, touched upon a thin line of truth and lies.

[Mistress Mozen have you lost your mind?! Do you realize what you just said?] Little Soul panicked, ready to jump out and shake his mistress' shoulders. Just where had his mistress's mind gone? Ah, Little Soul hadn't a clue, but he was slowly losing his own!

Xiayu stood tall, her face cold and murderous, dripping with blood-l.u.s.t as she popped her knuckles, releasing the air from her joints.

"When and where, I'm ready." Xiayu commanded. Blue aura condensing around her steadily in a stream.

[AH! Mid Condensation Realm! Mistress what have you done?! Even though with your spiritual energy remaining the same, your mortal body can't handle the pressure from her!] Little Soul attempted to leave the space, but Luo had closed it off stopping all his tries.

Completely ignorant of the danger before her, Luo stood tall and laughed. "What if I'm ready now?"

Little Soul nearly lost it with those words, yet that was nothing compared to the words Hong Xiayu spoke next. His poor little tushie fell to the ground in indignation, as he wished to scream.

Xiayu furrowed her brows, "That's a problem then," The aura dissipated. "Naoyu still needs time. Big Sister Luo, can we destroy Hong Manor another time?"

Luo burst into laughter. Now it was her turn to clutch her gut, stopping herself from falling over. "Oh Xiaxia you're too much. Goodness me. My stomach, ouch. Xiaxia you're way too gullible, I was merely joking."

Of course only half her words were mere empty air. She'd never waste energy upon revenge, especially when the only victim was her. Now if Hong Manor were to touch upon her extremely low bottom line, one she doubts could be touched at all by them, then of course, all bets were off.

Xiayu blinked repeatedly, tilting her head in thought, she felt that her cousin's words were wrong yet also not. Knitting her brows as she contemplated, no matter how she thought about it, she felt the words should be correct, but still.

Luo playfully pushed Xiayu, banishing her thoughts from her mind. Luo did not want her cousin to think too deeply about her words. Not because of fear but because she'd merely used the truth as a joke.

Yes, Hong Luo did not care a wit whether or not the truth of her body was known. If she were made into a witch, cursed for her position she had no say over, she'd merely step back into the lifestyle of Mozen.

Although she can't say whether or not she'd be happy, least it was an option which was viably.
