Blood Emperor's Lazy Doctor [Hiatus]

Chapter 34 - Eight elemental seeds, a strange connection.

Luo sat in her space, at the table usually hidden in the floor of the pavilion, glowering at the seeds in front of her.

'Just what am I supposed to do with these?'

Sitting in a row on the sandalwood table were the eight colorful seeds which had survived the explosion.

Red, the seed of fire.

Blue, the seed of water.

Brown, the seed of stone.

Green, the seed of Wind.

White, the seed of Ice.

Yellow, the seed of lightning.

Purple, the seed of darkness.

Clear, the seed of souls.

As foretold by the true dragons, these seeds were birthed from the elements themselves. Grown into eight mighty trees which are stronger then any vein of the earth. Merely sitting beneath one of these trees, a day's cultivation would amount to a month from a mere vein.

Veins themselves may be containers of the land's essence energy, but these trees are different. Condensed to the extreme, the essence energy contained even in the air surrounding these trees, can give birth to heavenly treasures.

Although these seeds themselves are heavenly treasures, those of herbalists, alchemists, and any cultivators would die to snatch, to this lazy doctor they're just tea and food enhancers.

Yes, they are spices. Extremely expensive and rare spices.

"..." Let's give the poor divine community a moment to clean up the angry blood they just spewed. Those poor immortals, my they rest in peace.

Ai, the great doctor has never looked at herbs the way those in the divine worlds do. Not that she doesn't know the value of such items, but she rarely had any use for them.

As a doctor, surprisingly her reliance on herbs is low. This is not because she herself is a terrible, terrible alchemist who refuses to explore the profession outside the starter phase. No, this is because Mozen is an unconventional doctor. Nothing at all to do with her lack of motivation.

Self taught for most her life, Mozen's approach on the healing arts had been called a blasphemy in the medical community. Forgoing the use of foreign herbs or pills, using only the mental and essence as tools, had been seen as fraudulent methods.

Even with her name known across the world, still that fraudulent accusation was there.

Admittedly when she had taken her first step upon the common route, many questions had been answered, much had been improved upon. But still her methods did not deviate.

But seeing as how her alchemy is less than appropriate, her current predicament in what to do with these seeds is as followed.

Clueless and stumped.

'Really, just what am I supposed to do with these things, play jacks?' She truly hadn't the faintest idea. 'Regardless, somehow, I believe these eight seeds are the answer I've been looking for. It's just currently I'm incapable of finding it'

So as usual Luo sent her mind into her dantian and observed, touching each seed individually. All this while, throughout the time she'd become aware of the problem, this is all she's done. Observe and record. There really isn't much else she could do.

If only she weren't the patient. Doctors treating themselves never go well. Problems are misleading. Symptoms are miss identified. Pain is overlooked.

As usual the dantian was silent. Too quiet and too still for any normal dantian. Even the color of the core was unusual.

It was black.

Not just the common black which reflects light but dark enough to be its own black hole.

But once inside, a white void, an empty world exists.

Mozen's own dantian next to this strange existence, is a night and day comparison.

"Still nothing. Even though each time I touch a seed and colors enter this white world. If they vanish so soon after, how am I to discover where in lies the problem and which direction the solution is guiding me to? Just what are these mysteries?"

Although these questions remain unanswered, the longer it takes to find the needle hidden in the hay sack, the more she wants to know. Curiosity had fully been hooked, the line merely resting within the water, waiting for the fish to pull. And her, this fisher, did not make a sound as expectation simmered down, dulling her expression into a statue.

"I have time. More than enough time."

Luckily, she was patient. Watching the water boil never irked her in the least. Throwing the stone down the bottomless shaft hadn't turned her hair grey, but enlightened the flames of interest instead.

Time's on her side, not a thing was urging her to speed up the process.

"Ah. That's not good. Curse my loose tongue." She knocked on the wooden table, banishing bad karma before it's invited in.

"Can't give the heaven's another chance to mess with me."

"Mistress." Little Soul called from across the table, poking the seed of souls. He'd just arrived in time to witness his mistress's eccentricities, listening to her mumble to herself.

"Mmm." She hummed in response. "Has my darling Little Soul finished with the tower?"

"Of course" His eyes brightened, nodding happily. "Little Soul even cleaned out the cobwebs and chased away the stray fairies."

"Oh." Hadn't expected some fairies to make their way into the space. "Thought I'd sent those little critters away weeks before my death. Not surprised some strays managed to stay behind. Forever the mischievous bunch, aren't they."

A chuckle escaped her mouth at the sight of Little Soul pouting.

"What, are they bullying you again? Want me to step in," she poked Luo Soul's puffy cheek, grinning wider and wider. "I can lock them in the woods until they compromise, like last time."

"No!!!" Little Soul exclaimed. "Mistress if you do that, what will Little Soul do if they plan behind my back. Little Soul doesn't want to have his hair set on fire again!"

"Ahahaha!" Luo burst out laughing, but quickly settled down at the sight of her aggrieved little one. "Okay, okay, mistress won't cause any problems for my darling Little Soul. Of course I know you're big enough and strong enough to settle your own bullies, right?"

"OF COURSE!!!" He puffed out his c.h.e.s.t threateningly... in a very adorable way. "Leave it to this mighty one! Little Soul will show them what for!"

"Of course, of course. Little Soul can do anything." She clapped her hands in encouragement. "I'll leave you to it, while your mistress will go look through the tower."

As she put away the seeds, she paused with a sigh. "Or at least I was going to. Looks like it's put off till later."

She vanished from the space, opening an eye towards the old man whom had just walked into the room.

Walking up from a wonderful dream, one surrounded by streams of wine and lovely puffs of herbal smoke, Doctor Wu's smile couldn't be any wider. Even those thin brows disappeared into his hair line with eyes curved. Something good was bound to happen today. After all, good dreams related to good news nearly ninety percent of the time, at least for him.

"Yu Shi, this old man wonders, has the medical field produced any heavenly herbs? This old man's bones feel itchy. A warm wind must have blown in, henceforth wrapping this old man's luck. It's fit to burst I dare say!"

He walked passed a divider, his posture straight, his stride bound with energy.

"Mmm?" When he turned the corner, he paused. His maid looked as if she'd seen a ghost. Not only that, the ghost had petrified her, leaving behind quite the amusing statue.

"What is wrong?" He waved his hand in front of her, not catching her attention at all. Looking as if she'd ate a lemon whole, the sight was quite painful despite his amus.e.m.e.nt.

"Yu Shi?" He sighed at her lack of response.

Looking beyond her, he pulled at his beard in thought. He taps her shoulder, a green aura covers his hand, then vanishes.

With a shake of his head he flicked young Yu Shi's forehead.

"Ah!" Yu Shi yelped in surprise. Clasping her heart she pouted. "Doctor Wu don't scare this one like that. This one nearly lost her heart with fright!"

Since witnessing the lovely child transform into a listless demon, Yu Shi's soul had been trying its best to re-enter her body. Thanks to Doctor Wu, he startled her back into one entity.

"Yes yes, what a tragedy. And this old man nearly lost his hearing due to your yelling." He rubbed his back and mourned his ringing ears, hunching over in exaggeration.

"What is this old man to do when his maid speeds up his aging. Ai such a tragedy." Tears slipped from his lashes and down into his beard. "The years flashing before my eyes, the poor forgotten wine never tasted has filled these old bones with much regret."

"Master!?" She was shocked, her master looked to have aged before her eyes. "Oh no master, don't die! Yu Shi has sinned! Yu Shi should be punished. What should Yu Shi do?!"

The poor maid was once again frightened. Looking back and forth, not knowing where to place her trembling hands, quite like a startled quail.

"Ah, my darling, sweet little maid, this old man's light of pride, how could I dare punish you?" He wiped at his eyes, quelling Yu Shi's worries.

But then started coughing and the startled quail returned.

"Master!" She jumped in her skin. "Oh no. This is bad, no master, no! Yu Shi deserves punishment! Forgo kindness and hit Yu Shi for her wrongs! Yu Shi is bad!"

"Ai, what is this old man to do if you beg so pitifully?" More coughing ensued while he grabbed his maid for support. "This old man only wishes to tend to his patients, sleep well, drink his wine, and live a peaceful life. But here you are tempting the winds for punishment when this old man can not bear to lift a hand."

"Forgive me master." Tears misted over her eyes as determination pushed them down. "Don't fret master, Yu Shi knows what to do. Yu Shi will close up for today and let master rest. Master please leave everything to Yu Shi!"

"Darling Yu Shi, must you go so far?" He reached up to her cheek lovingly, just like a doting grandfather. "This old man still has business to attend to, this old man cannot rest until death knocks on the door and pushes for payment. But... ai."

He sat down wearily, hanging his head low. "This old man will persevere and attend to a few out patients."

"Must you master? Today is not a good day, master you're so tired you should just rest!"

She shrunk at her master's shaking head and compromised. "What master says goes. Yu Shi will close up but you must take care of yourself, can you do that for me master?"

"With master's new assistant, what will master want for?" He looked up, smiling beneath his beard, giving her a reassuring nod.

Yu Shi nodded reluctantly then she ran outside, stealing a glance at Hong Luo who was yawning before skittering off.

"Ai," he released a breath. Losing his weariness, he stood tall, whipping the creases from his clothes. It was as if the pitiful old man from before was not him at all.

"Little one, this old man said you could tease his maid, but doesn't remember stating whether or not you could scare her. Despite her blunt personality, she's quite harmless. So take it easy on her."

"Mmm," Luo hummed in response, not at surprised of his knowledge, noticing it was her who had upset the little girl.

Using spirit energy to peek inside one's memories wasn't too hard, but it also was dangerous. Unlike the devil clans blood art which only sacrifice is blood, a spiritual sweep of the mind gains the risk of harming the soul.

'This old man. Even I refuse to use such methods despite my ability to do so without harm. Is he really a doctor?'

"So." She scrutinized the old man, a strange feeling had filled her gut watching him tease his maid. But despite her attempt to catch it, the feeling vanished as quickly as it came. "So when do we leave?"

"Now." He chuckled.
