Chapter 94 - An Unwelcome Guest

She was the noblewoman I met at the dress shop, who I didn’t know the name of. Although her intentions for opposing were unknown, things turned out well again thanks to her.

‘I really think we have similar personalities.’ I thought about her favorable impression before speaking. “It’s as the two of them said. I’m simply thrilled to have been invited to this place.” At my euphemistic refusal, Rose gazed at me with a disappointed expression.

“But…” she began. Worried that I may have hurt her feelings, I decided to show my gratitude.

“Thank you for being considerate towards my boyfriend. However, since he used to live in the countryside, he is not used to these kinds of meetings,” I explained.

“Oh, is that so?”

“Yes, for that reason, I think it would be best for him to go rest in the carriage, right?” I glanced at Max, but he was glaring at me with an unsatisfied look. ‘Did this man get triggered by something again? What’s wrong with him?’ I was doing my best to hint at Max who was acting like a rebellious child when the lady who I didn’t know the name of spoke again.

“Well, since he’s Lady Floyen’s partner and there are plenty of empty rooms… I’ll give him a place to stay while he waits.” At her kindness, I was finally able to figure out who she was.

“Thank you, Lady Terence,” I said.

“Don’t mention it,” she answered with a blank face. Her cool personality only made me like her even more.

Recalling what just happened, Veronica scrunched her face. ‘What’s the big deal about a guy with a decent appearance that it’s making everyone hint at me?’ She didn’t want to give a man with an unclear status a room, but there was no helping it. She was afraid Lady Floyen would get angry if she didn’t do so.

‘He’s just a petty commoner. How stupid,’ she thought. However, when she thought about Max’s appearance, Veronica could feel her face getting hot. She hurriedly looked towards Mikhail. Even though he looked a little fatigued, that only served to highlight his beautiful features. ‘As I thought, he’s not as good-looking as Sir Mikhail, but…’ Veronica’s eyes narrowed when she saw the person Mikhail was staring at. ‘As expected, she’s making Sir Mikhail uncomfortable.’

At that moment, she heard a gentle voice. “Lady Veronica, the tea smells wonderful.” Mikhail smiled at her.

Veronica replied with a blush, “Oh, I’m glad you like it.”

Mikhail, who was smiling at Veronica, glanced over at Jubelian for a reaction. ‘She must be envying Veronica by now, right?’ Sure enough, he could see Jubelian sighing while looking at them. The corners of Mikhail’s mouth raised at the sight. ‘I knew it. No matter how hard you try, you can’t escape from my grasp.’

I unconsciously let out a sigh when I saw Lady Terence blushing. ‘Out of all people, why did she end up liking Mikhail?’ I wanted to stop her from falling into Mikhail’s evil influence. Since he was destined to love the princess, he was not being genuine towards her. In the end, the only thing that would be left for Lady Terence was destruction. ‘Yes, just like what happened to Jubelian in the original novel.’ As I sympathized with the woman who was following in my past self’s footsteps, I took a sip of tea and almost frowned.

‘Um, I don’t think this tea was brewed correctly…’ From the scent and color, I could tell it was white tea, but it had become slightly bitter from the use of hot water. I thought about saying something but decided to keep my mouth shut. ‘I will only hurt her feelings if I say something.’ Just as I had in the past, I knew she wouldn’t listen to what others say to her. The only thing left for me to do now was to pray for her. ‘Please do not walk on the path to becoming a villainess.’ I wished for a safe breakup between her and Mikhail as I drank the bitter tea.

“You can wait here,” the servant said. Max had been led to another drawing room in the count’s house. ‘To ask a member of the royal family to stay in such a shabby place…’ Max silently complained, then tried to stop himself when he realized the room was filled with luxurious furniture and interior accessories. However, when he recalled Mikhail, who had annoyed him from the start, he became furious.

“Long time no see, Jubelian,” Mikhail had said. Contrary to the rumors which stated that Mikhail considered Jubelian a bothersome existence, his eyes that stared at her were stained with immense obsession. When that gaze reached Max, it turned cold. It was as if he was warning him to stay away from what was his.

‘How dare he look at me like that.’ Max’s eyes filled with anger as he recalled what Fresia had said.

“I heard that Lady Floyen really liked Sir Mikhail. People say that she chased him around without caring about her reputation… In some ways, it’s fortunate that they separated.”

Max started pacing back and forth in the room as he was filled with a sudden surge of irritation and restlessness. At that moment, a window came into his line of sight. It looked large enough for a person to use to enter and exit the room.

“Don’t cause any trouble and wait there quietly, okay?” Max remembered what Jubelian had whispered to him, but ignored her words and opened the window.

‘I can’t just sit here and do nothing.’
