Divine Emperor of Death

2761 A Different Habitat

Death Dragon didn't even nod at the people greeting him, continuing to walk ahead as he gestured at Davis once more.

However, Davis was not overwhelmed by this gesture as he felt emboldened in this place. If a slave of his master owned this place as the Ghost King or the Ghost Emperor was supposed to be the one who ran things here, then he was also practically the owner of this place as he was that Ghost King's junior master.

'Does this has something to do with how the legacy of the Ghost Tear Hall works? People who practice Death Laws may have special status...'

Davis imagined as he crossed the street together with his people and Death Dragon.

The vast underworld was now entering into its main thoroughfare, where business was conducted as shops sprawled the street. From armaments to poisons, almost everything was placed for display, and propping these stores were clerks who looked like assassins as they also wore masks, some appearing to have lost their arms and some their legs or even their bodies themselves as only the head remained in front of the shop.

"..."

Even if Mingzhi and the others wanted to maintain their composure, they were completely taken aback by the things they saw here, never imagining that there would be a form of order in this place, not even in their wild imaginations as they expected this place to be the face of desolation and unsociableness.

Even Schleya looked no different, appearing astonished by this scene as this was not how assassins behaved in her mind. Not even the streets of the wicked path would be this tidy, much less orderly.

However, they received their answer.

"Unless a Shadow Battle is invoked, any type of aggression here is forbidden in order to respect the ancestral statue placed upon here."

In the square leading to the palace, there was a grand statue of a black-robed man. His features were obscure, but he wore a dark gray robe and held a scythe in his grasp, its crescent blade curving behind him.

"This underground city and also many other hideouts like this is where the families of assassins are nurtured. However, don't be mistaken. The process to become an assassin is grueling and couldn't be withstood by most people, who then remain at the bottom and live their lives as slaves or servants, but even these two classes are not to be touched or harmed here other than by their masters."

Death Dragon explained.

Davis's brows twitched.

Even in the cities he had visited before, slaves were allowed to be kept, but unlike those normal cities, the slaves here were protected by the rules, which made him feel rather strange, making him wonder who had the moralistic high ground.

After all, slaves could be mercilessly attacked and played with in normal cities, and it was up to the slave's master to stop them or protect whatever little rights they had been given.

Regardless, he didn't comment on this matter and followed Death Dragon.

Soon enough, they reached the tall palace that reached the cave's ceiling, where light emanated from.

The palace appeared to be built on an underground lake surrounded by pillars made out of a stone carved with all sorts of patterns that supported it; likewise, many rooms could be seen scattered around. These rooms did not appear to lead anywhere but rather concealed several corridors.

However, they didn't step into these rooms but headed in a straight path once entering the building. Its architecture appeared rather ancient, making them feel as though they had entered a treasure site, except there were a lot of assassins moving to and fro, minding their own business, and some leaning on pillars while interacting with each other.

They greeted Death Dragon upon them passing by before they finally arrived at a lounge-like area where there was a front desk reception housed by a beautiful, pink-eyed lady acting as a receptionist.

She wore a semi-transparent purple veil and was clad in an exquisite black robe, appearing seductive with her buxom figure. She had her arms crossed over, her eyes fluttering as she finally noticed them.

"Greetings, Ghost King. Can I do anything for you?~"

Death Dragon nodded lightly before gesturing towards Davis.

"This here is my junior master, Dead End. Take care of him properly."

"Oh my, master's disciple?"

The receptionist's eyes shot wide, appearing shocked as she seemed to have heard about him. It was as though she was laying her eyes on an Anarchic Divergent for the first time, causing her gaze to flicker before a wide smile emerged on her face.

"Greetings, junior master. My name is Moonshade, and I take Young Master Deathseeker as my master."

"So you're also his slave?"

"No, I'm Young Master Deathseeker's woman."

"I see."

Davis blinked, not expecting that kind of answer. Didn't Deathseeker tell him to abandon or use his women so that he could concentrate on cultivation?

What kind of double standards are these?

However, he felt that it was unknown if the other party was okay with being used, which made it all the more convoluting to even think about it.

"What are the most difficult assassination missions available for me to challenge at my level?"

Davis got straight to the point, causing Moonshade to nod her head as she took out a few jade slips from her spatial ring. She presented it to Davis with the utmost respect as she bowed her head, causing Davis to wave his finger and pull them out from her grasp as they floated towards him.

After obtaining the jade slips, Davis went through them.

However, the targets were all at Late Immortal Stage, which didn't interest him one bit.

He waved his hand and returned them back, "Looks like you don't know my true identity. That's fine. Give me missions that are at Immortal King difficulty, preferably Mid Immortal King Grade."

"...!"

Moonshade became shocked. Even if she was blind, she could tell the other party wasn't an Immortal King, so for him to ask for a difficult mission that was two grades higher than what she gave, wasn't that courting death?

She looked at Death Dragon for help but, to her shock, only saw him nodding his head.
