The Year 1494, 6 Years Before Execution of Gol D Roger,

Somewhere in Grandline (Paradise)

On a certain island, a pirate ship docked a few days ago to resupply and prepare for their voyage to the New World. While this is going on, another ship approaches the island as this ship was heavily damaged and has a tattered Jolly Roger of a red skull with coral reef crown and gold triangle in the background. With the presence of Jolly Roger on the ship, it was clear that this ship belongs to another faction of pirates.

Standing on top of the ship's mass, a certain young man around the age of 15 and wearing a black military uniform looked through the telescope as he finally found the ship he was looking for for the past three months.

'I finally found you, Roger Pirates. If the stories from the New World are correct, Captain Roger is a powerful pirate with personal rivalry with Vice Admiral Garp from the Navy.' Young Douglas Bullet thought to himself and jumped from the top of the ship's mass which he landed safely and prepared for docking of his ship.

When the ship finally docked, Bullet got off from his ship and looked around to see if there was anyone from Roger Pirates. Soon, two teenagers got his attention as one of them is wearing a straw hat and the other one has a large red nose as if he is wearing a clown nose.

"Hey! You two, do you know where I can find a pirate called Roger?" Bullet asked two young men (Both age 15) as he approached them and pointed his finger towards Oro Jackson, the Gol D Roger's ship.

"Captain Roger? Why are you looking for our captain? He should be at the bar with others." Young Shanks said without any concern while his friend, young Buggy pulled out his knives slowly as he realized that the young man they are talking to is another pirate.

"Damn it, Shanks, don't you see he is a pirate? He must be here to scout ahead to ambush us later" Buggy scorn Shanks due to his friend's lack of awareness and loose lips as he just revealed the location of their captain to a total stranger.

"So, you guys are members of Roger Pirates," With that, Bullet attacks two young pirate apprentices and plants their heads on the pavement. The attack was sudden and fast that Shanks and Buggy weren't able to respond in time but they were tough enough to survive the Bullet's attack and remain conscious.

"I only need one of you to take me to your captain," Bullet then kicked Buggy to knock him on to one of the buildings near the port. Seeing this, Shanks tried to fight back but it was useless as Bullet overpower him and push Shanks's head back to the ground. As Bullet restrains Shanks to the ground three men approach them with high speed which Bullet quickly senses new enemies.

Turning around, Bullet saw three middle-aged men in front of him. From the left, a long black-haired man wearing a blue shirt and armed with twin axes. On the right, a blonde hair man wearing purple clothes and has a long sword in his hand. Finally, the man in the middle is wearing classic pirate clothes with a long captain's coat and hat. These three men are the monster trio of the Roger Pirates, Scopper Gaban, Silvers Rayleigh the first mate of the Roger Pirates and Gol D Roger the captain of the Roger Pirates.

"Hey, is this how you greet people when you meet them? How about I teach you a lesson?" Gaban said to Bullet as he tossed a toothpick to the side while Rayleigh and Roger looked pissed as their two apprentices were beaten by the enemy.

"Rayleigh, Gaban. Take care of Shanks and Buggy while I teach this kid a lesson." Roger said to his two friends as he took off his coat, hat and his saber from his belt.

Receiving the order from their captain, Gaban and Rayleigh step aside and disappear from Bullet's vision. Immediately, Bullet realized that the one called Shanks is no longer in his hand and the kid with a red nose disappeared as well. Turning his head back to Roger, Bullet saw two men each holding two pirate apprentices and walking away.

"Hey captain, we will take care of these two while you have fun. Just don't destroy much since we will end up paying for the damages." Rayleigh said to his captain which made Roger smile and start to crack his knuckles and neck.

"Oh, don't worry about that Rayleigh. This will be a quick fight," Roger ensures his first mate to which Gaban laughs as he knows Roger tends to overachieve when it comes to property damage during fights.

With two men gone, Bullet paid full attention to Roger as he could sense the powerful will and strength from the opponent. As two pirates prepare themselves before the fight begins, Roger asks Bullet.

"Are you here for my head or come to pick a fight with my crew?" A serious tone of voice came from Roger which made Bullet confirm his opinion on Roger.

"I'm here to find out if you are stronger than me. I never lost a fight in my life and I was told by my other pirates you are worthy of an opponent. So yes, I'm here for your head." Bullet said to Roger which made Roger gin with dangerous nature within it.

"Never lost? Well, there is a first for everything. Let me teach you a lesson on despair and loss as I beat a sense into you," With that remark, Roger charged ahead towards Bullet as Bullet did the same. When they clashed, they created a shockwave and shook the building around them as Roger pummeled Bullet with powerful punches. Bullet for the first time, feeling the pressure from the opponent, decided to push back to which his fist and roger's met.

This fight continued for another 10 minutes until Bullet lost his consciousness after Roger kicked him in the face with a mix of Armament Haki. For the first time in his life, Douglas Bullet lost in a fight and experienced something new, the rush of challenge which fueled him into later joining Roger Pirates so he can continue to challenge Gol D Roger.

Battle of Edd War,

"Captain Roger! Your life comes first, right? Just this once, we should just listen to what the Gold Lion says!" Buggy begs his captain to reason with rival pirates as Shanks and Doctor Crocus remind Buggy it was pointless to talk Roger out of the fight.

Gold Lion Shiki gave Roger a chance to join his pirate crew and his plan to destroy the Navy and World Government, ultimately conquering the entire world as Roger became his right-hand man.

"I have no interest in conquering anything, Shiki! If you can't do as you please, there's no point in being a pirate, is there? No matter how you try to pressure me, Gold Lion! I refuse your offer!" Captain Roger smiled and refused the offer as it wasn't his personality to just simply join some world conquest. The battle between Roger Pirates and Gold Lion Pirates began as the weather turned into a harsh storm.

Meanwhile, Bullet, now a member of Roger Pirates, armed himself with multiple canons using his Clank Clank fruit as he turned his two arms into a Gatling gun. Ever since he joined Roger and his crew, Bullet learned to respect Roger and believe that he will one day become Roger's successor. But to achieve this, Bullet needs to defeat his captain and prove to everyone that he is strong enough to be a worthy successor.

"Kahaha, enough talking and more fighting! Shiki! You didn't bring enough sh.i.p.s to sink us!" Bullet fired his weapons and sank two sh.i.p.s at once. Soon, the battle didn't last since the storm divided the two pirates and sank half of the Shiki's fleet in the end. This experience made Bullet seek much more powerful pirates in the future as he started to find more pirate rivals to Captain Roger.

The Year 1496, Somewhere in the New World,

Fourth Day After Fighting Whitebeard Pirates,

"What do you mean Captain has incurable sickness? He fought Whitebeard yesterday and he looks fine to me," Bullet yelled with rage after learning Roger's secret. This revelation made Bullet quick to anger as Gaban held Bullet while Crocus explained more detail on Roger's illness.

"There is no cure to heal our captain. This is why he decided to make the last voyage to find the last island and accomplish his dream." Crocus finishes his explanation and lights a cigarette while everyone in the room remains silent.

"This is bullshit! I know Captain Roger and he can't just die from some unknown disease." Bullet once again expresses his anger and frustration but suddenly Roger interrupts the meeting as he enters the lower deck with a new crew member, Oden.

"Don't worry Douglas, I won't die so soon until we find the last island. Who knows, maybe we will find the cure to my sickness before we reach there," Roger assured everyone jokingly which made Bullet more frustrated.

Unable to process this, Bullet left the lower deck as he now had limited time to challenge his captain. Until now, Bullet couldn't defeat Roger, not even once. With this new information, Bullet doesn't have much time as Roger will eventually die from the illness.

'Damn it, Roger. You can't just die without losing to me at least once. At my current state, I am not strong enough to beat him. I feel like something is holding me back from achieving my goal.' Bullet thought to himself and started to doubt his chance of breathing Roger. This also gave Bullet an idea that something is holding him back as he felt he isn't getting any stronger as he continues to lose against roger.

The Year 1497, Certain Island in the New World,

"Roger! This will be my last challenge against you. If I lose to you today I will leave the pirate crew as my loyalty to you and everyone is holding me from doing what must be done to achieve my goal!" Bullet declares his ultimatum to Gol D Roger as everyone watches this from the ship.

"Oh man, looks like Bullet is going to fight captain again," Gaban said to himself as he lights cigarettes.

"Quick Buggy, you are going to miss the fight," Shanks called out Buggy but the young apprentice refuses to get close to the other side of the ship.

"No! Last time this happened I almost died from the fragment of rock when Bullet threw half of the town at the captain!" Buggy said to Shanks while wearing full armor and held a buckler shield with both of his hands.

Meanwhile, Rayleigh and Oden watch Bullet standing in front of the mountain of weapons he collected over the years from the enemies.

"... Oden, 5 thousand berries on Roger." Rayleigh placed his bet as Oden objects to Rayleigh.

"Hey, you always put your money on Roger. What about Bullet? I think he has a chance this time." Oden said to Rayleigh to which the first mate of the Roger Pirates replied back.

"Bullet? Na, Roger is going to wipe the floor with him. Look at the sky, Oden. The dark clouds are gathering and animals are fleeing." Rayleigh spoke to Oden as both men looked up to see the sun was no longer visible.

Soon, Roger got off from his ship and stood in front of his challenger as he held his saber already imbued with Haki.

"So, you finally decided to make this personal at last. Douglas Bullet! I accept your challenge and will fight you without holding back, I advise you to do the same as well," Roger said to Bullet and gave a serious smile to show he is taking this duel differently compared to the previous ones.

"This time will be different Roger, I have enough weapons with me to fight you in full power. Also, I have this with me to surpass you!" After saying that, Bullet unleashes his newly founded Haki which he kept secret from everyone else for almost half a year.

The devastating force of Conqueror's Haki generated from the Bullet which could be seen as dark purple. When Bullet's Conqueror's Haki was about to reach Roger, he used his own Conqueror's Haki to counter Bullet's. The much bigger and powerful Haki in red/dark blue color clashes against Bullet's to which it overpowers Bullet's will.

The two Conqueror's Haki eventually cancel each other but from the spectator's point of view, the victor of Conqueror's Haki fight was Roger.

"That was a big surprise, Bullet. I should have known you would have woken Conqueror's Haki. I could give you few pointers after this fight if you want," Roger congratulated Bullet with a revelation of another cremate having Conqueror's Haki.

"Don't go friendly with me, Roger. this fight is only just beginning as I still have my devil fruit and weapons to back me up." Ripping his shirt, Bullet then used his devil fruit power to absorb the mountain of weapons behind him as he constructed a powerful mechanical exoskeleton and mixed it with his own Haki.

"You are depending on your devil fruit too much, Bullet. One day you might surpass me but it won't be today!" Roger unleashes his fearsome swordsmanship and sends a powerful slash air attack at Bullet.

Believing his strength and Haki are of equal level to Captain Roger, Bullet made a defensive stance with two robotic arms to shield himself. When Roger's slash attack hit Bullet, his exoskeleton cut into half as if metal armor was made out of butter. Bullet immediately jumps out and reconstructs the lower part of the exoskeleton into a large mechanical fist with a giant blade built into it. Meanwhile, Roger positions his saber into a piercing stance to which both fighters aim their weapons at each other imbued with their Haki.

"ROGER!"

"BULLET!"

Two fighters shout and unleash their most powerful attacks to which the sky above split in half. When two Haki finally clashed with each other, the noticeable lighting generated from it and a powerful burst of shockwave shattered the ground around them. When the dust cleared, Roger stood tall while Bullet lay in the back with his entire right side of the body broken from shoulder to ankle.

"Damn it, I still lack strength… I lost again," Bullet told himself as he wipes small tears from his eyes.

"...Bullet, you have been growing stronger each time we fought. Having a strong bond with the crew doesn't make you weak but makes you stronger and better as a person. I know you said you will leave if you lose to me but you are always welcome as you are part of my crew and family." Roger said to Bullet as he shed his own tear while covering his face with his hand. Bullet, seeing this realized what he had done but unable to undo his mistake as he must keep his word to his captain. This day will be the last day Bullet saw Captain Roger as two days later Douglas Bullet left Oro Jackson and left Roger Pirates.
