DXD: Hard To Kill

Chapter 24 - Heavenly Dragon

Spears of light rained down on the army of wildlife as goblins responded with makeshift catapaults, launching boulders in the sky towards their flying opponents. The fallen split into smaller groups to combat the wyvern mounted yetis as they positioned themselves with an aerial phalanx manuever. The wyverns ran straight into the spears while the yetis jumped off to grab onto the closest enemy they could sending them both hurdling towards the ground. The tiger mounted goblins maneuvered themselves quickly around the battlefield, stabbing into the grounded angels. Winged ice snakes became shish-kebabed into the ground by spears as they distracted the main army.

The shinigami and Cadre opted to stand back as they watched the carnage unfold with cold eyes. As Kokabiel witnessed his own kind die, he did not weep. His comrades knew what awaited the end of this path, to weep for them would be to disrespect their conviction. For every angel dead, at least 10 animals died with them. This ragtag army of goblins, wyverns and animals would not be enough to make him worry. He looked over to the frozen mountain as he still felt danger coming from the mountain. This was not everything his opponent had in his disposal.

As the final goblin was decapitated by the head by a light sword. The fallen who's numbers still consisted of 1500 strong cheered in their victory. The cadre looked over to the shinigami who remained unfazed as his army of creatures were no more. He felt something wrong when the crimsonette looked at him and smiled.

The cheers were stopped as a deafening roar reverberated from the mountain. Everyone stopped to look towards the frozen top of the mountain as their eyes widened to see the top of the mountain move. The top of the mountain unfurled to reveal a massive dragon of ice at least 60 meters. The cadre moved to take a closer look.

"I didn't think I would see another Heavenly Dragon in this day of age, at least not after the fall of Draig and Albion." he spoke as he took in the sight of the approaching dragon

"Tell me, what is it's name?" Kokabiel asked the shinigami

"She is Skasa the Ice Dragon and my partner. She won't be happy with you considering you've killed all her subjects." Shiro said as the legion of fallen reorganized themselves ready to head to their deaths fighting

Skasa appeared over the legion breathing down a cold breath as the fallen all focused their power into a large wall of light. The wall cracked under the might of the heavenly dragon but held on. Once they thought it was over, the wall shattered to reveal an ice encased tail colliding with a group of fallen killing them instantly.

"BREAK OFF INTO GROUPS! HIT HER FROM AFAR! I WILL HOLD HER ATTENTION!" the cadre barked his orders as his army followed his instructions

Kokabiel managed to dodge the dragon's attacks as his allies rained down spears from all directions. If they cannot beat their enemy head on, then they will wear them down. None of the cadre's movements were wasted, his years of experience showing as he continued to weave between the large clunky attacks of the dragon. It seemed their strategy was working, that is until the heavenly dragon flew up higher in the air. Her large body blocking out the world's sun and for the first time the dragon spoke.

"ICE AGE" came it's feminine voice as the world seemed to freeze over

Large branches unfurled themselves from the frozen surface revealing the group of devils and one exorcist. Everywhere they looked was frozen. From the ground to the skies. Some of the fallen were lucky enough to band together to create a shell of light. The shells still froze over but they were alive, and that counted for a lot. The only things that didn't seem to be affected were the scorched land where the ice quickly melted and the massive tree that still stood strong.

A layer of ice cracked and exploded revealing the worn figure of the cadre. Parts of his body still covered in thin layers of ice, his eyes unchanging as he was prepared to continue to the very end. However the dragon did not give it's attention to him as she flew towards the remains of his army. A figure appeared before him, his blade in hand ready to fulfill his reason for coming. Shiro walked towards the fallen, his haori dancing in the wind.

"Tell me, are you satisfied?" The silver eyed shinigami asked

The cadre simply let out a low chuckle and spoke "Yes, I am. This was a fulfilling battle" he smiled at the red-head

"I'm glad, I didn't want your death to seem inadequate. While I can't burn you, I suppose this works as well" Shiro said as he stopped infront of Kokabiel

"You do not seem to enjoy any of this, I apologize for asking you to do this" Kokabiel said as he looked into his opponent's expression

"I don't think I will ever enjoy killing someone as likable as you Kokabiel. If anything I wouldn't have minded having another drink with you." he said solemnly as his expression was saddening

"Your current feelings will pass. I believe you know well on how to enjoy your life" Kokabiel responded to him

The shinigami gave a bitter smile as he was reminded of his talk with the old man back then

"Yah I guess I do. Goodbye Kokabiel, I'll try not to join you too soon in the afterlife"

"Farewell to you as well. Child of miracles" the cadre finished as his head was cut clean off

The shinigami looked up to the frozen skies of his world

"I really hate serious shit"
