41 – King of Delinquents★

I knew this would happen.

Georg believed that he was good at opening supply boxes one by one. At first, when he saw the package sent by the Engelar family, he thought it was a pointless task. Both the officers and the soldiers complained about not having time to lay everything out properly. But he ignored that, just like the words he had said to Lieutenant, and went ahead with it.

“Lieutenant, it seems that the contents of the package are in better condition than usual.”

As the sergeant said so, Georg briefly hesitated and then told them to open the food box as well.

“Did I mishear something?”

“Crackers, cut them all and check inside.”

“Did I really mishear?”

Since everyone had puzzled expressions, Georg scolded them instead of explaining.

“I also did what the sergeant told me, so just do it without complaining!”

“How can we do this kind of thing in the supply warehouse?”

Everyone buzzed with disbelief, so Georg picked up an axe.

“I’m doing it too, from now on, cut the crackers in half!”

Everyone started cutting the crackers one by one, as if they were dead.

– This can’t be happening.

Georg had observed the behavior of the nobles who had signed military supply contracts while serving as a lieutenant’s aide. When a unilateral breach like this occurred, there would always be objections and the quality of the supplied goods would greatly deteriorate. It was a way of protesting, as the contract had already ended. However, Engelar had sent even higher quality crackers this time. Why would they do that when there was such a large quantity?

“Lieutenant, please look at this!”

“Kid, stop calling me Lieutenant.”

“Yes, there’s something strange about this bread.”

Looking at the cut surface, the flour particles were coarse. When he scraped it with his hand and tasted it, it had a dirt flavor.

“Clay.”

“Are you saying they put dirt in it?”

“Collect all of this and compare the weight with the previous supply.”

When he compared them on a scale, there was a clear difference.

“Crazy bastards, what’s the point of breaking the military supply contract if there’s a penalty? Why would they do something like this?”

“The provisions barely yield any profit.”

“Those gains we made through raids, we’re declaring them as losses just like that?”

Georg declared himself as a noble confronting the border, then ordered a detailed assessment of the damages.

“About 30% of the supplies are contaminated with soil.”

It was precisely the amount of the penalty.

“Calculate the exact quantity and cost, and prepare a report.”

“Yes, will you report this to the commanding officer?”

─ No.

His immediate superior was a fanatic. Georg, as the chief of staff under the Northern Army’s operations officer, controlled all military requisitions with the nobility. However, what if he reported this to an eighteen-year-old lieutenant? Would an inexperienced princess handle it correctly?

“Report to the commander.”

“Wouldn’t that be a procedural issue?”

Asked in a voice mixed with concern.

“If it’s a contractual issue, it falls under the jurisdiction of the operations officer, and if it’s a supply issue, it’s under the commander’s jurisdiction.”

“Ah!”

“Write the report well.”

“I’ll categorize it by supplies and finish the administrative processing!”

“Redo the packaging by the end of today.”

“I can’t be exempted; I need to write the report.”

With a more serious expression than usual, the subordinate asked,

“If the commander finds out, it seems he would handle it according to the rules, but can you handle the aftermath?”

“Kid.”

“With no major or lieutenant, honestly, even I’m nervous leaving the captain alone.”

The subordinate added that the Northern Army, now devoid of capable, experienced, and respected superiors, would become the tomb of the elites.

“In case I get kicked out?”

“Then I’ll leave too.”

“At least don’t mess with what the major has set up.”

Both men laughed simultaneously.

“Honestly, we’ve sucked honey in the shade of the major.”

“Get your clothes ready; when it’s done, bring it straight to my tent.”

Two hours later, when Georg returned from the conquest, the subordinate came with the report.

“I’ll probably get reprimanded for this.”

Bypassing direct superiors to reach the ultimate decision-maker was undoubtedly a breach of protocol. Despite knowing Fanatier would be furious if he found out, Georg willingly decided to take the risk for the sake of his colleagues and subordinates. Shortly after, he found himself standing before Barus in the commander’s quarters, just an hour after the incident.

“Is it a matter important enough to report directly?”

“Yes, sir!”

“Submit the report.”

“Here it is!”

As Georg handed over the report with rigid formality, Colonel wrinkled his brow in disapproval.

“As expected of His Majesty’s anticipation.”

Not understanding the implications, Georg maintained an impassive demeanor, waiting only for the superior’s orders.

“Georg Hanshüpel.”

“Yes, Lieutenant Georg Hanshüpel, reporting!”

“As of this moment, you are appointed as the Chief of Staff for the 3rd Division.”

“What?”

“The main forces of the 1st and 2nd Divisions will head to Engellar under the command of the headquarters. You will be responsible for the location I am about to specify with the 3rd Division.”

─ Damn.

“Colonel!”

“If, in my absence, the enemy invades, defend the positions marked 1, 3, and 7 on this map at any cost. You can afford to lose elsewhere. If sacrificing troops is necessary to buy time, block the enemy advance at positions 5 and 6, and if possible, do not rescue them. It’s not a favorable position to defend, except during a surprise attack. Since Princess has the 4th Division under her command, let her act independently.”

With a pat on the shoulder, he continued, “From today, you are a temporary captain.”

“Colonel?”

Beyond the burden, Georg resisted the pressure that felt almost suffocating, objecting to the hastily made decision.

“It was an imperial decree.”

Barus declared this abruptly and proceeded with an impromptu departure.

[Chapter 41 – School Refusal]

It wasn’t until late at night that Kennes emerged from Jeffrey’s room. Judging by the twinkling stars, it was well past ten. He had crouched down and waited for hours where he could see his own room. Sure enough, just before midnight, the two men tiptoed up the stairs, stifling their footsteps.

─ Can’t even wait a day.

At their vigorous age, it was inevitable. He didn’t expect retaliation so quickly after being slapped today. Anyway, he had successfully set a trap as soon as he heard Greznok and Galterius murmuring among themselves and retrieving the forgotten sword left by him during the day.

Kaang!

The latch fell with just one swing.

“Yanma, isn’t the noise too loud?”

When Gresnok erupted in dissatisfaction, Galterius struck him on the back of the head and entered. Before long, Prade emerged, opened the door, glanced around, and stealthily began to ascend the stairs.

“No fear.”

Kennis casually stepped out of the shadows to ensure she remained unharmed.

“My students.”

“Mom!”

“It seems they’ve come to greet us.”

“But you broke the door?”

“We’ll discuss that shortly; you can pretend not to know.”

Kennis said no more and stepped confidently into her room.

“Hey, isn’t anyone here?”

“Break whatever you want!”

As the impudent students swung the hammer one after another, Gresnok looked on in astonishment and said, “We were supposed to meet during the ceremony time.”

Gresnok was startled by Kennis’s voice and tumbled over. Galterius focused, relying on the light of the lantern. His face had bruises, but his gaze was as sharp as ever, pleasing to the eye.

“I assume you’re prepared.”

Galterius immediately adjusted his stance. He had mastered the martial arts, yet something about his form seemed awkward. Drill instructor Terra Simond had a solid foundation; why did this one look so unpolished? Despite excellent strength, it felt like he had learned it the wrong way.

“I won’t take any more beatings!”

Gresnok, on the floor, threw the hammer in a fit. Kennis unconsciously blocked with her arm, feeling the impact. It wasn’t bone-crushing, but continuing the brawl would likely cause swelling. She apologized to her students and opted out.

“My arm is a bit sore from the recent attack.”

Ignoring it, Galterius spat and urged them to come at him.

“I don’t want to fight!”

Gresnok, agitated, flew out of the window and bounced off the pavement.

“Oops!”

“Come on, just fight. What’s the point of all this?”

“Don’t talk nonsense. Last time, even with ten people, we lost!”

Quietly loosening her ankle, Kennis said, “You repair the door and window.”

“Stop yapping and come at me.”

“Ouch, you jerk!”

As the two approached in formation, Kennis extended her arm several times, keeping them at bay. When Gresnok repeatedly lurked out of reach, she immediately flicked her right foot, knocking his calf away.

“Oof!”

Just as I was about to retaliate, Galterius rushed over and trampled my neck. I managed to dodge him, but I ended up stepping on Gresnock and he fell down. I checked to see if both of them were knocked out after I hit their arteries. Kenis still seemed conscious, but he lacked the will to fight. He placed his foot on his disciples’ backs and said,

“Now that you’re both here, go to sleep.”

He promised not to hit us anymore.

“Who the hell are you to decide?”

Galterius resisted immediately, and Kenis mercilessly struck his head again. Galterius made a beastly sound and started foaming at the mouth. Seeing him sprawled out from the blow, Gresnock reluctantly decided he didn’t want to puke.

“I guess we’ll just sleep here and go to school together in the morning.”

Kenis jokingly asked if he should put us to sleep. Gresnock protested all the way to the end, so Kenis brought a pillow and made Galterius lie down properly. He checked his pulse and there were no issues. He covered his head with a blanket until it was completely dark.

“Headmaster…!”

“Why?”

“Covering the whole body… Doesn’t it feel a bit strange?”

– It could really suffocate him.

After covering up to his neck, Kenis took out another pillow and blanket from the wardrobe.

“Go to sleep.”

“Yes, understood!”

Gresnock lay down as if pretending to sleep. He probably couldn’t even catch a single breath. He would probably spend the night contemplating how to escape, but he couldn’t go anywhere since Kenis blocked the door. Kenis quietly brought a bandage and wrapped it around his arm. It would probably swell. No matter how strong his will was, he couldn’t be okay after striking his forearm against the hammerhead.

– It would be troublesome if Senit found out.

Being a saint who abhorred everything except violence allowed by the Church, she would certainly be like that. Moreover, if she showed weakness to these rascals right in front of her, she couldn’t help but feel that she would lose the rank she had fought so hard for. Suppressing a whimper that could escape at any moment, he leaned against the door and dozed off until morning.

“It’s time to go to school.”

The next morning, when he woke up Gresnock immediately got up, but Galterius was still deeply asleep.

“Are they friends?”

“No. We’re not that close!”

“Then at least bring him here.”

When Kenis grabbed Gresnock’s collar, he woke up with a grumble. In the early morning, with the two men in tow, the expressions of the students of Class C-8 who arrived one by one at the classroom became strange. Particularly, the gaze that fell upon Galterius, who appeared to be dead asleep, was odd.

“Hey, what’s up with him?”

Serrana was the first to ask.

“He came to school early and is sleeping during morning assembly.”

“Then can I sleep during the ritual too?”

– It would be fine if I kicked him in the carotid.

When I said it wasn’t allowed, Serrana made a grumbling sound and imitated a child.

“Why can’t I do it?”

It was another round of questioning when there was no response.

“Selena.”

“Ungae, I’m sleepy.”

“Because you decided to become a lady of the court.”

“You called me incompetent before, now I’m doing things my own way?”

When Kenis smiled at her, she pouted but no longer asked questions. It wasn’t until all the students had arrived that Galterius woke up from his sleep. As soon as he opened his eyes, he began to curse, and as the homeroom teacher, he told them about today’s schedule.

“Both of you have a consultation after the regulations are over.”

He picked up a chalk and wrote on the blackboard.

“How to become the best fighter in Lailand Academy.”

From Noble mtl dot com

Because they were delinquents, they needed to be taught what they wanted. It won’t make them have any goals just by teaching them violence like now. So they need to follow him to fulfill their desires.

“Galterius, you have the talent to become the king of delinquents.”
