Fate's Game [GL]

Chapter 51 - Policeman

In the backyard, Emilié and Aria were running their l.a.p.s, tongue out leeching for air and mumbling in a tactful manner "one - two - three - four" repeatedly.

Sera had ordered them to uniformly count while running and let them take a five minute break, after every three l.a.p and when they don't count, the break would be crossed out and accordingly to that, they were punished to run another three l.a.p.s.

This run-break-run muster, served the purpose of finding their own rhythm to regulate their breath, with an optimal break time in between to drive their circulated blood down and leave sufficient stamina for the next three l.a.p.s.

That was when Sasha's driver looked out spotting two figures running. "Ooh d*mn! I forgot to send a group outside!"

He came out the house and made out, that the little figures he saw, where two boys running in circles for no reason.

First he thought it might be a childish race, but they trully, only run around in circles in snail speed.

"Hey boys!" He called, aproaching them.

Emilié and Aria stopped their snail run at that moment and collapsed to the ground snapping for air.

They finished three l.a.p.s.

The driver jogged over to them in a hurry. "Hey, are you boys oka- GHOST!"

When the driver called out a second time, the boys raised their heads in inquiry to the unfamiliar voice, however what they saw was an uncle screaming from shock and planting his behind on the green lawn.

Aria: "..."

This was the second time today he was cursed out to being a ghost and that from a grown up man to boot. What does everyone have? It was just a bit of sunscreen!

He itched to scold him, however, noticing Emilié with her indifferent stance sitting next to him, he cooled down just as fast, prompting him to tell that fear-faced uncle, honestly and with patient, that it was sunscreen.

"It is just sunscreen, don't be that rude, uncle." And to prove his words, Aria brushed his finger against his face, taking with it a thick layer of sunscreen.

Showing the driver uncle his finger, the scared driver turned beet red from embarrassment, scrambling up from the lawn wiping of the grass sticking on his b.u.t.t.

The driver was a very, very superstitious guy, who believed in supernormal things like ghost, and them being the souls of dead people, he has a very fearful approach to them, since he feared to be cursed.

When he was a child, his big sister would always tell him stories of ghost coming at night and hunting the bad children, so he should obediently take his medicine and go to sleep, and stop disturbing his big sister at her work.

Therefore, when he saw the milky-white faces of the boys, he screamed in fear, losing his balance, greeting the lawn.

Having resolved this misunderstanding, Aria asked the unfamiliar uncle with a suspicious tone. "This uncle, how come you're on our property? This is a private place where entry is forbidden."

The driver rubbed awkwardly the tip of his nose, with a lingering embarrass.e.m.e.nt. "Ooh, I am here to capture some bad people."

He kept his answer short not elaborating, since it's more like searching for a little girl, than looking out for the kidnappers.

Moreover, he couldn't just say everyone he meets the detail of his mission, besides such scary information would make people living in the outskirts unnecessarily fearful, it might even inform the hiding raccoons, if they really should hide here.

"So you are something like a police men?!" Aria cried out in excitement with glittering eyes, showing immense woreship, forgetting that the uncle has shamefully screamed at them ghost a while ago.

But Aria always admired the justice bringing officers, serving their land and protecting the people from the bad guys, thus when he heard him talking about capturing bad people, he 'guessed', the driver being one of them.

The driver chuckled sheepishly giving a vague answer, "Aha ha, not quite.."

"So you are not a policeman bringing down the bad guys?" Aria turned disappointed, just as fast as he became excited.

"No no, I am here for catching bad people!" The driver denied instantly, seeing Aria's sad puppy face.

"Then you are a policeman! Don't say otherwise or you are lying to me, than you are the bad person! Dad told me, liars are not to be trusted, than I can't trust you and you must leave the property at once."

"..." This logic makes no sense.

If Aria says it like that, then the driver has no other choice than to tell him he is a police man, but he was a soldier...

Resigning to Aria's forced logic, the driver cracked a 'yeah' and changed the topic.

He came out to check the backyard and ask the children what they were doing, not to start a dispute, whether he is or is not a policeman.

"Why are you two even running alone in this big backyard? Were you boys racing?"

The driver speedily asked them, while finally sparing some time to eye the boys up and down.

Both were still sitting on the ground with laboured breath, while Aria was holding a conversation with him, the other boy was looking down not acknowledging his presence.

But when they both heard the driver uncle ask them why the two were alone, both of them turned their heads around checking the place.

No deck chair, no parasol, no green haired woman.

Sera was gone!! How weird? And not only that, she took the chilled strawberries with her, seeing that, Aria turned grimmly.

Only for a second he thought, maybe he could snack on some when she was missing, but that stingy woman did not leave anything behind.

But how come they did not notice? And for how long was she gone?

If he had known earlier, he would have stopped running immediately and not then, when this grizzly of a man, with full beard came up to 'disturb' them in their break, with his clumsy way.

Yeah, grizzly of a man. The one who acts cute and energetic, is clumsy, superstitial and believes in ghost, is a man burly and muscular, matching a bears build.

His comrades were not elated at all, when they got wind of that muscle pack, having a loving and caring girlfriend.

That was too much dog food in the military barrack, filled with single dogs everywhere your eyes strayed. Hence the driver had to suffer from underhanded tricks.

Well, who told him to brag around how his weekend was! Why is he even throwing around all the dog food!!

...

Naturally, that did not meant that there were only male soldiers and no females serving their Country, just that man and woman were separated, so that the romance within the ranks doesn't destroy order and discipline.

But then again, romance within the same gender group was not restricted, since this Country is reigned mostly by the old-traditional volks, practicing a relationship against their norm will be followed with disgust and abhorrence by society.

That is why most of them do not act on their feelings and live repressed. And that was why, Sasha had not divulged his and Emilié's relationship to anyone, and even bad talked such outrageous act in front of his wife.
