Fate's Reversal: The Divines Return

Chapter 227 - Thinned Forces, Self-Interest Prevails

….

「Boss Name: Erebus, the True Darkness - Sovereign of the Nightmares

Title: «Holder of the Desolate Abyss Eyes»

Level: 125

Rank: Legendary Raid Boss (Weakened)

Health: 160,000,000,000 (100%)

Attack: ???

Defense: ???」

'Are you telling me...our earlier actions were for naught? I was expecting him to lower to degree supporting confrontation. But this… Is this what he means by something of the Divine Way? If that's the case...what's his original rank? Divine?! Wait… is there a rank preceding that?' chaotically thought Kaiden.

The information given on Erebus was simply horrible! How could any current user manage to confront such a monstrosity? Even Kaiden began to feel like this situation was abysmal. After all, while the rewards were enticing… this amount of health was overkill. Even the suppression of the formation, Erebus' attack, and defense values remained unknown.

"I-I… Can anyone else feel the bruh moment increasing? This is simply insane! What type of bizarre health bar am I witnessing?" incredulously muttered MagicsSlave as he found himself void of hope. In fact, the first option was looking to be the go-to agenda.

"You're not alone. In fact, let me help you there… BRUH!" howled Hollow Stance as he stood petrified. A small comparison took place, not only was he of the Titan Race which boasted extremely high vitality and endurance… he also possessed the Titan class bolstering his strength. Yet, in the unforeseeable future he couldn't picture himself possessing anywhere near this health; at Lv.125 nonetheless!

"This...what went wrong? Unsheathed… what option did you choose? What did option two do? Something is wrong here! It's not that I doubt you, I can see clearly your level has taken a large hit. But..." screeched Teros before frowning and turning silent. In truth, he was looking forward to launching an attack on the boss. However, now, his dėsɨrės had indeed largely extinguished. Not only was the boss strong! To make matters worse, he exuded a mass debuff.

"It's as the boss said. The second option was to overload the formation resulting in the boss weakening further. Only, this isn't the situation I expected. If it's like this… then I fear picking option one would have simply resulted in mass murder," responded Kaiden in a solemn tone. Afterward, his thoughts began trailing as he blankly gazed at the boss.

'That was 100 levels. The way I see it, sacrificing this was basically useless. Although it's no issue due to my means, it's still slightly disheartening to see your efforts fall extremely short of your expectations. Even though I suspected him of being a Legendary boss. That was before my earlier decision.'

Turning his head, Kaiden's sights traveled across the crystalline chains emanating a divine presence. However, now that he looked closely, minuscule cracks were located all throughout. It seemed his override did indeed damage the formation. If it was so, then why was it an option? It wasn't adding up to him.

'Just what is SIGMA trying to do? It seems like he wants to get rid of this being Erebus yet his actions are also causing the destruction of the formation. What's the purpose? There's nothing within my perception that'll change the course of events to happen,' further thought Kaiden only to be interrupted by rampant chatter.

"Regrettably, this isn't something we can deal with. Hence, I think we should all take our leave," said Teros as he clasped his hand behind his back. Shaking his head, he came to terms with the absurdity of the situation. It wasn't worth it to risk the rewards. Meanwhile, Ibram calmly gazed at Erebus.

A light seemed to flash within his eyes as he did so. He was curious, just how strong did the beings of this game get, 'If this is all the creation of WEPA and HARDIC, they've outdone themselves. This feeling, the calmness of the boss... It requires a high level of creativity but...that's only true if they indeed created this. This odd feeling grows, we entered this game for certain reasons, yet it seems there are even greater secrets hidden within.'

"What will be our course of action?" loudly questioned Odin as he turned towards Ibram. Although the message indicated the boss was unable to attack, no one stepped forward to test the waters. Needless to say, any boss with "???" as values possessed seemingly terrifying capabilities. After all, it was only seen before when Kaiden looked upon those Divine NPCs.

"Do you feel confident?" stated Ibram returning a question instead of answering. Gazing intently at Erebus, Odin finally shook his head. While he may possess some means, they wouldn't suffice. In this scenario, none of them matched the orientation of the boss. .

"No. Honestly speaking, even if we four team up and activate that state. Our base stats most likely wouldn't be enough to deal with this boss. The multiplier isn't high enough," remarked Odin while instead changing his gaze to the portal located behind Erebus. There was close to no point in deliberating any further.

"Then perhaps we act in our best interest and leave. Although regrettable, we might as well let this existence retire to his own devices. Whatever happens, is to happen," responded Ibram as he prepared to approach the portal in question.

Meanwhile, Kaiden remained rooted on the spot as he continued a conversation with Genesis.

[It's him! Master, it's him! The one who possesses the Desolate Abyss Eyes!]

'I'm aware, I have come in contact with him,' replied Kaiden in a somber mood. The atmosphere continued to stale as he continued to deride the situation.

[No no! But you don't understand what he is. He's an entity which was born from the negatives of the cosmos. H-he...he's strong! No, that's not quite right. His power is undeniable. I'm not sure why he's here. But he's supposed to be a Supreme of the Kreshari race! He's nearly a primordial being… a Sovereign of the Kreshari.]

'Oh...Oh… OH! What?! That can't be true. Don't all of the Supremes work together?'

[I...don't think so. It's like siblings. Although they exist together and possess a relationship, they also have disagreements. Only… they take their punishments to the extreme. On the other hand, there's also the possibility of this not being the Supremes' doing.]

'So what does all this mean?

[It means… he isn't originally supposed to be on this plane. If he escapes from confinement, it's unknown just what grudge he would harbor. Don't let that calm facade fool you. What lays before you is the evil abyss that devours.]

'This all sounds like it isn't our time to deal with it,' mentally responded Kaiden. However, he was rather despondent. SIGMA expectations were slightly too high if the information he was receiving was correct.

[Well, what you're witnessing currently is probably something like 1% of his true strength. It's unknown how long he has been here but it seems this formation sapped his strength and funneled it elsewhere. Though, it seems… never mind. We can't change anything yet. Master, why are we so weak?]

'I don't know,' responded Kaiden as his expression blanked. For some odd reason, the gray seal in his mind was trembling. A hazy image appeared in Kaiden's mind, except it wasn't what he faced the first time this happened. Instead, it seemed the seal was forcing something to come out of its dormancy.

"Unsheathed, what will you do? Hello?..." asked Teros as he turned toward Kaiden noticing his blank expression. Following Teros' gaze, TerrorAssault also peered in Kaiden's direction.

'That blank expression, what's he thinking about so much that has caused him to lose cognizance of his surroundings. It must be something of dire importance if it's like this.'

At the same time, many began their trek towards the «Altered Spatial Path: Linked Return Point». Yet, even then, their advance was extremely slow. The closer they got to Erebus the more strenuous it was to walk. The initially thin aura turned into a thick fog. Conversely, the more viscous it felt, the lower their stats became.

On the other hand, someone did something mind-boggling. Invictus approached Erebus. However, from his expression, it seemed he did so with contempt! As he got closer, his eyes blackened. Approaching closely, he asked a question.

"Are you one of them?" questioned Invictus.

"Those eyes….I see. So you're one of the Upper. I am no longer one of them. I simply seek to bestow destruction now," responded Erebus with a calm smile. If one looked closely, they'd realize though these two eyes seemed familiar, they gave off different feelings.

"If that is so, then bestow me part of your power," commanded Invictus. His young appearance didn't match the domineering pressure he exuded for a moment.

"No, that is foolish. Bestowed power is not your own. Continue down your own path. If you take this route, you'll only sever your future," rejected Erebus.

"Tch...why do you all say the same thing," muttered Invictus as he shook his head. Now that his eyes changed, he continued unabated towards the portal behind Erebus! In other words, the strongest tank of this raid was leaving! "If that's the case, I have no more reason to stay here."

Narrowing his eyes, Ibram and the others also approached the portal before raising their hand. At the same time, Kaiden's eyes regained focus only the air surrounding him had changed. Furthermore, if one looked closely his eyes were turning a blank white. Silently, he gazed at the ones who chose to leave the area.

However, when his own people began to approach the portal, he raised his hands. Halted in their tracks, the others remained confused. The timer was running out yet their leader was stopping them. Granted, they didn't question his actions much. Seldom had his decisions lead them down the path.

It was then the aura encapsulated those stepping through the gate causing their presences to vanquish from the area. In seconds, the remaining forces were Kaiden's team including Snow Bunny's people and Teros' team who noticed Kaiden staying here. Something told him to remain.

At the same time, the restriction fell into its last minutes. Yet Kaiden gazed proudly at Erebus before approaching at a leisure pace. Meanwhile, this change was due to a conversation that took place in his mind.
