Fate's Reversal: The Divines Return

Chapter 99 - Despair Is A River One Drowns In (3 of 6)

….

Smirking, once the order was given, Blatant Sage sprinted forward at a moment's notice. He was itching to cause discord and havoc. This little formation they had implemented would be fun to disrupt.

"Kekeke, these fools believe they can stop us from doing what we want? Laughable! We will annihilate and play with any and all existences." smirked Blatant Sage.

Following behind him, the other members of the party rushed forward. Unlike the others, TerrorAssault's eyes focused in different a direction, more specifically into the distance. He perceived intense feelings of hatred from somewhere.

'Is that directed here?'

Shifting his gaze indifferently, TerrorAssault ignored the presence. It was incomparable to that of a Titled Titan's presence, so he was unbothered. Moreover, even if it were a Titled Titan existence proceeding toward him—he ranked 2nd on the Titled Titan Record; there was no Titan he feared. Even the 1st rank was only 1st because he neglected training once his daughter was born.

As this party of terror closed in on the members of Ethereal Conviction who struggled to combat the already present players, a demon was charging through the leveling fields like a madman.

....

With each step Kaiden took, he cracked the earth as he tore through the atmosphere with sonic boom like sounds. However, the more he traveled the more he was overwhelmed by this feeling of looming despair.

Regaining a shred of reasoning, he performed an action he didn't want to. He called Snow Bunny.

When she appeared, she was seemingly busy as her eyes were focused on something below her. "Yes, Key?"

"I-...I need help!"

Snapping her head up, she looked at the distraught appearance of Kaiden. She felt something wasn't right at all.

"What's wrong? What's the matter?" slightly panicked Snow Bunny. There was a small pain in her ċhėst appearing at this moment.

"We're being targeted...I don't think I'll be able to handle it. There are 5 guilds intercepting my members...I think there are over 8,000 people!" uttered Kaiden.

His eyes shook with madness. He felt powerless at this moment. It was a dreadful feeling, unable to protect those you want to. Gritting his teeth, Kaiden's jaw creaked.

"I'm coming! Send me the location. You already said we're partners right?" smiled Snow Bunny sweetly.

That smile, returned hope into his eyes. As he nodded. That's right. She was his partner—he could depend on her.

"Meet at the central area of the Crescent Gale Valley."

"I will be there, Key. Let's hurry," said Snow Bunny as she ended the call in a hurry.

Taking a powerful step, Kaiden began executing Compound Burst as his distance traveled received an instant boost. .

….

The members of Ethereal Conviction were embroiled in a heated battle. The melee classes stood at the front line. However, their momentum was crumbling steadily as the sheer numbers of the guild members were overwhelming. Moreover, the Captains snapped their heads as each of them perceived a new party introducing themselves into the battle.

"!! Dammit...NO!" screamed FlashLight.

Of all present, he had the strongest perception in the guild. The people who were closing in on them were experts! Moreover, they weren't just any experts...they had harnessed their Spheres of Influence—they were Hyper Intuition Realm experts.

"Those are real experts incoming! What is going on? Why have authority level people moved against us?!" wailed FlashLight.

"What?!" exclaimed Hollow Stance.

A few expressions blanked as others turned grim. They couldn't understand the situation. One second they were leveling in their usual manner when the next the atmosphere became eerily silent.

10 minutes before…

"Is it just me, or has it gotten too quiet? I understand we have almost cleared the field of its monsters, but...shouldn't it be more...occupied?" questioned Gentle Whisper.

"Mm...now that you mention it. You're correct. It has indeed gotten uncharacteristically quiet." affirmed Symbolic Soul.

Squinting the team inspected their surroundings. The eerie silence was unsettling. Usually, a leveling field was a lot more lively. What kind of timely foreboding atmosphere is this?

However, before they respond to any thoughts they had. The ground began rumbling in the same fashion it would if a herd of gazelle was performing a stampede.

"What is that?!" questioned Hollow Stance.

"Monsters?" inquired MagicsSlave.

However, FlashLight's countenance darkened as well as DespoticShadow.

"No...that is not monsters. It's people. And based on their trajectory...they're heading straight for us!" bellowed FlashLight.

"Eh? Are you sure? I don't recall any scuffles that would result in such a large crowd." countered Hollow Stance.

"I am devastatingly sure. Look!"

At that point, the mass of figures were close enough for everyone to discern. It was indeed a large number of people. Moreover, the likes of DespoticShadow and FlashLight could even discern the malicious expression plastered across the approaching group's faces.

"They come with malicious intent! RETREAT!" uncharacteristically yelled DespoticShadow.

His class enabled him to easily interpret negative atmospheres. An Assassin was one training in the way of the lurking shadows. They were sėnsɨtɨvė to dark things.

"Where are we to retreat to?! They're arriving from the direction of the entrance!" exclaimed Intact.

Enveloped with dread, the guild trembled as they tried to formulate a strategy to get themselves out of this situation.

Stepping forth, MagicsSlave's face was unusually serious. Raising his staff, he began chanting. He was the single most potent damager in this guild. As such, he took a stand to provide the guild a window.

"Ad summovenda pericula venti diffusas! Turbine ignis Lucet!" chanted MagicsSlave as he used Aeros Whirlwind, a new skill acquired from his class tree as well as Blazing Storm.

The ensuing effect was another combination skill which he called Ignition Hurricane. An expansive fiery construct was formed before the party.

"GO!" roared MagicsSlave as he constantly channeled his Mana into the construct. It was wider than it was tall.

Using this window created, the team circumnavigated the approaching mass as they took a detour away from the exit.

"Someone alert the Guild Leader! This situation...we can't handle it at all." roared FlashLight.

….

*Bang*

Raising his shield, Hollow protected one of the supports from damage as he was forced to take a step back. His hurried defense was slightly inadequate. However, using that step he pressed forward as he shoved the enemy into the distance. Unfortunately, this wasn't a one on one.

An ȧssassin appeared behind Hollow Stance executing a Concussive Blow putting him into a stunned state. Capitalizing on this moment, the Assassin unleashed a fluid barrage of stabs and cuts and Hollow Stance's dense Health bar drained.

Noticing what was going on, Practice gripped his sword as he rushed over towards Hollow Stance. However, turning around briefly; Practice raised his sword.

*Clank*

A trio had appeared behind Practice consisting of a berserker, rogue, and a paladin. Gritting his teeth, Practice stared venomously at the trio. In his mind, he was failing his Guild Leader! He was failing his big brother!

"Dammit! Go the fuċk away!" howled Practice.

"Haha look at the little wolf in despair. Get him!" cackled the rogue.

Rushing forward, Practice was also stuck in a difficult situation as he couldn't handle a three-pronged attack. Not to mention, he was a swordsman; his defense and health weren't as sturdy as HollowStance's. As the minutes passed with him defending to the best of his ability; his health deteriorated to the red area—less than 20%.

On the other hand, HollowStance was facing his bane—an Assassin and now more than one. Their crowd control and high attack speed being deemed the scourge of defensive players rang true. Forget passive, HollowStance was rendered to a helpless state.

Clenching his teeth, HollowStance's eyes filled with indignance. He had yet to be placed in such a situation. It was a stain on his mentality. Looking at the attacking Assassin dance around him in such a manner, infuriated him yet he was unable to extricate himself from the stunned state.

*SPLICH*

With a final stab, Practice's body fell as his health meter depleted. He had experienced his first death! As a result, the Lv.45 above his head reduced to Lv.44. Shifting his gaze, Hollow Stance witnessed this. He also witnessed the other 3 ȧssailants now closing in on him. His eyes burned with fury as his indignant expression deepened, clenching his jaw.

'I won't be this weak forever! I swear...I will stand above you all one day. I will return and claim my retribution.'

"Haha, get this fellow! He's the strongest defense in the party. After we kill him we will scatter to exterminate more targets!" said the Berserker.

"Roger!" nodded the Paladin.

Approaching Hollow Stance, the new addition began unloading their skills on him also. His tankiness was further fortified by the PK system. But even then, a 5 on 1 was never fair. More so, in a situation where the one was immobilized.

*FWOOSH* *SPLICK*

Within a minute, the teams of ȧssailants killed Hollow Stance with the Assassin being the last ȧssailant, executing Cut Throat. Unlike Practice, when Hollow Stance fell, he dropped a piece of armor from his inventory.

Shifting their gazes, this party split into separate directions as they searched for their next target. The remaining members of Ethereal Conviction trembled. Their Captains were fighting to protect them yet they were too weak to make a difference!

"I HATE THIS!" scowled FlashLight. He had gamed before. He was privy to the wars between guilds. It happened way too often—the strong preyed on the weak. But, it was too early. He couldn't understand why these people forsook leveling to come kill them. It wasn't practical—it was hateful!

Holding his long lance behind his back, FlashLight unleashed his Sphere of Influence.

"Fuck. COME!"

He determined he would go out fighting. He would pierce as many foes he could. He was evolving into Sky Piercer. No longer would he be stifled by his upbringing. From this moment forward...he would be unrestrained.

"Oh, a little rat wants to play with marbles huh?"
