Game Of The Devil

Chapter 7 - First Night

The movement speed of the zombies was very slow, almost the same speed as a leisurely walk of a normal human. They are about 5 meters away me so them catching me was almost next to impossible. I walked towards the pile of zombie corpse that I killed earlier, with enough speed to not entirely leave the zombies behind while getting ahead of them. I crouched and picked up a spear equipment near one of the corpses.

The spear was the same as the others, rusty and somewhat beat-up. It has a somewhat heavy weight, no less than the mace, that was why I didn't pick it up. I aimed the tip of the spear towards the group of zombies and then threw it towards them like a javelin,

Swoosh!

The spear drew a parabola in the air and landed on the head of one of the zombie and impaled the body of the one behind him. I walked while leading the zombies and throwing to them the equipment that I picked up from the ground. In less than 5 minutes, only 1 zombie was left standing and walking towards me.

I stopped throwing the equipment on the ground and approached the zombie myself. I don't feel like sneaking behind it again this time, I am confident that I can defeat it even without the help of any more tricks. When the zombie was 2 meters in front of me, I unsheathed my sword from my back and pointed it at the zombie.

I dashed towards it and kicked the zombie in the stomach while being careful not to get scratched by its arms. The zombie stumbled backwards clumsily. With that opportunity, I rushed towards the zombie and bent my body. I slashed one of its knee with my sword and the zombie fell to the side together with a spurt of blood.

I did it! I can still feel my heart beating wildly in my c.h.e.s.t and the lack of oxygen in my lungs from the nervousness and excitement of the battle. This is my first time fighting face to face against someone, even though it's a zombie. I don't know what got into me that I fought the zombie head-on but when I thought of fighting it one-on-one, my body trembled involuntarily and I became unexplainably excited. When I fought the zombie, I was so disturbingly calm that I became frightened of myself now that I think about it. Am I one of those so-called battle junkie?

The blood of the zombie contributed to my already bloodstained pants and shoes. I slashed the neck of the zombie and its movement stopped together with the separation of its head. I saw an object fall near it. Unlike the previous drops, this one was small and flat, like it was some kind of paper.

I waited for 10 seconds when the zombies' blood lost effectiveness before picking it up. Looking at the item close-up, I realized that it really was some kind of paper. There was something but the blood makes it a bit hard to read. I noticed that the blood was slowly sliding down the paper, so I held it sideways and waited for all the blood to roll off the paper.

After all the blood disappeared, I looked at the writings again. I can clearly see it this time, but I can't make sense of it. The writings were some kind of ancient language that looked all gibberish to me. I tried to tap it to see if anything happens...nope, nothing happens. Furrowing my eyebrows, I checked to see if I can at least see it was unlike the equipment and I can see its description. A window unexpectedly popped up before me when I did that.

Recipe Scroll (Rank 1)

Cures the user from infection of ordinary zombies.

Materials:

- Vial of inactive zombie blood

- Piece of zombie brain

- Monsters' heart

- Mortal Grass

- Drop of Night Dew

It looks to be the recipe to make a potion that detoxifies zombie infection. This item should be rare as it only dropped once out of all the 100+ zombies that I killed. Although I don't know what Mortal Grass or Night Dew is, I can slowly search for them in the future. They shouldn't be that too rare of a material anyway as they are only an ingredient for a rank 1 potion. The only problem will be on how I can make this potion as there are no instructions on how to make it.

I folded the recipe paper and kept it inside my bag. I dropped my bag when I was climbing the mountain of rubble to lighten my load so it was easy to get it. I hesitated when I looked at the dead zombie. Should I take its brain or not? Yeah, I should not. There are so many zombies anyway so I can just get the material for the recipe when I need it.

I walked around the battlefield and killed the zombies that were just incapacitated while gaining some Exp points. Sadly, I didn't get any more rare drops but my Exp and gold did increase.

I still needed 38 Exp points to level up. There are no more zombies in this area. In the first place, this part of the school was mostly deserted. Most of the students just pass here whenever they needed to get inside or outside this already collapsed building. Most students do not eat here during their lunch time as near here was where the schools' trash were disposed and taken by the garbage truck.

It collects the trash at noon so the smell makes the students lose their appetite whenever they are eating. I was an exception as I am already used to that kind of smell so I stay here whenever I want to feel alone.

I looked up and noticed that the sun has already set. Although my body was rejuvenated from leveling up, my mind was exhausted from all the things that happened today. All of the school building should have already collapsed so there is no point for me in exploring more this night. I need to find a safe place to sleep tonight, so that place?

I climbed the mountain as and saw the place where I plucked the stones out of my body, where I killed my first human and first zombie. So much has happened in this day, it was just the first day of the transformation of this world but I had already completely changed.

I reached the place where I became a murderer and I saw the rock covering half of the hole. The smell of blood has already become strong and when I touched his body, it was already rigid. I carried his body out and placed it somewhere farther away. I buried his body under some pile of rocks as a makeshift grave.

Going back to the hole, I fiddled with the cellphone that I got from the body of the dead guy. I tried opening it but it was protected with a password. There also no answers to my emergency call so I have no choice but to tuck it away for now. I climbed inside the hole and pushed the stone above to cover it. I already became stronger so doing this was easier than before. The smell of blood was very strong in here, but after I adapted to it, my mind gradually became drowsy. With the peace of mind that the rock above can protect me, I slept for the first time in this godforsaken world, literally...
