Chapter 22 - Cards Declined

Ren Shirong: "Xiuying everything has been arranged. All the cards have been canceled and new cards and pin numbers will be sent to the address you provided. All the cards will be canceled on Saturday. Due to the awful situation of your cards being misused without your permission, your credit limits have all been increased by 20%, you have interest free purchasing for 18 months, interest free balance transfers for 26 months, there's a bunch of other things but I told them to send it to you in writing."

Li Xiuying: "Thank you but who are you?"

Ren Shirong felt an arrow go through his c.h.e.s.t. He comforted himself. 'I wasn't actually conscious when Xiuying met me; it's not her fault she doesn't recognize me. She would definitely not forget about her uncle Ren if we had formally met.'

Ren Shirong: "Xiuying I'm a former patient. Let's all go to lunch now and I'll tell you about it." He ushered Li Xiuying out the door before she could refuse.

Ren Shirong turned back to Mao Syà.

Ren Shirong: "Mao Syà you'll be the new branch manager, you'll have a trial period of six months of course. Make sure you sort out all of Xiuying's issues efficiently. Bye Bye." He closed the door behind him.

Mao Syà sat back in her chair. A smile on her face and tears streaming down her cheeks: "Today is a great day." It was finally her day.

City Bank Foyer

Little 4th walked over to Li Xiuying: "Big Sister YingYing You're finally finished! Let's go and have lunch."

Li Xiuying nodded, little 4th walked beside his sister happily. His smile was as bright as a 100 watt light bulb. His big sister had defended him against the evil trio. Although he was a little unhappy that he couldn't protect his big sister, this was overshadowed by the protection he received from his big sister.

Plus he got to see his big sister smile again, she always looks the prettiest when she smiles. Perhaps only Little 4th would think that Li Xiuying's smile filled with malice that could make a demon stiffen in fright was pretty.

Ren Shirong happily followed Li Xiuying.

Ren Longwei approached his father accompanied by his uncle and cousin: "Dad where are you going?"

Ren Shirong: "Xiuying can you wait one minute for uncle." He then quickly stepped in front of Li Xiuying blocking her way. He chuckled internally 'Ha Little girl do you think you can escape today! It's taken me years to find you!' It was probably a good thing that Ren Shirong did not say these words out loud.

Ren Shirong called out: " Renshu let's go to lunch, my treat."

Ren Shirong then addressed his family: "Longwei, Guotin, Daiyu. This is Dr. Li I'm taking her and her... friends to lunch as a treat and to have a catch-up. Come along if you're finished."

Although he had invited his family, he was already halfway out the door with Dr. Li, Madame Qin and little 4th. Zhang Renshu ran after them.

Ren Longwei, Ren Guotin and Ren Daiyu felt unwanted.

Longwei: "Let's go quickly! Father has clearly forgotten about us." The Ren's chased after the group.

Ren Shirong: "There's a wonderful Chinese restaurant called The Sacred Lotus just 5 minutes from here."

Inside a private room at The Sacred Lotus.

The group of eight was seated around the table. Everyone had just finished ordering.

Ren Longwei: "Madame Qin, would you like some more tea?" He poured some jasmine tea into Madame Qin's cup.

Ren Guotin: "Madame Qin as in the Madame Qin of the Qin family?!" He was both surprised and confused. Why does Madame Qin look like, like... like this? Ren Daiyu and Zhang Renshu were just as surprised that this old woman was actually Madame Qin.

Madame Qin laughed elegantly: "I just dressed down a little to accompany Little 4th and Xiuying on their outing."

Madame Qin nodded at Ren Shirong: "Elder brother."

Ren Longwei and Ren Daiyu: "ELDER BROTHER!!!"

Ren Shirong laughed heartily: "Still up to your old tricks I see? I couldn't even recognize you until just now! All this time I was trying to figure out your relationship to Xiuying "

Madame Qin giggled: "At least my skills haven't gone to waste."

Ren Shirong explained to the others: "Little Sister Chyou and I are sworn brother and sister. We grew up together. Little Chyou used to love disguising herself and playing pranks on all the neighbors. We lost contact before Chyou got married to Qin Weimin." His voice had taken on a slight melancholy.

Ren Shirong: "Is this your son?"

Madame Qin: "Yes this is my little Qin Zhen." She ruffled Little 4th's hair.

Little 4th scrunched his little face: "So you're my uncle, not a grandpa?" He was holding a cup of tea in his hands, he didn't like tea but he wanted to be like everyone else.

Ren Shirong laughed and nodded.

Little 4th: "How do you know my big sister YingYing?" This was what he was really curious about.

Ren Shirong: "Xiuying saved my life...

I had been driving home late one night and a truck smashed into my car. We later found out that the truck driver was drunk and fell asleep at the wheel. I was knocked unconscious and when I woke up, I found myself connected up to machines, bandaged up, in pain and unable to move. My family was around me.

My wife and doctor had informed me about what had happened during the time I was unconscious. It so happened that a certain Dr Li was passing by and witnessed the crash and rode in the ambulance with me. My wife told me that all the other doctors had said they should expect the worst and say their goodbyes while they still had the chance. At this point Dr. Li took charge.

She berated all the doctors present and told them to hand in their medical licenses when they passed the reception on the way out. My wife said it was quite a sight watching a small girl who was probably no older than 18 shouting at all these surgeons and doctors who were at least twice her age and triple her size.

Xiuying had mended my perforated bowel, my ruptured spleen, reset both my femurs, my right humerus and my clavicle and removed a subdural hematoma from under my skull. She had made sure I was stabilized then wrote a 50-page detailed care plan for the doctors to follow.

Xiuying had approached my wife and handed her a piece of paper and said 'I charge 100k for every 5 minutes check or cash.' My wife laughs as she tells this story now but at the time she almost fainted in rage both by Xiuying's words and the amount written on the paper. Hahaha.

The only reason why I could recognize Xiuying was that I had ordered a copy of the security footage. I was constantly on the lookout for Xiuying. I eventually got a hold of her contact details and arranged a meeting but it was her uncle and some Li Yu Yan that had shown up and wasted my time. They even had the audacity to suggest a marriage between Longwei and a girl called Li Na."

Li Xiuying nodded as she recalled the incident: "The car accident at Tiantan road 6th October 2007, 2:15 am."

Everyone was taken back by Li Xiuying's memory capabilities, well everyone other than Little 4th who had a smug look on his face. 'Just who's big sister do you think she is?'

There was a knock at the door and waiting staff entered and placed a dish after dish on the table. When they were done there wasn't even a small area of table cloth that could be seen.

The Ren family all had millions of questions they wanted to ask Li Xiuying. They held themselves back when they saw that Li Xiuying and the Qin's had already started eating.

3 pm, A Jade store in a luxury shopping district

Shop Clerk: "That will be 2 million yuan, Miss Li."

Li Yu Yan handed a card to the clerk whilst continuing her conversation with Li Na.

Li Na: "That bracelet is so beautiful, I'm sure brother-in-law will love it."

Li Yu Yan giggled: "Sssshhh you can't call him brother-in-law what if people hear us?!" She told Li Na off but anyone could tell she was actually happy at what Li Na had said. She couldn't wait to give Chen Wei the gift she had picked.

Clerk: "Excuse me Miss Li the card has been declined."

Li Yu Yan: "That's strange can you try again"

Clerk: "I've tried 3 times."

Li Yu Yan took back the card and handed the clerk another card.

Clerk: "I'm sorry Miss Li this card has also been declined."

Li Yu Yan didn't know what was going on. These credit cards have such a high limit, 2 million yuan was nothing.

Li Yu Yan watched as the clerk tried twice more.

Li Yu Yan turned her nose up at the clerk and spoke haughtily: "Well there must be something wrong with your card reader then. Hmph."

She picked up her cards and left in a huff, a confused Li Na followed her out.

Li Yu Yan immediately called her dad.

Li Yu Yan: "Daddy there's something wrong with the gold and purple credit cards, I tried to use them just now and they were both declined."

Li Wang: "How much did you want to spend? Is there something wrong with the card reader?"
