Granting You A Second Life

Li Xiuying washed up her bowl and cutlery and headed back to her bedroom. She put on some pj's and slipped into her bed.

She downloaded a popular romance novel on her phone and snuggled in to her bed and started to read. A few chapters later her eyelids grew heavy.

She mumbled to herself as she drifted away to the land of nod: "Mmm, yes I'll go to the dance with you." Li Xiuying's dreams were filled with women in elegant gowns, men in tuxedo's, beautiful live band music and dancing under the moonlight.

Sunday 14th

Li Xiuying woke from a long peaceful night's rest. She sighed in comfort while making a starfish on the bed. She felt around her bed for her phone, 10 am. Hmm plenty of time to get ready for this afternoon.

She showered and got dressed. Li Xiuying decided to live life on the wild side today; she wore a round necked three quarter length baggy black t-shirt paired with a dark pair of black biker jeans. She put on some purple short ankle socks with hamburgers printed on them. This was the most exposed skin she had shown in years.

She walked into the kitchen and made herself some stir fried rice noodles with an assortment of vegetables.

Li Xiuying looked through her kitchen cupboards and the fridge. There weren't enough ingredients for this afternoon. She decided to go shopping.

Li Xiuying put on a pair of trainers, picked up her coat from the foyer floor and put it on. She made sure she had a pair of gloves in her pocket, she didn't want to push herself too far in regards to her skin not having the barrier of clothing protection.

She picked up her keys and purse from the foyer table and hummed as she left her apartment.

I'm going to have a girls day ~ we're going to stuff our facessssss ~ and eat caaaaaaaaaa~ keeeeee ~ because that's what I've heard people do on a girls day ~ She continued humming her made up song as she strolled to her car.

She stroked the bonnet of her car. "Hello Baby. We're going shopping today."

She looked up local supermarkets. There was a large supermarket approximately 35 minutes away. Li Xiuying was pretty excited about physically going shopping; she had always just bulked ordered protein bars, protein balls, dried fruit snacks and bottles of water and juice.

30 minutes later Li Xiuying pulled into the supermarket parking lot. She put on her gloves as she walked towards the entrance. She snagged a trolley, which seemed to be trying to escape from the automatic sliding doors.

Li Xiuying made a mental shopping list in her mind: 'Hmm I'll need meat and vegetables, noodles, glutinous rice, ingredients for dumplings and wantons. I'll buy some cake too.'

She made her way down the first aisle of vegetables. Li Xiuying picked up vegetables as she went along this list included cabbage, spring onions, chili's, peppers, spinach etc. She also bagged and placed some garlic and ginger in her trolley.

After she had finished with the vegetables she hummed her little song as she sauntered towards aisle 2, the fruits aisle.

Just as she reached the top of the fruit aisle she heard a woman screaming.

"Ahhhh! Someone help! Help! My Husband, My husband is chocking! He can't breathe! HELP!!!!"

A crowd started gathering around the middle aged woman who was trying to frantically pat her husband's back while shouting for help. The middle aged man was clutching his throat, his mouth was wide open trying to gasp for air, he made choking sounds and he was becoming pale.

Li Xiuying pushed her trolley to the side and left it to walk towards the middle aged man. Before she could reach the middle aged man, a young woman in her 20's stepped out from the crowd.

Young Woman: "I'm a doctor, can everyone please make way."

She walked through the crowd and towards the chocking man.

Middle aged housewife frantically spoke: "Doctor! Please save my husband!"

Female doctor: "I'll do what I can."

She put her hand on the man shoulder: "Excuse me, I'm going to need you to lay on the floor, I'll have to perform an emergency tracheotomy, someone get me a first aid kit, and a bottle of alcohol with the highest alcohol content." The doctor helped the man lay down on his back and knelt by his side.

Whilst the doctor was talking, Li Xiuying had made her way to the front of the crowd. She frowned at the woman. Li Xiuying walked to the middle aged man's side, she held his jaw and she looked into his mouth.

She mumbled to herself: "I can't see an obvious cause for the blockage."

Li Xiuying: "I need you to get into a kneeling position. Can someone help?" Two men stepped forward and stood either side of the chocking man and helped him to kneel. The female doctor who was at the patient side was forced to quickly move on her knees, so she was positioned a few steps directly in front of the patient.

Li Xiuying: "Try to cough."

The middle aged man tried to cough, but it was of no use.

Female doctor: "Hey what are you doing, you're interfering with emergency medical treatment. You are endangering..."

Li Xiuying paid no attention. She leaned the middle aged man forward whilst the two passerby's supported him.

Li Xiuying proceeded to give the man 5 sharp back blows in between the man's shoulder blades. Nothing came out.

Li Xiuying positioned herself directly behind the middle aged man. She circled her arms around the man between his umbilicus and below the rib cage. Li Xiuying made her left hand into a fist and grasped it from above with her right hand. She then started performing abdominal thrusts; she pulled in inwards and superiorly.

With the second thrust, the man c.o.c.ked his head back and something flew out his mouth. The food item projected forward and hit the female doctor smack on her forehead.

Female doctor yelled: "Aaahhhh!" She instinctively brought her hand to brush away the item on her forehead. Her forehead felt wet and she then looked at her hand. What is this? Saliva?

She looked down on the floor in front of her and saw what looked like a piece of octopus tentacle.

The middle aged man spoke between gasps: "Thank you so much."

Li Xiuying: "You should still go and get assessed at the hospital, due to risk of injury from the thrusts."

The middle aged housewife: "Thank you so much, thank you. I'll make sure that he definitely get's checked at the hospital."

Li Xiuying started walking back to her trolley when the voice of the female doctor rang out behind her.

Female doctor: "Hey you, wait right there!"
