Guardian Of The World

Chapter 24 - Odds of a Battle

"Are you sure its here?" Roland asks.

"Yeah, the skeleton was right here when we last saw it." Sylvia replied while trying to track if her location was actually right or wrong.

"The skeleton didn't move an inch after we encountered it face to face, it didn't even try to attack us after we casted few crowd control skills. Hmmm... I wonder where it went?" Draven said scratching his head while checking his surrounding trying to look for the skeleton's presence but the skeleton was gone.

"Well, let's go and huok-!?" Roland cut off his words. A chill went down his spine after he felt a tremendous aura from afar but even though its far away, he could tell that this aura doesn't belong to any regular monster.

"A-are you okay?" Sylvia worriedly asks. Although Roland is her leader and should be respecting his highness, she couldn't hide the fact that he is the man that she loved and cherished. Even though this was just some sort of virtual reality, she didn't like to watch Roland get hurt.

"I-its okay, I think I know where this monster is." Roland apprehend himself and gazed at the area where the tremendous aura's source would be.

*******

'Who might they be bringing now? It seems that this person will be a good match up with me!' Kris grinned and drew both of his swords. He would love someone that could endure even one of his attacks without placing them into a critical condition.

Kris expected that this will become a battle that he'll never forget for the rest of his life. As what he thought, it might not just be a memorable moment but also a life lesson to him.

Moments passed and finally they had arrived. What Kris saw was a bit of unexpected. He saw all the previous members that had tested him except for that guy who he just killed. But the one that he was focused and had interest in surprised him.

'That strong aura came from this dude? He looks a bit... how should I say this. Average?' Kris thought about it as what he could see on his appearance.

Basic equipments and shabby face. It didn't match up with the aura he was emitting but Kris was a man who looks not by the looks but by the person's innate self, so he wouldn't try and act rash but be cautious.

'This man might be hiding something else.' Kris said to himself while understanding this guy's tricks. But for Roland's perspective, he wasn't worried at all. Exceptionally he was pumped up. For a long time he could now feel the drive of challenge flowing through his veins.

"This will be a good fight on what I could tell! All of you please move out." Roland ordered his members so thy didn't hesitate but do as he says. They already saw what the skeleton could do but they had also knew of what Roland could do so they were confident that this fight will side on Roland's.

"If you need support, will be here." Sylvia worriedly called out Roland while backing out. They didn't even activate the ritual since Roland had confidently ordered it that he'll take care of it himself.

"Well then, I should be going fir-" Before Roland could finish his words, Kris had dashed towards him thrusting his right sword towards his abdomen.

Whoosh!

"Hold up! I wasn't even finish saying my words yet you answered me with your sword?" Roland said.

'H-how?!' Kris was dumbstruck. The edge of his sword had penetrated a water clone of Roland and eventually melted to a puddle. The words of Roland came from his right side and quickly gazed unto it. There he saw Roland complaining nonchalantly like that attack was something to not be concerned about.

'Amazing! He was able to dodge that instantly. I didn't even saw him change locations!' Kris's astonishment rose up, he could tell that this man was no ordinary player. He was those type of player that shouldn't be judge by the appearance.

"You ready to get wet?" Roland asks the skeleton while redrawing the short swords in his back.

"My dad could've made a better pun." Draven said trying not to cringe.

"Yeah I agree, he could've said "Ready to suffocate from death?" And that would've sound way cooler but why did he had to go with the word "Wet" which is a bit s.e.x.u.a.l don't you think?" A member said as he opened up his reasons.

******

Roland sprinted towards Kris with his bipedal speed. The two short swords on his hands were angled vertically forming an X shape.

'Going straight through me? You must be going to suicide!' As Kris said to himself. He pulled out the right sword on his hand making a defensive stance. He was confident that he could block the incoming attack since he had trusted his speed and evasiveness.

Whhhiiissh!

The sharp edge of the short sword pierced through the air. Roland aimed it at the skeleton's ribs but when he saw that the skeleton had used one of its sword to defend his attack, it didn't matter to him and continued on pushing all of his strength to this attack.

'Why is he still continuing this attack? He knows that I'd block it, but why is it that he wouldn't change his strike? Does he confidently believe that he could pierce through my defense or does he have another tactic in mind that I'm too stupid to know?' Kris had this in mind confusingly try and defend the sword with all his might.

Flooup!

When the short sword's blade and the skeleton's sword impact with each other, Kris expected that that a huge friction of collision would happen but to what he saw fully surprised him.

The blade went through Kris's sword making splashing noises like the sword that Roland was holding was only an embodiment of water.

"..!"

The blade then collide with Kris's skeletal body causing damage to be received.

[-2,400]

'It went through!' Kris surprisingly backed out from Roland's perimeter trying to reoccupate to what just happened.

Although the damage was quite the minimum, the attack was still inevitable. Making this a huge disadvantage to Kris.

'If I can't defend his attacks then I'll just avoid it at all circ.u.mstances.' Kris's change of plans want him o ensure of victory but there was still much he had to be wary.

"Sigh, tis but a scratch. I thought the damage I would deal would be a bit heavy but I was wrong huh? Well, let's do this again!" Roland sighed but still continued to sprint forward striking his blade at the ribbed part of Kris's body.

'Again with that attack?' Kris now tried to evade the strike by twisting his body to the right since t seems that Roland was trying to hit the same mark where the scratch was left on the bone so he could deal additional damage.

"Hohoho! This skeleton has brains after all, though your using your head but you don't have a boner!"

'A boner?' Kris confusingly ask himself.

"Water wheel!" The two short swords on Roland's hand began to release fountains of water that formed into a sharp spinning blade. With a flick with his arms, the spinning blade of water flew towards Kris direction. It whirled through the air horizontally leaving sprays of thorny water that pierced through the wind.

[Splashing Noises]

Kris used his two swords to defend against the rampant spinning of water. He placed the swords sideways forming an X shape which he used to block its spinning blades of water but because of the heavy momentum of the water wheel, he was forced to be pushed by a couple of meters.

[Slicing Noise]

Kris slashed the water wheel causing it to evaporate. He looked at Roland with strong killing intent and it seems that Roland was just observing him in a distance and it looked like he was becoming more quieter than previously.

'Then, I'll go next! Madness!' Kris's jet black cloak began to whistle wind. The supposed to be black had glowed into a grayish color.

'Ikuzo! (Let's go in Japanese)' Kris dashed towards Roland in a speed of a jet. This was the effect of the skill madness which increases his agility by 30%. It was triple times faster than which he uses a sprint scroll.

Swing! Swing! Swing!

After he closed the distance between him and Roland, he began to strike his swords to different angles of Roland's body. His striking speed was so fast that he could perform upto 3 hits per second.

'This should deal pretty much high damage, ah! What the heck?' Kris was surprised, there were no damage indicators showing up 'til he realized that Roland was actually just a water clone.

Splash!

The clone turned into water after Kris backed away from it.

"Yoohoo! I'm here!" It was Roland's voice that came from behind him.

'H-how did he?' Kris exclaimed.

"Well you are pretty fast and I'm sure that I can't catch to your speed but your easily fooled by tricks well that's just normal since your a monster. Let me just say, even if you can catch up to me, I'm invulnerable to physical attacks and only magic can damage me. Oh wait you can't understand English, how about this, Gueraghuleguergur!" Roland imitated monster sounds. He look like an idiot having a seizure that cause his members who were watching from afar to chuckle.

'Hmm, so you can't catch up with my speed? And I can't deal physical damage? But your weak against magic? Oh? I give you my thanks!'

Wuoong!

Kris disappeared in thin air which caused not only Roland but all of them to be in a state of panic.

'Wh-Where did it go?' Roland ask while checking his surroundings for movements.

"Roland! Don't panic! I'm pretty sure his just hiding or he may be retreating! You can call us if you need backup" Sylvia shout out to Roland.

But Roland was not listening, he was too focused on trying to avoid an ambush.

Wuoong!

Kris reappeared leaping on air behind him and as expected Roland quickly inverted his body and tried to parry his attack.

'The swords are covered in violet mist and what is that! A trinket!' Roland said as he saw the upcoming attack to him.

"Water Dragon!" Roland shout causing an eruption of blazing sea of water to spread from the short swords. Eventually it formed a raging dragon flying towards Kris.

Graaagh!!

The dragon roared out trying to collide against the leaping Kris but in an instant, Kris dispersed again in nothingness.

'Where the f.u.c.k do he go?!' Roland shrieked in panic. The dragon quickly dispersed after its target had disappeared leaving sprinkles of water. The sweat and sprinkles of water covered Roland's body to eventually be covered in liquid.

"Die!" A very grievous voice echoed from above.

It was Kris using his deadly skill: Pierce throat added with the skill shadow blade. Kris wouldn't deal physical damage but shadow damage. So since shadow is a type if element, it is perceived as a magic attack.

As for Roland, who always confident and positive in every battle, this was his first to be devoured by fear and death.

To him who was 24hrs in the game, he became absorbed inside this causing him to believe that this was real life so to him, his head would think that he would actually die.

Juujujut!

The blades pierced down his head down to his throat not only dealing grievous wounds, but injecting a very powerful magic that spells a curse o the target.
