Chapter 17 The Real Defense Against the Dark Arts Lesson

A gust of cold wind blew through the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, dispelling the strong smell of perfume that Quirrell had sprayed to conceal Voldemort's presence, and also swept away the drowsy mental state of the young wizards.

Dracula looked at the energetic state of the students and nodded with satisfaction.

"So, this is your first Defense Against the Dark Arts class in your life, right?" He put his hands on the desk, leaned forward, and carefully looked at every little wizard present.

"Yes, Professor." the little wizards said in unison.

"Then it's indeed a bit irresponsible of me to ask Quirrell to take over the class." Dracula, who had just settled his knot with Nico Flamel, was very easy to talk to.

He chuckled and even bowed slightly to everyone.

"This class is really difficult for you, and I apologize to everyone."

Seeing the professor who exuded a noble and profound temperament bow to everyone, the little wizards in the audience suddenly felt flattered, and some of the resentment in their hearts had already flown away.

There was warm applause from the audience, and all the little wizards looked at Dracula eagerly, looking forward to what he called the real Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson.

Sensing the students' expectations, Dracula took out a pure black wand in front of others for the first time.

This wand is thirteen and one-half inches long and is entirely pitch black. The second half of the wand is engraved with many magnificent patterns, and a deep aura is faintly revealed from the hollows.

The end of the wand is inlaid with a transparent crystal, which emits a transparent light, like a dark moon.

Ollivander had already forged the wand a few days ago and sent it to Hogwarts along with the remaining materials for Dracula.

Dracula held this wand, perhaps because the wood and the core of the wand had a great connection with him, and he felt like he could use his fingers with his arms.

He waved his magic wand, and a line of bold handwriting appeared on the blackboard behind the podium——

What is Defense Against the Dark Arts

Dracula turned sideways so that the little wizards could clearly see this line of writing, and then asked:

"Can anyone tell me what Defense Against the Dark Arts is?"

As a conditioned reflex, Hermione in the first row raised her hands high.

Dracula nodded to her.

"Defense Against the Dark Arts, in short, is a course that teaches students how to protect themselves from dark magic, including methods of dealing with dark creatures, dark magic, and duels!" Hermione said confidently.

"You memorize the definition very well!" Dracula nodded approvingly.

In fact, he himself didn't understand what the definition in the textbook was, but looking at the confused expressions of other young wizards, he felt that the answer should be no problem...

"What's your name?" he asked.

"Hermione Granger, Professor." the little witch said proudly.

"Very well, Miss Granger. Five points for Gryffindor." Dracula nodded to her and motioned for her to sit down.

Then he continued, "Of course, in my opinion, Defense Against the Dark Arts should not be so narrowly defined. What we need to defend against is far more than just black magic and dark creatures."

"The knowledge of defensive techniques should be applied in every aspect of life. You can use defensive techniques when you are bullied by your classmates or when you meet gangsters outside."

"In the magical world, learning cultural subjects is to allow you to talk to scoundrels calmly, and learning defense is to allow them to talk to you calmly!"

Listening to Dracula's speech, the little wizards were a little confused and a little excited, feeling that the door to a new world had opened.

"Of course, you are still young and do not have much magic foundation. At this time, you need to learn to use other powers to defend yourself - such as alchemy armor, external weapons, or the simplest and most effective method called people!"

There was a burst of knowing laughter in the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom.

"Don't laugh, I'm serious." Dracula knocked on the desk, "For you little wizards, it is not shameful to seek help from adults, but it is the wisest choice."

"For example, when you go out on adventures with adults, the most convenient way is to buy two magic looking glasses. When you are in danger alone, press the contact button on the looking glass, and the other looking glass will be paired with it. The mirror will sound an alarm and lead your elders to your location."

"In addition, the two signal spells of red sparks and green sparks can also play a good role in alarm and communication. After you go back, you can preview by yourself and start learning these two spells in the next class."

"However, I do not recommend that you use the spark spell to send out signals when facing danger." Dracula said, "Because this signal will not only be seen by your friends and elders, but also expose your position to the world. Under the enemy's view."

"So it is necessary to mention some spells to hide one's body here, such as the Illusion Curse..."

Dracula stood on the podium and talked eloquently, making full use of his thousands of years of life experience to explain the most basic knowledge of defense in a lively and interesting way. The little wizards in the audience were fascinated by what they heard. Even the students who didn't like studying felt that it was full of useful information, so they picked up their quills and started taking notes.

Suddenly, the end of get out of class bell at Hogwarts rang melodiously.

This Defense Against the Dark Arts class had already been delayed for more than half of the time. Now Dracula and the students were in the state of mind. The time passed quickly and the get out of class was over before they knew it.

Dracula was slightly startled when he heard the bell ringing for the end of get out of class.

It had been a long, long time since he had experienced this feeling of time passing so quickly.

"Okay, that's it for today. When you go back, remember to preview the green sparks and red sparks in the textbook, and check the preview status in the next class." He smiled easily, put away the wand, and took it from his pocket. Take out a cross pendant made of gloomy wood.

"In addition, since I have taught you so much about using foreign objects to defend yourself, I also have some small gifts for you."

The center of the cross pendant is engraved with an ancient rune symbol representing the moon. What is different from the church's cross is that its shorter horizontal bars tilt upward slightly, like a pair of outstretched wings.

"This is an amulet I made when I was bored. It can resist a lot of black magic and is quite practical." Dracula raised the pendant and showed it to the little wizards in the audience. "In grades one to three, there are black magic in each grade. The student with the best score in the defense class final exam will receive this amulet."

"So, learn your defense against the dark arts!"
