================================

In order to get out of this room, the ghost had to be moved from the door. It felt like a ghost was about to attack the moment the lantern light flickered, but luckily the lantern light didn’t go out.

[…Boo… .] Boo?

Fidelis tilted her head at the faint ghost’s voice muttering something and looked straight at the ghost.

[Boo… Fire, put it away. Fire, put it away. Fire! put it away! Put away the fire! Put out the fire! Put out the fire!]

The murmuring ghost lifted her face and began to cry to Fidelis. Her face was already melting away, and her eyes were full of white liquids.

Her mouth, which opened with every shout, was tattered, and there was no tongue inside her.

Frozen for a moment, Fidelis had only her pupils shivering, and then she howled, giving strength to her stomach.

“Aww, aww! Please forgive me! Huh!”

Fidelis, crying face to face, trembled as she begged for her forgiveness. Fidelis could intuitively feel that she would become X the moment she put out the lights. [ T/N: The ghost is a female ]

As if holding her lifeline, she gave strength to the hand holding the lantern and moved it towards the ghost, and as it gently touched the ghost, the ghost staggered back and began to scratch her arm.

[It’s hot! Hot! Please, put out the fire! hot! Put out the fire! I’ll burn you too! I will kill you!]

“No, I do not want that! Whoa! I hate to burn!”

With tears in her eyes, Fidelis responded to the ghost’s words. Every time the ghost scratched her own body, Fidelis could not stand it and had nausea because of the falling flesh from the ghost.

Since I hadn’t eaten anything, the only thing that came out from my mouth was saliva.

“Woa… … .”

Wiping her eyes and mouth roughly with her sleeve, Fidelis stretched out her hand holding the lantern as far as she could and threatened the ghost.

The ghost couldn’t come close and was busy crying and weeping.

As she approached the door cautiously, faint footsteps could be heard in her ears. Her pulse accelerated and her whole body thumped.

“Tsk, did you call a friend?”

[Aaaaaah!]

“Why? Are you sorry?… .”

I didn’t even expect an answer.

With tears still in her eyes, Fidelis opened the door and ran in the opposite direction from another ghost the moment she got out of the door.

How many times do I have to run away like this?

I would rather just let go. Her tears covered her eyes, so she couldn’t even see well. After wiping her eyes with her sleeve, Fidelis clenched her teeth and ran again, and suddenly her legs lost strength and she stumbled.

“Ugh!”

Her arms were long swept on the floor of the corridor, causing her skin to tingle.

“All of your energy has been consumed, and your stamina has become 0%. You cannot move until your energy is restored.”

Fidelis couldn’t lift a single hand, as the audible mechanical voice said. Since she had used up to 0%, the blood pain that would disappear if she would be in 100% stamina reappeared.
Above the bar was written 0%.

I  must have consumed a lot of energy by encountering the horrific ghost earlier.
In the meantime, I even ran at a tremendous speed, so it was a natural result in a sense.Fidelis looked around her by only moving her face slightly. At her first sight of the open space, she hurriedly rolled her eyes to find the hiding place.

It was as if she was now standing blankly in the middle of the line which the enemy would pass. She saw large standing columns, and she decided that she would hide there.

Cannot even lift a single hand of hers, Fidelis waited for the slightest bit of pain in her to reduce.

It said that finding peace in her heart would restore her energy, but instead of being calm as she lay alone on the cold floor, her heart pounded even more with the anxiety.

Alone in an open space and unable to even lift a hand, this situation was frightening and unfair, so Fidelis bit her lips tight and tried not to cry. But, there was no way to stop the tears that flowed from her eyes in spite of her efforts.

With her head raised, Fidelis stared at the blood bar in her tear-soaked eyes. The red bar was gradually coming up.

When the percentage reached ten, Fidelis grabbed a lantern, staggeringly walked with her wobbly legs and hurriedly hid behind a large pole.

“Huh, huh.”

Sweat dripped down her chin. Fidelis wiped the sweat from her chin, then leaned her head against the pole and closed her eyes. She breathed in and out, trying not to think about anything.

At that time… .

[…I heard it.]

The eyes that had been closed flew open. Fidelis immediately crouched down, tightly covering her mouth with her hand so that not even a breath could escape.

[Obviously, I heard… .a voice.. Here… .]

The child’s voice was cut off.

Bump, tick, tick.

Was the sound of footsteps this creepy before?

My whole body was drenched with sweat.

[There was a human.]

My heart pounded. The pounding of my heart began to beat violently as if it was leaking out from a child’s voice that came straight out. If I moved my body even a little, I was close enough to be caught by the ghost.

I was never more resentful of the glowing lantern light than this time. Fidelis shook her head at the light that seemed to be visible through the cracks between the pillars.

To put out the light, I have to open the lantern’s glass, but the sound will definitely leak out.

[Where are you, where are you, where are you, where are you?]

The repeated words, the sound of footsteps running around the empty space was heard. Fidelis hurriedly turned off the lantern, taking a risk by making the noise.

Clink, Clunk!

[Where are you, where are you? where? where? where? where? where?]

The child’s footsteps, who had been running like crazy, abruptly stopped.

It felt like my heart was going to stop with anxiety.

Please, please go away, go somewhere else. Please, somebody… !

No, no.

‘No one’s gonna save me.’

It will be the same here. As the strength of the hand that had covered her mouth loosened slowly, she heard the sound of something breaking in the distance.

A sharp burst of sound flowed down the empty hallway and reached the child’s ears.

[There it is. Over there! There!]

The child who responded to the voice immediately ran away from Fidelis at a frightening speed. When she couldn’t hear the footsteps anymore, Fidelis’ body collapsed as if torn apart.

“This crazy game… .”

It was a situation where I couldn’t help but swear. Even though she didn’t want to cry, her tears continued to flow.

But, Fidelis still got up.

Her staggering body grabbed the wall and hurriedly moved her steps in the opposite direction from which the child had come. Her body was still stiff from tension since her stamina wasn’t fully filled.

I had to fill the rest somewhere.

I was anxious to enter some room, but I thought I would be found out quickly if I hid like this.

Even in the previous room , I was really lucky to get out, but I couldn’t expect such a blunder a second time.

Fidelis lit her string candle again, put it in the lantern, and held it forward.

“… Uh?”

I saw stairs going down. It was markedly different from the short stairs before. This time, it was definitely going downhill. I had been so distracted earlier, but the outside of the previous room where the ghost had come out with the burns wasn’t that high.

At least three stories high?

‘This was an opportunity.’

Fidelis went down the stairs without hesitation.

Bloodstains were clearly visible on the stairs, as if someone had been forced to climb up the stairs. Seeing that her hair was also tangled, it was clear that she had shed a lot of blood.

Fidelis moved to the side as far as she could, but she saw numerous bloody palm prints on the wall next to her.

“Hah!”

She grasped her lantern firmly. In order not to look at it as much as possible, Fidelis’ gaze turned to the front only. When she came down the stairs safely, Fidelis looked left and right with a lantern.

Again, the long hallway was eerily quiet.

Fidelis moved carefully to find the stairs leading down again.

Looking at the screen bar where her energy was gradually recovering, more than half of her stamina was filling up. When she found the stairs going down, her energy had fully recovered.

“Aww!”

Fidelis stopped at the child’s voice as she was about to go down the stairs. She turned her face to shine a lantern in the direction of the child’s cry, but all she could see was darkness.

Fidelis, hesitant to go, shook her head. It might have been a ghost pretending to be a child like before.

She prepared to go down the stairs at a rather quick pace like before. But, an invisible membrane hit her forehead and her butt smashed to the floor behind her. Fidelis rubbed her forehead and wept.

“What, what is it? What’s the matter… … .”

Couldn’t I just go anywhere? But I must use the stairs to go down… .

Fidelis fumbled over the invisible curtain.

Unlike the stairs I had descended well before, this time the road ahead was blocked by a transparent curtain.

As I lowered my hand, which had been fumbling against the transparent wall, and stared anxiously at my back, I heard a familiar voice in my ear.

”The game event has been launched. The theme is “Protection”.”

“What? I’m not going to play game events!”

I screamed in amazement, and then the voice came back.

“You cannot go downstairs until you clear the game event.”

“I’m going to decline the quest!”

Fidelis’ desperate voice could be heard, but there was no voice that followed.

Why are you doing this to me!

I quickly picked up the lantern I had fallen before and stood up. I almost fell down several times while climbing the stairs with my trembling legs in fear, but I had to clear the game event or whatever it was. Then, I could get a chance to go down to the first floor and explore some rooms.

But, I mean, I already said I don’t want to… .

Holding back my tears as much as possible, I climbed up the stairs, stuck my head against the wall, and looked to the left and right. The cry of a child I had heard before was cut off like a lie.

Crackling, squeaky.

Instead, a terrifying squeaking sound was heard. Fidelis murmured in dismay.

“Help me… … .”

Help? Who am I going to help or protect in this state… .

Gently chewing on the topic of the quest earlier, she sat down on the stairs, falling head on her knees and moaning. I didn’t want to go out.

The ghosts I saw after starting the game were all people who could not speak. Fidelis choked as if someone was tying her neck with a leash. I wanted to go back soon.

At that time… … .

“Aww! Mom!”

The cry of the child was heard again. Fidelis jumped up from the stairs. She considered that there might be a possibility that a ghost was pretending to be a child’s cry and ignored it.

But somehow, she caught the theme of the game event. When it comes to “protection,” it certainly means to protect someone in need.

Fidelis went up to the stairway without hesitation and went straight to the place where she could hear the baby cry. No matter how scary it was, Fidelis was not cold enough to ignore the real child. She grabbed the lantern and hurried to where the voice was heard, and she saw a crying child lying on the floor.

“It’s okay right now, are you okay?”

Fidelis approached the child as carefully as she could,by stroking her hair. As the child lifted her head, she saw the tears flowing down from her large eyes.

“Who are you… … .”

She’s really young

Fidelis was astonished as she wiped away the child’s tears.

Obviously, this mansion is a cursed mansion, and I knew from the first floating screen that people came in to break the mansion’s curse, but why did the child… …
