3. Lu Zhen

Ji Ran felt pain all over his body, so he didn’t move.

The man placed the bowl of noodles on the bedside stool and helped Ji Ran to sit up. He then handed the bowl to him.

“Eat,” the man urged as he put the chopsticks in Ji Ran’s hands.

Ji Ran was hungry, and he could really do with some hot food right now, so he did not refuse. He immediately took the bowl of noodles and gulped them down. And then he drank all the soup. Now that the bowl was empty, he finally asked.

“Who are you?”

The man did not answer Ji Ran but extended his hands towards him and looked into his eyes.

“Uh…” Ji Ran was dumbfounded and he blinked blankly. He didn’t know what the man was trying to do, so he just stared at him. Now that he was sitting close to the man, he could see the man’s facial features, and he realized that the man was quite good-looking. He had broad eyebrows, big eyes and darker skin. Each of those facial features was not outstanding on its own, but by putting them together, they made the man look handsome and impeccable. And the way the man sat there made him look majestic. To put it scientifically, men with high levels of testosterone were often more attractive.

Ji Ran was born a gay, but he had always been more masculine, so he liked feminine gay men and he was not interested in muscular men, but the man in front of him stunned him. And he could only think of one word to describe him: Handsome!

The man waited for a long time but Ji Ran didn’t respond, so he said, “Give me the bowl.”

Ji Ran handed the bowl over to him.

The man took the bowl and chopsticks and stood up. “If you’re not feeling well, just take some rest. We can manage to do all the farm work without you. So it’s alright if you want to rest for some days.”

Then, the man was ready to leave with the bowl and chopsticks in his hands.

“Wait!” Ji Ran came to his senses and stopped him. He looked at the spirit tablet with red silk out of the corner of his eye, “You haven’t told me what your name is!”

The man stopped but he didn’t turn around. He just turned his head slightly and said, “Lu Zhen.”

“Lu Zhen?” Why did the name sound a bit familiar?

Ji Ran scratched his head in confusion, and when he raised his head, the man was gone. The door was closed and he didn’t hear the door being opened and closed. He didn’t even hear any footsteps. The man disappeared into thin air.

Ji Ran stared blankly at the spot where the man had been standing. A thought crossed his mind and he turned his head to look at the spirit tablet on the table. Though he carried it the whole time at the wedding, he didn’t have a chance to see what was on it. So he didn’t know the name of the dead person he was married to. When the edict was issued to him, the name was mentioned, but he didn’t bother to remember it.

As the room was dim and the spirit tablet was too far from him, Ji Ran couldn’t see it clearly at a glance. Besides, the ancient Chinese characters were too abstract, so he could only make a guess. And it took him a long time before he did that. Even though it was just his guess, it almost scared the shit out of him.

“Lu…Lu…Lu…Lu…Lu…Zhen? I…I…I…I must have been mistaken, right?”

Ji Ran was dumbfounded. He suddenly remembered the man’s sudden disappearance and felt a chill running down his spine.

Lu Zhen, Lu Zhen, Lu Zhen…

If he guessed it right, then… then was that man a human or a ghost?!

‘Come on, I’m married to a deceased man, but it doesn’t mean that I’m married to a ghost, right?”

“Wait, last night…”

Ji Ran thought back to the exciting sex scene last night. It was too dark and he could not see the man clearly. He could only vaguely see a silhouette and the shape was…

Now that he thought about it, he was more certain of his guess. Although he was not a-hundred-percent sure, Ji Ran felt that the man and the ghost were the same person.

‘F*ck! Is there anything more scary than marrying a ghost?’

Ji Ran gulped his saliva in fear and started to shiver uncontrollably.

Although he was feeling very uncomfortable, Ji Ran felt that he couldn’t stay in the room anymore. He grimaced in pain while he got out of bed and put on his clothes. When he did that, his left foot stepped on his right foot and he tripped up. He screamed, and then he slowly stood up by leaning on the edge of the bed and stumbled out of the room as quickly as possible.

“Gosh, look, what a wonder! The sun isn’t up yet and the new ‘wife’ is out of his room!”

The sudden sharp female voice startled Ji Ran. He turned his head and saw an pregnant woman looking at him with a smile on her face while eating sunflower seeds. The woman was in her early twenties. She was pretty, but right now she looked quite mean. It looked like she was trying to pick a fight with Ji Ran.
