23. Underground Fighting Coliseum

Translator: Guy Gone Bad

The place where Ling Fan was going was the largest underground fighting coliseum in Liuhe District.

He had never been there before, but he had heard it from his fellow inmates.

In the underground coliseum, some people gambled, and some people played with their lives. People were being killed in the fighting every day.

It was not a good place, but Ling Fan came there because he wanted to improve his fighting skills.

It was part of his plan.

“Hey, the boy in black! Yeah, it’s you. Have you bought a ticket yet? No admission without tickets.”

A man with tattoos stopped Ling Fan at the door of the fighting coliseum.

“No.”

“You have to buy a ticket first.”

“I’m not here to watch people fight. I want to sign up for matches.”

The man pointed to another passageway and said impatiently, “This way. Go to the room at the end of the passage. Mr. Leopard is there.”

“Thank you.”

Looking at Ling Fan’s retreating figure, the man snorted, “Humph! What a crazy poor guy!”

‘Some people are here for entertainment; some are here to make money. But I have never met anyone with a death wish like him before,’ the man thought to himself.

In the eyes of outsiders, Ling Fan was asking for death.

Mr. Leopard thought so too.

“Hahaha… Come on, no kidding. Hahaha… I’m in a good mood today. So I give you a word of warning. If you are short of money, call your parents or go to nightclubs to get yourself a rich sugar daddy. This place is not suitable for you.”

After a period of exercise, Ling Fan grew a little stronger. He now looked like a normal 17-year-old boy. But in this fighting coliseum, anyone who wanted to fight had to sign an agreement which said his opponent was not responsible for his disability or death. Apparently, Ling Fan had no advantage.

Ling Fan said calmly, “I’m not short of money.”

At that, Mr. Leopard lost his cool composure.

“Fuck you! Are you here to stir up trouble? You are not short of money, then why are you here? Get out of here right now! Otherwise, I’ll teach you a lesson.”

“I’m not short of money. So, you don’t have to give me money if I win matches. What’s more, I can sign a consent form to forego any claiming rights in times of severe injury or death.

“No lack of money. No fear of death. What on earth do you want?”

“I love the adventurous life.”

“Gosh, you are brave with a strong personality. Alright, sign this contract. You ask for it. If you die or become disabled, don’t blame me.”

Mr. Leopard threw a contract on the desk in front of Ling Fan. Without saying a word, Ling Fan scanned the contract quickly and signed his name on the last page.

“When can I play my first match?”

“Newborn calves are not afraid of tigers.” Mr. Leopard turned to a man named Luo and asked, “Who are in the ring now?”

“AO and Long Qi.”

“Take him to the arena.”

“Okay.”

Mr. Leopard looked askance at Ling Fan and said, “Hold off your opponent as long as possible. Otherwise, the audience will want a refund.”

“I’ll do my best,” Ling Fan replied. “By the way, I want the right to choose my opponent if I have ten straight wins.” According to an unwritten rule in the underground coliseum, a person, who had straight ten wins, was given the right to choose his opponent and decide how many matches he played a week.

“Yo, you came prepared. Humph! Let’s talk about it when you have ten wins.”

“Believe it or not, I’ll win.”

“How can you be so confident?”

……

Ling Fan followed Luo to the arena. He pointed to a gaming table and asked, “Are they betting on the outcome of the next match?”

“Yeah, Mr. Leopard thought you are very brave. So he bets 10 yuan on you.”

“Oh, really? Please convey my gratitude to him. Mm, please wait a little bit. I want to place a bet on myself too.”

Ling Fan gave a smile and walked to the gaming table.

“Excuse me, can I use my credit card?”

“Yes, of course.”

“I’d like to bet 100,000 yuan on the next challenger.”
