“What?! There’s a big cave underneath this town?!”
“Yeah, that’s right.”
I gave a brief answer at Alaine’s shocked words.
Clink
We were talking about our next move as we relaxed over a cup of coffee after finishing our meal.
“Re-really? So do you think that might be where the evil god is?”
“I think the possibility is pretty high.”
“Bu-But according to the information I’ve gathered, there’s nothing out of the ordinary about this place…?”
“Hmm… Right. I also think it’s strange that’s why I did a deeper investigation about the information Alaine has gathered.”
I took out the world map and various notes from a big bag that Alaine always carried.
“Look at this.”
I pointed at the written notes of information and then pointed to the next note and then another note. The location of the evil god’s hideouts were written on those notes.
“They seem to be too neatly arranged and there are too many of them.”
If you connected a line with all of these evil god’s hideouts location, you would be able to form a star. This was definitely not a coincidence.
“Most probably, these are not information about the evil god’s hideout but a magic circle to activate some kind of magic.”
Magic circle. I didn’t know much about it but it was something other humans needed to use in order to activate a large scale magic. Most probably in all those towns we’ve ventured, like the one where we fought that crab monster, there was a small mark painted there as part of a large scale magic circle. We never noticed anything of that sort before though.
“I see….”
Hearing my explanation, Alaine nodded obediently.
“Because of that…”
“….Ah!”
Alaine exclaimed, interrupting my words. It seemed she had just noticed something.
“This town is located right in the middle of that star shape!”
“That’s right.”
I nodded at Alaine’s exclamation.
“I think the evil god is attempting to do something with this magic circle that goes over through countries. Most probably they have an altar in the underground cave here in order to activate the magic from the magic circle they’ve made. I keep on muddling over that possibility.”
“I think you might be right!”
Alaine shouted, satisfied with my deduction.
“Zero, let’s go! Let’s raid them now!”
Alaine stood up, raising her voice loudly.
“Umm…”
I felt this sense of uneasiness when I heard her words.
Clink.
I lifted my cup and took a sip of my coffee.
“Let’s enjoy our coffee first… Or maybe that evil god is more important than the time spent together with me?”
“No, of course not. Well… You’re right. There’s no need for us to hurry.”
Nodding at my words, Alaine sat down once again on her seat and outstretched her hand toward her cup of coffee.
