24. Lost in the Magic Barrier

Translator: Ann Yi

It was precisely because of this that the Patriarch also had cameras installed besides the hidden barrier created by the jade slips.

If there weren’t any cameras, those ordinary people would probably be trapped in the mountain forever. In the past, if people got trapped and died in the mountain, no one would ever know about it.

But now science and technology was developing so fast that even the Patriarch felt intimidated. If tourists were lost in the mountain, he would have his foxes send them back. He couldn’t afford the risk of letting the rescue team go up the mountain.

The cameras came in very handy. Stardust Mountain was too large. If any mortal was lucky enough to enter the hidden barrier, the fox fairies could know it immediately and get that mortal out of the barrier.

Thankfully, Larry did not know that. If Larry knew that, he would probably laugh out loud. What were those foxes doing? Building a fairy society in a scientific world? Hahaha…

Frost wondered if it was his illusion, but he felt that someone was staring at him. He felt that he was being watched.

When he told this to Mirrocle, Mirrocle felt exactly the same, “You also feel it. I have also felt that something is watching me, but I tested it just now. There is nothing else in this mountain except for the strong fairy aura.”

If a fairy was staring at them, Mirrocle was confident that with his ability, he would be able to discover it.

“We should be extra careful. We have already entered their protective barrier. Hold my hand and never let go.” The fairies and demons Mirrocle used to face were all weak ones that lived alone at the foot of the mountains. It was the first time he met such a large group of fairies.

Larry was basking in the afternoon sun on the rocky beach. The sunlight wasn’t too strong. The wounds on his hands and feet were no longer bleeding, but they still hurt a lot.

‘So the old fox planned to let me die here? I have nothing to eat or drink, and I can’t move at all. I would starve to death like this. This is really a cruel way of death…’

In his previous life, Larry had grown up smoothly since he was a child. He’d never labored in his whole life. The only exception was when he just started working for the film company, he often didn’t sleep at all for work. And in order to produce a good work to gain popularity, sometimes he had to shoot hundreds of times for a simple move.

Many people felt that as an Internet celebrity, Larry didn’t produce anything and had no contribution to society, and they felt that it was inappropriate for people like Larrry to make so much money easily.

However, only Larry knew how hard it was. Those people who wanted to be rewarded withot working hard came and left in the entertainment industry, and the reality was not as beautiful as they imagined. They couldn’t cheat the audience by just making those low-quality videos and series.

Among all the interns, Larry was the only one who persevered and made it to work for the film company.

He had already died once, and God wouldn’t be so kind. He didn’t dare to bet that God would give him another chance to reincarnate again.

No one could save him now. Then he had to save himself. His limbs were broken, but he was still alive.

He would survive even if he had to eat grasses.

Frost and Mirrocle were in trouble. When the Patriarch learned that Frost was the one who fed Larry in the mortal world and that he had brought a magician to Stardust Mountain, the Patriarch had no intention of letting them leave alive. People couldn’t die too often in Stardust Mountain. And no one wanted to see accidents happen, but if it really happened, there was nothing they could do.

FVA Unit 01, together with his colleague, FVA Unit 02, planned to let Frost and Mirrocle die by accident.

After Mirrocle broke the foggy magic array formed by a large number of azaleas, a spacious road suddenly appeared in front of them which led to a bungalow.

“That is their…dormitory?” Frost said the word “dormitory” hesitantly. He was still not used to discussing creatures that existed beyond the field of science in such a modern way.

“It should be. Nowadays, the spiritual energy is lacking in Heaven and on Earth, so very few obstacles are set up with spiritual power. In most cases, magic barriers and arrays are used to achieve the effect of enchanting people. Simply put, a barrier set up by spiritual power is a magic shield, which can resist most spells and certain physical attacks. The array is a physical defense, but it is more than enough to deal with ordinary people. However, the barriers and arrays here are built on the base of the surrounding environment. If we had an excavator here and removed everything in front of us, including those stones and bushes, then the arrays would be broken automatically.”

But where could they get an excavator? It was just a joke from Mirrocle, so don’t take it seriously.

Frost nodded thoughtfully. He thought that when it came to bewildering arrays, the most famous one was probably the one from the fable The Peach Blossom Spring.

“So, the one that is written in The Peach Blossom Spring is like the one we’ve encountered? It’s a physical array?”

Mirrocle was very satisfied with Frost’s savvy. He nodded in approval. It was a pity that Frost was just a vet.

Frost could see through disguise without being trained, and he had the gift of communicating with animals and he had such strong savvy. If he studied magic, Mirrocle believed that Frost would end up even better than his professors.

Luckily, the Astraea Foxclan had to use the environment to create their barriers and arrays. If they had used spiritual or magic power only, the barriers would be soon seen through by Frost, and they could walk through the barriers freely to save lots of time.

“Alright, since we have found the exit, let’s go find Larry.” As he said that, Mirrocle walked towards the bungalow.

Originally, when Frost saw those bungalows, he also planned to go over, but just now Mirrocle told Frost about the barriers and arrays. Frost immediately stopped Mirrocle, who was about to go forward.

“What’s wrong?” Mirrocle didn’t understand why Frost stopped him.

“You just said that if we forcefully destroy these rocks, we can break the barriers, which means the rocks we see in the barriers and arrays are real. So can the stones retain their forms when they were put in the barriers and arrays?” Actually, in Frost’s eyes, there was a wide gully between them and the house, bridged by a huge stone.

As long as they walked past the stone bridge, they could reach the opposite side. If, as Mirrocle said, this was a magical barrier created from the surrounding environment, then the stone bridge really existed in real world.

“There should be differences. The things we see in the array are different from what we see when we are outside the array. Although they are real, when we see them in the array,  they should be different. ”

“So are we in a barrier or array, or are we in real world now?”

“We just came out from an array. Didn’t you see it?” Mirrocle asked wonderingly. Why would Dr. Frost, whose aptitude he had just thought was good, ask such a simple question?

“Then why did you go that way? There is nothing in front of you. The stone bridge is over there.” Frost pointed at where he saw the stone bridge was. It was not too far away from where Mirrocle was advancing, but below the stone bridge was an abyss. If they went the wrong way, they would fall into the abyss undoubtedly.

Mirrocle realized that something was wrong. He asked Frost nervously, “Did you see the house in front of us? Is it a bungalow?”

“It’s a bungalow but we have to walk past a stone bridge. Is the scene you see different from mine?” At first, he just wondered if he had not left the magic barrier. Now it seemed that the scenes they saw were different.

Then who was the one who saw the right scene?
