26. The Thunder Spell

Translator: Ann Yi

Once the Thunder Spell was cast, Frost and Murk clearly felt that the surrounding airflow had changed.

Mirrocle crossed his fingers and walked around. The way he walked seemed casual but when one looked carefully at it, there seemed to be mysterious rules. He recited the magic spell, “Bring me power, bring me light! Thunders of the world, here you shall strike!!”

All evil magic arts were no match against the thunder and the lightning, including the magic of dummy foxghosts.

That was also why although the Astraea Foxclan had a hard time self-cultivating, as long as the spiritual energy in their bodies was enough for them to grow nine tails, the Lightning Punishment would hardly do any harm to those cultivated nine-tailed Kurama Foxes. As for other fairies, if they underwent just ordinary cultivation, with the baptism of the thunder, their spiritual energy would be refined and purified. But comparatively, the process would be a lot more painful.

Few fairies and demons who took shortcuts in cultivation could survive the Lightning Punishment.

Although the foxghosts were strong, they became weaker with the strike of the Thunder Spell. More and more cracks appeared on their bodies.

The black air surging in their bodies almost overflowed. In comparison, the scratches that Murk made were nothing.

It was bright and sunny just now, but suddenly a lightning as thick as an arm struck down. Though Frost had accepted the fact that there were many unnatural and unscientific phenomenons in this world, when he saw this scene, his pupils still contracted.

“Mirrocle, can everyone cast this spell?” If ordinary people could do it, it was like taking an explosive with them. Frost was a little interested. If it was possible, he’d also want to be able to cast this spell.

Mirrocle watched as the two seriously injured dummy foxghosts tried to hide themselves and explained in a good mood, “Of course not! It takes great effort to cast a Thunder Spell. Although it is powerful, its power depends on the capability of the caster. The Thunder Spell cast by me is not very powerful. If it was cast by my master, there would be no way for these two foxghosts to hide. One strike and they’ll be destroyed.”

While Mirrocle was talking, the cracks on the skin of the two foxghosts became bigger and bigger. And their skin kept peeling, and soon the foxghosts could not even maintain their original form. Then the skin was completely shattered by the lightning strikes. The black air in their bodies could no longer stay wrapped, and it turned into black smoke that floated away in the sky.

The lightning strikes caused by the Thunder Spell were finally over. They came and went. If it wasn’t for the holes that were left by the lightning on the ground, Frost would have thought that he’d just had an illusion.

“Done! Let’s get moving. I wonder how Larry is doing.” Mirrocle said care-ladenly. Whenever he thought about Larry, he became worried. Larry had become a fox. If fairies in the foxclan found out that he wasn’t the original fox, what would they do to him? Mirrocle didn’t dare to think about it.

Reviving in someone else’s dead body was deeply despised both by cultivators and fairies.

Even though the situation Larry was in was special and Mirrocle believed that he was innocent, others might not believe him. Furthermore, he was in the lair of the foxes. If they found out the truth about Larry, he would definitely be dead.

Mirrocle decided to listen to Frost. It was not that he didn’t believe in his own competence, but that he also wanted to see how good Frost’s gift could be.

The two men and one cat walked to the place pointed out by Frost. Mirrocle couldn’t see any stone bridge if he didn’t open his mind’s eye.

When he got to the place, he opened his mind’s eye and saw the stone bridge Frost talked about. It looked like there was no danger.

“Wait a minute.” Mirrocle picked up a stone from the ground and threw it at the bridge. The stone didn’t go downwards in a parabola style. Instead, it fell vertically to the ground as if it had encountered some obstruction in the air.

The two of them looked at each other silently. Mirrocle lit a paper crane and tried to let it fly over.

The result was the same.

Even if the paper crane went at a different direction, it was still stopped. No matter how the paper crane approached the bridge, it couldn’t cross the transparent barrier.

“Mirrocle, this is the magic barrier you mentioned just now, right?” Frost extended his hand forward in an attempt to touch the invisible barrier.

“Be careful!” Before he could finished, Mirrocle saw Frost was hit by a gust of air and staggered backwards.

Frost managed to stand steady. He looked at his hand. He seemed to have touched a wall of water just now. It felt so cold. Even the counterattack of the transparent barrier was like water, both soft and firm. And it didn’t do much harm to him.

Mirrocle pulled Frost aside and warned seriously, “You are really bold. You didn’t even know what it is and you tried touching it! Fortunately, it rebounded on you softly. ”

Frost also knew that he was reckless this time. So when Mirrocle said that, he just listened to him without refuting.

Mirrocle ignited a tracking talisman and made it to fly forward, trying to see how strong the barrier was, but he didn’t dare to break through it forcefully. He didn’t know how strong the fox faires inside were, and there were only the two of them here. Just now handling the two dummy foxghosts already consumed much of their energy.

“Let me check where Larry is and see if we can get around the barrier.” Mirrocle took out Frost’s daily necessities from his backpack. He took them before they left Frost’s house.

He thought it would come in handy when he needed to track Larry’s scent. They tracked to Stardust Mountain by following the foxghost’s scent. Now that the foxghosts had vanished, he could only chase after Larry’s scent.

After a tracking paper crane was ignited again, the little burning paper crane swayed towards the west, which was in a completely different direction from the barrier.

The moment the foxghosts disappeared, the Patriarch who had been keeping his eyes closed and cultivating suddenly opened his eyes.

He thought that Frost and Mirrocle were just two reckless youngsters, but they destroyed his FVA Unit 01 & 02!

“Go and catch those two humans here!”

A gust of wind blew through the empty hall, and then the hall became quiet again. No sadness or joy could be seen in the eyes of the Patriarch. Everything he did, he had a clear conscience in it. He did whatever he had to do to revive the Astraea Foxclan.

Frost, Mirrocle and Murk followed the paper crane. The road ahead got more and more rugged. At the beginning, they walked on roads paved out for tourists, but gradually there weren’t even any roads.

It was getting a little dark, but they still couldn’t find any trace of Larry. Mirrocle said to Frost, “We didn’t bring much when we came out, and we’ve only got each other.” He looked at the fierce-looking Murk and added, “Murk also helped a lot.”

“It’s almost dark now. I’m afraid that the foxclan will send more foxghosts after us. Why don’t we go down the mountain first? I’ll contact my Senior Brother immediately and ask him come to help us.” Mirrocle was obviously anxious and wanted to save Larry as soon as possible, but with the current situation, he wasn’t allowed to do that. If he was alone, it would be fine to stay in this mountain. But now, forget about how gifted Dr. Frost was. He was still a mortal.
