Lisko’s American Life

Chapter 43: Christmas 2

Colt was making a wreath of holly boughs to hang over the gate, and a rooster on a ladder hung a bouquet of shrubs from the ceiling.

The dinner was ready quickly, and Lisko helped bring the delicious dishes to the table, and opened a bottle of Huazhuang red wine that he specially brought, which was produced by a well-known high-quality winery on the right bank of Bordeaux.

The family sat down, with Beau at the head of the table, Rooster and Lisko on the right, Maggie and Colt on the left.

Bo first closed his eyes, clasped his hands, and prayed silently under his chin.

Although no one in the family believes in religion, this birthday of Jesus is rare and special.

After Bo finished praying, he was very relieved and happy to see the whole family sitting together neatly.

"Come, respect the family." Bo picked up the wine glass, because his injury was not fully recovered, so it was filled with clear water.

The family raised their glasses together.

"Respect the family."

Lisko was also a little emotional, and the circles of his eyes were slightly red.

Everyone put down their wine glasses and began to eat. Turkey is an indispensable food on the table. Maggie specially selected the largest turkey, and stuffed a lot of vegetables and fruits such as carrots, celery, onions, chestnuts, etc. into a ten-pound turkey. Inside the belly of the turkey, spread a variety of spices on the surface, and then put it in the oven to roast.

Lisko looked at the grilled golden chicken, drooling.

There are also tree trunk cakes on the table, and tree trunk cakes are a famous French Christmas delicacy.

Before electricity was invented, the French used a good firewood as a Christmas gift. The French are romantic by nature, and even the origin of food is romantic: Once upon a time, a young man who couldn’t afford Christmas gifts picked up a piece of wood in the forest and gave it to his lover. Therefore, the trunk cake has also become a symbol of wishing good luck for the coming year.

There is also polenta, which is particularly American-style, baked polenta, with a layer of cream on top and some fruit. This is a great dessert that catches the fat of the turkey nicely.

Everyone enjoyed the dinner happily while talking and laughing. Lisko liked the roast turkey dish very much, probably because he is a person who loves meat. Oven-roasted aroma enters meat.

The protein content of turkey meat is 20% higher than that of other poultry, while the fat content is 21% lower, and the cholesterol content is low. It is easy to manage, has strong fecundity, high meat production rate, and high input-output ratio. Rarely, they raise and eat green grass normally. Lisko made up his mind to raise some on his ranch next year, so he can make some roast chicken by himself.

After dinner, Maggie's alcohol capacity was still not very good as usual. It was strange to say that she came from a wine-making family, and she even opened the only tavern in the town, but she couldn't handle alcohol.

She was sitting in a dazed state, and Lisko greeted the rooster to put the tableware back into the kitchen. It was the most surprising part of Christmas, exchanging gifts.

Lisko sent out his own gift first, because the gift box was tied with beautiful cable ties and placed under the Christmas tree in advance, and Lisko also wrote his name in advance.

"Bo, this is for you." What Lisko gave Bo was a long gift box, which contained a high-end British cane.

Bo opened the gift box and immediately fell in love with it. Americans have always looked down on the British, while secretly learning their various aristocratic etiquette. The cane is an indispensable equipment for a British gentleman. This cane is made of black walnut Yes, Bo's name has been engraved on the end of the staff, and a turquoise from Turkey is inlaid on the top of the staff. This is a low-grade gemstone, and the inlay is very harmonious.

Bo couldn't put it down while holding this cane. Lisko had noticed a long time ago that in order to straighten his waist, Bo usually leaned on the ground with a stick, so he specially ordered it in a famous brand cane shop in England.

It can be seen that Bo is very satisfied, and Lisko gave Colt a gift, which is a DV camera. Now Colt intends to develop into a video broadcaster. Although Lisko lent him one, it is not his own after all. Yes, Colt is very careful every time he uses it, so Lisko simply bought a new one for him.

Sony HDR-SR1E is a trendy DV player that just came out this year, and Lisko didn't understand it either. He read electronic magazines and rated this camera as one of the best of the year.

Colt was also very surprised. Originally, he planned to buy one by himself in a while, and this one was also in his favourite, but the price was a bit high, so he backed off a little. He stepped forward and hugged Lisko.

"Thank you, great gift. I love it."

Behind is Maggie's gift. Lisko didn't know what to give her. After hearing about her ideals, he made up his mind.

Maggie opened the gift box, it was so light inside, she was still joking. "Lee, you're not going to send me a check, are you? It feels like a piece of paper."

After opening it, there is a card inside.

It has the Citibank logo printed on it.

"This is a custom-made service I asked Citibank. It doesn't cost money, but within the scope of my annual service, this card allows you to stay in any hotel in the United States, eat meals, and take it to the bank to withdraw five dollars in an emergency. If you travel alone, we can rest assured, and this card has a positioning chip, so we can know where you have traveled at any time."

This gift happened to be Maggie's need, and finally there was the gift of the rooster, which was really hard to think of. He was Lisco's ranch master.

"Rooster, here is your gift, I handpicked it,"

The box was about the same size as Maggie's, and Rooster was looking forward to what Lisko would give him.

He opened the box, and there was also a card inside, which was the gas card of the largest gas station in Denver.

"This gas card can give you free gas for a whole year," said Lisko, who really couldn't think of any gift to give him, but Rooster loves to drive very much and cherishes his new car very much, so let him give him a gas card.

Then Lisko also opened the Christmas present they gave him. What Bo gave him was a somewhat worn-out lighter.

"This was given to me by your father before, and he gave it back to me after we had a conflict. This has witnessed the friendship between me and your father, and now I will hand it over to you."

This is an old pure copper Zippo lighter left over from the Vietnam War, with the name of Garrison Town printed on it, and Lisko put it away solemnly.

What Maggie gave was a wonderful handmade whip. Recently, she watched Lisko ride more and more times. She often rode a white horse between the two pastures, so she chose a beautiful whip for him.

What Colt prepared was a signed basketball signed by "Shark" O'Neal, and Lisko also liked this gift very much.

The gift of the rooster is a photo album, which is full of photos of Lisko and Rooster Colt, arranged according to age. After seeing them before and after, I can see the three of them grow up a little bit. It is very memorable, Lisko I don’t even have this photo album myself, it must have been collected and organized for a long time.
