Long Past Dawn

Chapter 3 - 3~ Coffee?

the rest of the drive was spent in silence. All I could think about was the frozen car and that this car was way too damn fancy.

I wouldn't be surprised if it had its own mini-fridge, after all about halfway through the drive it started talking and telling directions without being asked to. Not to mention the control panel with more buttons than I think would be useful in a car. Honestly, I would be less surprised if he said it was from a James Don film. Damn these rich people and their cars.

I was so lost in thought I didn't even realize that we had stopped. Until he turned to me and said, "Come on we're here."

I turn, alarmed, to him. We were only on the road for maybe less than five minutes how the hell did we get here so fast.

"Well, are you going to sit there?"

I get up and out of the car, I didn't realize it earlier but I still have that feeling like I'm floating. Like I could push off and start flying.

I break out of my trance and follow Mr. Wayne into the coffee shop. It's a nice place, it's a little place in a corner of the city I've never been to, mostly because of the price.

I walk in and its a very cute place, black walls, grey wooden flooring, simple black wood tables, and various tropical potted plants are scattered around the shop. This place is way too upscale for me to even think about breathing the air in it.

Mr. Wayne doesn't even bat an eye as he walks into the shop, he just heads straight to the back of the shop where a woman is sitting at a table with a cup of coffee, looking at her wristwatch.

He immediately pulls out the bench across from her and sits down, crossing one leg over the other which somehow gives him the look of a displeased king.

The woman looks up from her watch and at Mr. Wayne. "Six minutes and fifty-eight seconds. Impressive work Bruce."

"Good to see you too Diana."

"I ordered you a black coffee." She says, looking him the eye before turning to me. "I'm sorry, I didn't know what you would like so I just got water. I also never caught your name from Bruce."

"Well, neither did I," Mr. Wayne says, and Diana looks at him like he said something horrible, well maybe he did.

"You never got her name!! And you still brought her here! She probably thinks you kidnapped her! Oh Gods, do you ever learn." The woman yells at him, with only him grunting in reply.

"I-I'm Dawn Amor..... I turned thirteen this year....."

The woman turns to me and smiles, I think I might go blind. Her skin is perfect and her teeth are so white, not to mention her perfect brown-black hair that falls to her mid-waist.

"So nice to meet you, Dawn. My name is Diana, Diana Prince. Please sit down." she says motioning to the seat next to Mr. Wayne. She has an accent, I'm not sure where from.

I gladly take the seat, if not rather awkwardly.

Diana and Mr. Wayne exchange a glance. "So Dawn, I hear that you were almost in an accident this morning...." Diana starts, I've never felt more like a kid being interrogated by parents than right now.

"Y-yeah that's right..."

"I see, but you stopped the car, didn't you?"

"yeah." I meekly say remembering that moment when I thought that my life was about to end for sure.

Diana leans forward in her seat so that her elbows are on the table and her fingers intertwined together. "How did you do it? How did you stop the car?"

This is the one question I really don't want to answer, not because I don't know but because I think I'm starting to know the answer to it. Not to mention that this whole thing is so shady I can't even see through it.

"With all due respect Miss Diana, I'd rather not tell you, this conversation is making me very uncomfortable and after whats happened today I would like to go home."

Diana leans back and sighs, "Okay then, that's all for today."

But Mr. Wayne, who has been silent almost the whole time brings out his phone with a picture and one more question, "Fine, but first tell us this. Do you recognize this? I'll drive you home after you answer."

The picture is of a translucent, white, crystal-like object that seems to be lying on the ground for no real reason. I've never seen anything like it in my life, what material is it even made of? I can't even begin to comprehend what it could be. "Don't know. I've never seen anything like it. What's it made of anyway? I've never seen a crystal like that, where did you find it?"

Diana and Mr. Wayne both sigh before Mr. Wayne gets up and starts walking towards the door. He only stops once and doesn't even turn around, "Come on. I'll drive you home."

I get up from the table and scurry after him. I feel like I only have more questions after that. I turn back before going out of the store to see Diana with her forehead resting on her hands, she looks deep in thought and I can't even begin to imagine what might be going through her head right now. I let the coffee shop door swing shut as the little bell chines to let the world know that I left.

The drive home is even worse than the one going. He only stops the car when we finally get outside my door.

I hover with my hand just by the door before I swallow and turn to Mr. Wayne, "Some weird guy in a lab coat spilled something all over me when I bumped into him this morning. I don't know what it was but for the first minute, it burnt like acid and then all this weird stuff started happening, my body started feeling lighter and I was able to stop the car. I don't know what he spilled on me, I thought he was on something so I didn't think much of it, that's all I know. I swear."

I open the car door and jump out before I can see his reaction. I rush back up my steps and open the door, completely unaware that this wouldn't be the last time I would be hearing from either Bruce Wayne or Diana Prince or any of the other people that they knew. This was only the very start of it all.
