Long Past Dawn

Chapter 43 - 41~ Themyscira

I breathe in, maybe this will be a turning point, maybe things will change. "I said I'll go," I say, "I'll go to Themyscira."

Or that's what I said..... Right now as we're flying over the widespread ocean I'm starting to re-think my choice.

I remember the shock I had when I saw Wonderwoman's invisible jet, sure I heard rumors that she had an invisible jet but I thought they were only rumors.

I shake away my thoughts and look ahead, no going back now, up ahead it seems as if there's nothing there except the deep ocean below us and the high blue sky up above. It almost feels peaceful.

"We'll be there soon," Wonderwoman says, answering my unspoken question as I put my chin on my palm.

As I stare out at the open water surrounding us my mind drifts back to us leaving.

I'm a little shaken from seeing Wonderwoman's jet for the first time but damn it's f.u.c.k.i.n.g cool.

I sigh, everything is moving so fast, I thought we might leave in a couple of days but apparently we need to leave today. I roll my eyes as I remember how Wonderwoman said I didn't need to take anything with me, but little does she know I'm sneaking in a few boxes of my hair dye. I'm not letting my hair go back to what it was.

I shiver as the cold wind passes over me, right now we're at the back of the warehouse on what seems to be a landing strip. Damn these superheroes and their expensive bases.

I stuff my fists into the pocket of my hoodie in an attempt to warm them up. I have no idea how long it will take us to get there but I just hope it's heated in the jet.

Everyone seems to be gathered to see me off, even Question is here, which is strange since I haven't seen or spoken to him much.

Stephen steps forward and I can see the conflict on his face, I can't help but wonder what he'll be doing while I'm gone.

"Hey," I say awkwardly, we haven't spoken much since well.....

"Hey," He replies, giving me a grin.

"You'll be ok without me here?" I ask with a bit of a laugh.

Stephen looks over his shoulder at Batman who is currently talking with Wonderwoman and Superman, "Yeah... I think they'll be able to keep me busy."

"And you won't forget about me will you?" I ask with a sly grin.

Stephen laughs and his curly brown locks fall into his face which he then pushes out of his eyes in a single motion, "Don't think that you can get rid of me in only three months."

I laugh too, it feels strange, laughing when I'm about to leave... It feels good to laugh. "I would never imagine it," I reply, my spirits lifting by the second.

We stand in companionable silence for a moment before Wonderwoman walks over, her voice is quiet and calm, "It's time to go now, Dawn."

I nod and look at Stephen, he opens his arms for a hug. I rest my chin on his shoulder as his arms wrap around me. "See you in three months?" I ask, it feels nice to be hugged like this.

Stephen laughs before letting me go so I can see his face, "See you in three months."

I turn to walk with Wonderwoman towards the jet, my hair whipping in the wind that seems to pick up by the second. I'm about to step up into the jet when I turn around, they're all there. I smile as I think of what might happen in these three months, but what I do know is that they have my back. I have a place to be, and just like Black Canary said, I'll fight to keep it.

I turn back to the jet, my fingers trailing over the cool metal as I step up into the jet after Wonderwoman.

And so ends the flashback. I snort at myself for the thought of a flashback, what's done is done after all.

I look back out over the wide expanse of water and am surprised to find that I can actually see land, and as we get closer to it I can start to make ou buildings on the island, there are even some small things about the size of ants that I assume are the people.

I can't hold back my gasp as I look at the island, it looks like something out of a greek historical drama.

I hear Wonderwoman chuckle, "Welcome to Themyscira, Dawn."

I look opened mouthed as we get closer to the island and buildings become clear, things that looked like ants and bushes are transformed into people and olive trees.

It's a beautiful sight to see, I look at the people. They're everywhere, some walk along the beach, some ride horses, some just seem to be walking around, some hold baskets in their arms, some even seem to be fighting. The whole place is just full of life.

It takes a moment but then it clicks, so far I haven't seen any men on this island.

I'm about to think deeper about it when something catches my eye, a group of children are playing far below us, my heart aches at the sight of them laughing and playing without a care far below me, I hate myself for wondering if they'll ever know half the pain I know.

By the time I've snapped out of my thoughts, we're already descending into a large green flied. The long blades of grass blow in every direction and I see a group of women waiting for the jet to land at one end of the field, they too fit perfectly into the island, their clothes look like those right out of a drama. They look like warriors.

I barely feel it when the jet touches down on the ground. Wonderwoman turns around in her seat at the front to look at me, "You ready?"

I see the concern in her eyes, she really does care about me. I nod in reply.

We step out of the jet and the grass comes up just past my ankles. I look up from the dark green blades to the group of women, they haven't moved since I saw them when we were in the air.

As we get closer I can make out the features of the woman standing at the head of the group, she has the air of a queen, her blonde hair framing her face, she stood tall with a fur cloak trailing behind her, and her face is beautifully chiseled, she's the type of beautiful that makes you wonder what they look like when they smile.

Wonderwoman bows her head slightly in acknowledgment but the woman looks at me, her clear blue eyes seem to see right through me. For a second I feel as if recognition flashes across her face before it's back to what it was, after a moment she speaks, "Te invenies hic pacem."
