Lord Of Blood

Chapter 9 - Obvious

Seras and Linus were walking side by side after arriving at the manor and Seras still had her head somewhat cast down.

"Are you still thinking about what happened?", asked Linus again.

She looked over to him and remained silent.

"Listen, if you can´t accept what you have become, it is alright. Denial is a natural emotion that makes you human..." Even Linus could see parallels in his own behavior.

First, he didn't want to live because he saw no use for it. His life was without meaning. The very moment he died, he was not given that chance.

Things went not according to his understanding and that infuriated him in return - seeking revenge. Showing denial and not accepting the outcome that he may have become a puppet for those celestials.

Then after that, the anger intensified by being denied a quick death by Alucard which resulted in his own bargaining that he would use the last chance in this world and get back at Alucard only to realize it is in vain.

That is because his very first motive was to simply die.

Now somehow he accepted where he is and what he became in this world. He decided that he would play the game for the time being.

Becoming stronger and then use that power to pry his way back and demand answers.

"You should think more like this: If we didn't help out and killed that kindred, then it would have become worse. For her and everyone else. She would have killed more innocent people in her bloodl.u.s.t. Remember that she was probably a young vampire and didn't know how to actually blend in and restrain herself."

He continued on while observing Seras´s reaction.

"We probably gave her salvation with doing so..."

After those words, Seras actually frowned.

"How do you know that is the case? What about me then? Do I need to be put down as well as soon as I start going insane?" Seras was actually angry now. "I already feel like that...losing my sanity with the things I have to change now..."

Linus looked at her and squinted his eyes. "You chose this, Seras...She...could well have done the same. It is still mercy to kill someone and free them before that individual kills innocent people while being driven mad by an insatiable hunger."

He grabbed her hand and showed her healed wound. "If you keep denying that you are different now, then you chose to become a monster that will not even have the smallest resemblance to a human. The only right choice now is to have a moral code to only feed when hungry so that you may not hunger and do something you may regret even more."

Linus let go of her hand and started to walk again. Seras clenched her fist. "Why are you so calm about this? Are you not worried about it at all?"

That got Linus to stop his steps and he chuckled. He looked back at her and a sinister grin appeared on his face. "I am just seeing the good things about it. This game even starts to get interesting. So many new things to learn about this world we live in. "

"But drinking blood..." Seras pouted her cheeks a little and got fl.u.s.tered seeing his expression.

"Huh? What about it?", asked Linus now. "It is just a change of a food source. Humans also consume animals and no one complains about that."

"..."

"Ah, I think I know what you are thinking about...Whoever said we need to bite people? With our modern technology, we could always get our hands on blood bags. I am sure Integra already prepared that for us after mentioning not attacking innocent people and all that..."

"...I am afraid that I may lose something very important. And I feel like you already lost it." Her blue eyes pierced him and he could see her conviction in her words.

"..." That got Linus to stop talking and thinking in silence.

He looked away from her and started walking again. Was she right with her words? He didn't feel different...

No, he was different. He nearly questioned his own advice. But even normal humans can lose what she meant the moment their lives are at stake. And when given the chance to live, they will choose that.

Humans especially can be monsters with unimaginable atrocity.

"Hey, Seras?"

"...Yes?"

"What is up with that uniform by the way? I refrained from mentioning it before but those stockings are a weird choice and that short skirt...Is white your normal color that you chose to wear?" Linus grinned and simply disregarded the topic they were discussing before.

Linus decided to never mention that again. With time she will come to accept this as well.

"Huh!?" Those questions were so out of the blue that it caught her off guard. She even blushed and tried to fix her uniform with no avail. "T-That is the clothing they gave me... They said it is what every female operator wears here..."

"And there are how many?" He chuckled at the obvious shenanigans Seras was going through. He actually wondered who exactly was the one that ordered her to wear these clothes. Was it Alucard? Maybe Walter? Or could it even have been Integra?

"Even Integra seems to wear suits...But that does make you wonder how she would look like with your clothing."

Now Seras grumbled and looked at her clothing in a clearly much different way. Linus could even see her making her upper rack somewhat more comfortable.

"Is it really that s.l.u.tty?", asked Seras now.

That surprised Linus and he looked at her with both brows raised.

"Well, I would call it extravagant and s.e.xy. Something you would more likely see in those role-playing scenarios...But...Yes, I guess?" He could only tell the truth. Her clothing was just too obviously tailored with that picture in mind.

And who has the most satanic mind? Yes, Alucard. So his money would probably be spot on that he is the one behind her outfit and that Harkonen gun she gets later.

Now Seras was biting her lower lip and frowning. At least it seems her mind was now distracted by something else.
