20 Chapter 20 Old Man

"I don't know, I should be able to check the rank now that it's in my inventory" Alex immediately opened his status screen and tapped on inventory.

"Huh!!" Alex's jaws dropped as he looked at the rank of the daggers.

[Demon blade - Ordinary]

"Is it of high rank?" Gabriel asked as he saw Alex's face.

"It's the lowest rank..." Alex frowned his face.

"What! I thought you said it's called Demon blade, how can something like that be of low rank" Gabriel said.

"Can we see it?" Max asked.

Alexander reached into his inventory and brought out the blade, the two of them looked at the blade and the design and were surprised.

"A blade like this is supposed to be of high rank, how come this is just ordinary" Max shook his head and handed Alex back the weapon.

Alex threw the weapon back into his inventory planning to see it when he exit the newbie village.

The three of them walked out of the house and looked around, and none of the NPC looked at them suspiciously so they walked towards the forest.

[The bridge to exit the newbie village is at the end of the forest, the forest is very large so there were many routes to exit the newbie village.]

[Each of the routes led you to a different location but close by. After you exit the newbie village, a barrier is placed on you for an hour, within that hour even if you fall into a volcano you won't burn, so use that time well.]

[After the hour is up, you would be given a task to complete, if you complete the task a special reward is given to you, and there is no penalty if you fail to complete the task.]

"This is really nice, so we'll have a one-hour countdown to do whatever we want, we can challenge a high-level player," Gabriel said as he looked at the information from the system.

"You can't know if a player is high-leveled or not, once we exit the newbie village we wouldn't be able to see each other names or stats," Max said.

"That's how it's supposed to be, if we can see each other names and stats, people would turn against themselves and fight to the death," Alex said.

"Another important piece of information, killing a player is very risky," Max said and the two of them stopped.

"How..."

"When you kill a player, your location, name, and stats are revealed to all the players around there and a bounty would be placed on your head, so everyone would be hunting you," Max said.

"So when we exit the newbie village, killing a player would turn everyone against you" Gabriel was surprised.

"That explains a lot, if a rule like that isn't put in order, players would kill each other till everyone is dead," Alex said.

"But still that doesn't solve the problem, if after 20 minutes no one succeeds in killing that player, a special reward is given to that player..."

"This is really tricky, if you kill someone and survive you get a special reward, then everyone would want the special reward then" Gabriel sneered.

"If you think you can survive that, then try killing a player...the world of Nova Online may be big enough to contain half of the real world, do you think you can escape 1 billion players who are struggling to find coins, equipment, and loots, I don't think that's possible"

"We have arrived," Alex said.

In front of them was a bridge with a blue portal at the end of the bridge, an old man was sitting there fishing.

"That man is a special NPC" Max muttered.

"How is he special?" Alex and Gabriel asked.

"Sometimes, he collects little coins from players and gives them valuable items or rewards, look closely, there's a bag beside him, that's where he keeps all the valuable items," Max said.

"So how can we collect it?"

"I don't know, maybe we need to make an impression or ask him something..."

The three of them walked over to the man and the man looked at them, the man didn't say anything and after a while, he turned back and continued fishing.

"Hi..." Alex said and the Man turned around again.

"Hi there traveler, give me something valuable and I would give you something valuable," the old man said.

"I have a weapon" Max quickly said.

"No...I was talking to him" the man pointed to Alex.

"Huh...I have coins, that's the most valuable item I have on me" Alex said.

"That's not it, I need something more valuable and you have exactly what I need," the old man said.

"Do you have anything else?" Gabriel asked Alex.

"Apart from the coins I have, I only have my dagger and that ordinary weapon I found," Alex said to Gabriel.

"Do you want my dagger" Alex brought out his blunt dagger from his inventory and handed it to the man but he refused to collect.

"I see something more valuable..."

"Then this weapon" Alex brought out the Demon blade and showed it to the man.

"Yes...this...I want this, give it to me immediately" the man shouted.

"Hey, I'm going to give it to you, hold on a sec, I thought this is ordinary quality, how is this blade my most valuable item," Alex asked himself.

"Just give it to him, he's going to give you something better," Max said.

"What are you going to give me in return?" Alex asked.

"What do you desire?"

"I want a weapon of mythical quality" Alex quickly replied.

"That's too big for a common dagger, I would give you a weapon of Epic quality, how's that"

"Sorry, I think I'm going to hold onto this" Alex threw the blade back in his inventory and walked towards the portal when the man stopped him.

"How about I give you something more valuable" the man smiled as he spoke.
