My Goalkeeping System

394 There Is A Chance

After having Unique FC players gather around him to plead their case, the referee finally decided to go check VAR.

"Looks like he's decided to go check VAR," Steve said.

"Yeah, while he's going to do that, how about we take a look at that footage again, Steve?"

"It's a good thing he decided to go check VAR," Dave muttered from his goalpost.

<You know this could work for or against you>

'And what do you have to say? You should be able to know if Fredinho was offside or not.'

<Let the referee come back I want to see what decision VAR made first>

The players from both teams and fans waited anxiously for the referee to return and it didn't take long for that to happen as the referee could be seen making his way to the pitch now.

"The referee's coming back, what's going to be his decision?"

As soon as the official entered the pitch, he blew his whistle before pointing to the kick-off spot.

And after that, the review screen above the stadium changed to a screen with the words, 'No offside' being displayed there now.

"They're giving the goal, Unique FC are one goal up!" Jim exclaimed.

As soon as that decision was made, Minino jumped on Fredinho and pulled him down.

The guest team went back to their celebration as the home players bit their lower lips in frustration.

"That was the right decision to make, it looked like Fredinho was offside but Green here kept him on side right until the ball got to him, I guess the linesman didn't see him but it's a good thing justice has been served."

<I guess it was a goal after all>

'Huh? What do you mean you guess, did you think it was not going to be awarded?'

<I never said that, you guys are leading now, don't get distracted by me>

'You're trying to change the topic.'

<There is no topic, just stay focused>

'Fine.'

The match continued with Dave mostly chilling at the back because Zetoro United just couldn't figure out a way to get past their defense.

It didn't take long before they went back to terrorizing the home team but scoring goals didn't seem to be working out fine for them because Zetoro United's defense was unsurprisingly good.

They knew how good their defense was from the couple of times they've played against them but that was then, they didn't have a team as good as this then so they believed they could come up with something.

Another good thing was that they now had a good defense with a good goalkeeper which meant that the chance of this ending like one of their previous battles was minimal.

The match had just entered the fortieth minute now when Zetoro United won a counterattack opportunity after stopping a chance from Unique.

Unfortunately, the player who received the ball at the center of the pitch seemed to have overhit it unaware that Dave had already closed up on him.

The goalkeeper got to the ball and without even thinking twice about it he sent the ball flying back where it came from.

Nobody really expected anything from that ball including Zetoro United's goalkeeper who was glued to a spot as the ball hit the crossbar before flying over for a goal kick.

"What the heck was that?!" Jim exclaimed.

"I had no idea that was going to come that close," Jim said.

That chance caused quite a stir-up among the fans, even some Zetoro United fans seemed impressed.

"That was quite a risky move by Dave moving far away from his goalpost like that but I guess it's not really the first for him and boy that ball was so close to going in," Jim exclaimed.

<You really had no intention of sending that toward the goalpost, did you?>

'How do you expect me to think clearly when that guy was almost on the ball? But I wish that went in.' He said subconsciously as he quickly made his way back to his goalpost.'

"It's surprising how a goalkeeper can be that accurate without even trying, I would have said it was by chance but this isn't exactly the first time." Steve expressed.

The match continued till the forty-fifth minute with none of the sides being able to come up with anything.

Right in the second minute of extra time, Unique FC won a free kick right at the edge of the box.

Obviously, Mateo was going to be the one to take the free kick and he was standing over the ball now.

"The first half is almost over, will Mateo be able to put this one away and give his team a two-goal lead?"

After making sure that everything was ready, the referee blew his whistle and now it was up to the winger to try and put it away.

The winger had already weighed all the options right before the referee blew his whistle and now it was time to do what he did best.

He slowly took two steps backward before he quickly closed up on the ball.

Almost everyone was expecting him to go from above, but he decided to go from below.

The goalkeeper seemed to be the only one who was somewhat expecting him to go from below as he dived toward the ball right in time to send it rolling out with the tip of his glove.

"Oh, he came so close."

As soon as that ball went over the line, the referee blew his whistle twice to bring the first half to an end.

"Guess that was the last kick of the first half," Steve commented.

"Unique FC totally dominated this half and if not for the extra effort Zetoro United put at the back, the guests would be at least two or three goals up by now," Jim said.

"Ending the first half only one goal down means that Zetoro United still has a chance to get back into the game, it seems unlikely with the way they've played so far but there's a chance, this is football after all."

Norman didn't really have much to tell the players during the half time break, this was one of those matches where he was surprisingly calm because he knew there was nothing for him to worry about.

The players rested for a while before it was time for them to start heading back to the pitch to continue the match.

"Welcome back everyone, the second half is about to kick off as we can see the players making their way to the pitch now," Jim said as the players made their way to the pitch.

Unique FC started the match from the kick-off spot in the first half which meant that Zetoro United were going to be the ones to do it in this half.

"I know I said Zetoro United still have a chance to get back into the game but for that to happen, they'll have to step up their game big time or Unique FC stops being serious and the latter is very unlikely to happen." Steve expressed.

The match had just kicked off at the signal off the referee's whistle as Zetoro United suddenly began to move the ball around with Unique FC players chasing after it.

They were doing quite well in keeping hold of the ball compared to the first half, they would have already lost the ball now with the pressure Unique FC was putting on them.

The central midfielder with the name Freyan written above the number sixteen on the back of his jersey got hold of the ball and just before Ferran could get to him, he sent the ball rolling to the right winger who had the name Dust written above the number ten on the back of his jersey.

Dust got hold of the ball and moved a little down the wing with it, but just before Roland could get to him, he sent the ball flying into the box.

The striker really got close to getting his head to it, but Adolf was right on cue to send it flying over the bar with a header.

"Good defending by Adolf but now they have a corner kick to deal with, Zetoro United's first corner kick of the game," Jim commented.

Freyan picked up the ball and went to the spot waiting for the referee's whistle and as soon as he heard it, he closed up on the ball and sent it flying into the box.

The ball flew toward the left side and hit Norman before the wing-back before he sent it flying out of the box.

Something seemed to have happened there as the Zetoro United players there raised their hand and the referee who saw it didn't need to be told as he blew his whistle before pointing to the penalty spot.

"What's going on? The referee's giving a penalty kick."

"A penalty?" Dave muttered with a confused expression on his face.

Unique FC players weren't happy with that decision as they gathered around the referee demanding an explanation.
