On The Court

Chapter 17 - Hospital Day

I come up to the ambulance and try to get in after asking the medics if it was possible for me to come. I would have to fill in papers because we're not family related, but I'm okay with that. The medics start their ambulances' sirens as we go through the streets to get to the hospital faster. I finish filling the form as we arrive in the driveway of the hospital. They take her in the the room of the emergency section that are for severe allergic reaction. I don't remember Andy telling me she was allergic. I try not to think about it and stay optimistic that they will get her fully recovered in no time. I thank the paramedics after asking them what it was.

"It was an allergic reaction to unknown substances. The only allergy she had out of this substance was to nuts and we've already made sure it wasn't the cause of her stroke. We're very optimistic that she will recover entirely and this accident will leave no prints on her every day health." one of the paramedics answer.

"Thank you very much for your help. If it wasn't for you, I don't know if she would be alive right now."

"It's our work to save loved people. I would love to see you again sometime but I'd rather not see you on an other of my shifts." I agree as he leaves and lets me stare at an empty spot in the hall.

I wake up in the waiting room, right in my seat. I look at the clock. I t shows 10 A.M. I only slept 8 hours even with the amount of the time I've been here. I couldn't sleep until at least 2 A.M. I remember I have a tennis practice today. I go to Andy's room after asking a receptionist if I could see her. She is awake.

"Hey." I say softly.

"Hey."

There is a long silence before we continue talking.

"I'm sorry." I tell her with guilt I have filling up my voice.

"Why?" She asks me.

"I should've been there with you when it happened." I speak out after holding up hardly the tears that would crawl all over my face if I didn't.

"It wouldn't have changed anything. I would've choked anyways." Andy comforts me.

"Do you know what caused your allergic reaction?" I ask changing the subject to avoid crying.

"I have an idea but I'm not a hundred percent sure that's it. There was mayonnaise in my sandwich. But it didn't taste that much like mayo, it had the taste of mustard but it had the same color as mayo. It was very weird..." Andy explains.

"Do you know when you can get out?" I ask her.

"By the end of the day tomorrow it should be okay." She says with a happy voice.

"I'll let you rest a little if you need it..." I tell her not so she feels obligated to stay awake.

"I'm fine." she says.

There's a new moment of silence crashing in the room.

"Hey, don't you have a tennis training today?" Andy cuts the awkwardness.

"Yes, but if you want I can stay here. I don't mind." I say shyly.

Andy is my best friend. She's the only family I got left. But my tennis career won't build up like this.

"Don't miss your training for me you silly. I would hate it if I were you." Andy tells me.

"Are you sure you don't mind if I go?" I ask just to be sure.

"Sure I'm sure!" Andy says laughing a little.

"Then I should probably head out in a couple minutes." I say.

"Go get prepared!" Andy laughs again.

After a fast 'Goodbye' that was thrown in the air to Andy, I get out of the hospital with all the stuff I brought in. My cup of money and my tennis stuff. I let Andy's guitar besides her bed.

Once at the academy, I go change in the bathroom of the place and meet Paul at our usual spot.

"Hey Paul." I say.

"Oh there you are!" He says. "Let's get started. Follow me.
