Operation At Arms Online

Chapter 4 - Humans

Opening up his computer terminal was exactly the first thing Connor did to find information about the game.

Connor swept through online forums and webpages about the game he would delve into. He did a good background check of the game and is more convinced about its lucrative capabilities but also more enticed because of its stunning visuals and deep and well-thought lore.

A few years ago, Connor's life when it comes to playing MMOs is a big deal. He would surely understand and grasp the essentials of the game and would aspire to beat it and reign in it. Fantasy Realm and World War to mention. But this one is of a higher and newer experience for him since it is a Virtual MMO were it seems the virtual world is seamlessly and perfectly assimilated to the real world and best player experience is ensured or so as the Company that made the game promised.

"Let's just stop in here and see if I can afford the game first" thought Connor.

Games like this sure don't come at a cheap price. Connor even thought of having the chance of availing the game for free but he could not see anything in the Skynet of any tournaments or promos available for the game to be free of price.

Soon, Connor checked the price of the game in its official website and his eyes widened in shock.

"What? 350 EXO credits for this game? And only the game? I can't even afford that!" said Connor.

"Who are you talking to?" questioned Connor's sister.

"Nevermind. Don't mind me sister it's just nothing"

Connor checked his wallet if he could get anything out of it. 1000 EXO credits. It hasn't been a long time since his father died and their money is not that low but will eventually hit rock bottom. There family managed to scr.a.p.e by for the last few months with a lot of saving of money to do for it to last a little more longer until his mother would find a job.

Connor decided for a full 1 hour about the consequences of his decisions, not to mention the 350 is only of the game's price not including the gear that would be used for the game to be playable. Connor made a resolution and decided to follow through it until the end. He would buy the game.

He stayed positive despite what happened to them. After all, he is the new father of the family that would stand for them.

"350 credits a little, if the results are astronomical then no worries, right?"

All the equipments needed for the game to be playable costs around another 1000 EXO credits. Connor nearly cried because of the exorbitant price of all these goodies. He even chipped out another 350 EXO credits from their family bank account for the gaming equipment with the permission from his mother but never escaped a little talk from her regarding to where he would use it. He made up some concocted excuse to cover up for what he would do with the money.

The equipments consists of a headgear with only one convex shaped Brunian glasses but with a semi-sharp end and biphenopolymer holders. An omni-directional treadmill for moving purposes and 45XS haptics suit for the real life assimilation.

These days, package transportation systems are more advanced and parcels are expected to arrive in a very little amount of time to the appointed destination. In as little as 1 hour depending on your location, you can expect your package to arrive. Connor received his order no more than 30 minutes since their house is located 30 km towards the center.

Connor managed to sneak the gaming equipments to his room while her mother is still making dinner.

"Connor, dinner's almost ready" reminded Lauren.

"Ok mom I'll just be here in my room" answered Connor.

The developers made this game with the dearest gamers in mind to have the most imaginable and grandest gaming experience. Happy Playing! This is the line said at the end of the gaming guide as Connor read it.

Connor finished setting up the gaming equipments and he is finally good to go. He pushed the hexagonally shaped button of the small black cube that connects to all the gaming equipment wirelessly. The button and the equipment emanated a dull reddish green glow as it started.

He wore the headgear and flash of lights started to appear in the glass interface and a HUD appeared similar to all MMOs when starting up.

Connor suddenly felt that he is somewhat inside some world but still inside his own.

A blinking phrase of white colored words in a black background flashed in his screen.

>

And Connor did so. He tried to click on the phrase but he couldn't. He spoke the phrase and it seemed to work.

Flashes of bright and vivid colors flashed on his screen and he seemed to forget he is still in his room.

He is now in a room but to be exact it is like emptiness or the void he is facing against when suddenly a big panoramic screen flashed in his front and began narrating the typical welcoming lore of the game. He seemed to be awe and excitement because of the level of realism the game exhibits and the itch of every MMO gamer is what he feels when starting every new adventure of some sort.

< Welcome, brave soul. > said the narrator is a serene but of a deep voice like a pit without an end.

< Ah, once peaceful and evergreen Solace. Filled with the most grandeur and splendid nature and people one could dream of. Peace and harmony once roamed this beautiful planet but…>

< One day, a menacing and horrendous looking horde of warsh.i.p.s came to our way. Aura of darkness emanated from the horde and I felt something wrong is going to happen. The apparent leader came to light and seem to negotiate with our Supreme Leader and we, naturally, sought peace so we agreed to be their allies and would not pursue anything more than that. >

< But they reverted on their word and bloodshed incurred. They Betrayed us. They are all vile animals not keeping their word and attacked us when we are not looking. Their faces seemed to be full of wicked happiness when they slaughtered us one by one…>

Blah blah blah this is going on for too long…

The one doing the narrating part is a man in tattered and worn out battle suit and toned muscular physique. One look into his eyes and Connor felt that this man have seen death countless times and the sensation of numbness finally landed on him but the eyes are the windows to the soul and Connor could even tell that kind of feeling even though this is just a game.

A game.

It seems to be as time passes by Connor cannot contain the sense of excitement.

Finally, when the time for the narration came to an end, the part of the gamer to took part with arrived. The selection of the whatnots or so they say your destiny to tread all throughout the game.

The panoramic screen flashed once again and showcased 3 parts. First was the race, second was the class selection and third was starting region.

There are four core races that are available in the starting phase of the game and others will be introduced later in the expansions, as well as the classes and starting regions.

< Humans >

[the most versatile of all the races. Can be successful at anything as it d.e.s.i.r.es but as the millennium unfolds they are of different motives. That is what makes them a little less successful. Balanced stats and has a random chance(81%) of gaining a plus attribute and a little chance(0.025%) of gaining a special advantage of any sort.]

< Deimosines >

[well versed in thinking and concocting things to bring about the next latest technological advancements in their field. Would always sort to peace talks as they are beings of higher intelligence but have a tendency to be aggressive. Stats tend to closely steep towards intelligence and the second in place is agility. Has a random chance(75%) of gaining a plus attribute and a little chance(0.025%) of gaining a special advantage of any sort.]

< Wargonths >

[Likes to raid and wage wars almost all of the time. Brutes and Grunts are all what they are typically but always be wary of their power. They also like to be festive occasionally. Strength is the focus of this race with the second in place is dexterity. Has a random chance(75%) of gaining a plus attribute and a little chance(0.025%) of gaining a special advantage of any sort. ]

< Pfalswonns > /fal-swons/

[Fast and agile beings always on alert. Most of them are bounty hunters of some sort and it is just in their blood to be that way. They tend to have the odds to be always in their favor because of their fast and good decision making skills. Primary attribute is dexterity and secondary is intelligence. Has a random chance(75%) of gaining a plus attribute and a little chance(0.025%) of gaining a special advantage of any sort. ]

Connor thought for a while and eventually picked human. It would seem that being a human makes you a jack of all trades but he is holding it to that fact that humans can be successful at anything while maintaining balanced stats and that seemed enough if faced in any situation if the player is wise enough. Being wise is not a plight for Connor.
