Chapter 27 - Predestined Hero!

The third being who came into the room looked just like the two before. He too had golden hair, his hair was shorter and more curly than others I saw. His ears were as sharp and long as the woman's. Only thing that was different in him was color of his eyes and the mark on his forehead. He had purple eyes and he had the drawing of a tree marked on his forehead.

With a smile he asked me, "What's your name?"

I was so shocked that I could understand him that I didn't answer him for few minutes. Meanwhile he himself didn't stop he kept saying something in a different languages. When I discovered that I hurriedly answered by saying, "My name is Arthur!"

Hearing my answer he stopped and in my language he said, "I'm called Ethan. So you can speak in Draconian language. I hope you had good rest but right now I want to ask you something. Why are you here? And why were you chased by the Wyvern!"

Looking at the thing that my mom gave me I slowly brought it towards Ethan and said, "My mom told me to give this to the elves! I don't know why I was chased but they killed my....." I couldn't continue saying anything because it was just too painful. When I left my mom I could hear her pained cry. She was in danger because she wanted to protect me.

Please mom can you be safe. Please!

...

Ethan slowly took parchment from the child and opened it. After reading its contents he made a curious face and turned towards me.

Looking at me he said, "Master! Do you remember fighting Dragon King?"

Dragon King? When he was just an infant I remember fighting him. Looking at Ethan I answered by saying, "Yea, is there connection between my fight and our current situation?"

Ethan gave the parchment to me and said, "Yes, It does! This parchment is a letter and also a research of one person. The research is about strengthening the body of living beings to an unimaginable level. Using it weak humans could get bodies as strong as the ones that dragons have!"

Confused I asked about the letter, "What about the letter?"

Ethan hesitated but after thinking for a bit he said, "Letter is a provokative letter towards you. The person who wrote the letter in it said that you have to use this method to become stronger. He wants you to be stronger because only that way you could have a small chance to beat the Dragon King. If you don't use it you will die before you even know of it. Letter talks about how the Dragon King is far stronger than what he was before and that right now nobody could kill him. This whole letter just talks about how the Dragon king is the greatest!"

It was interesting letter I thought and asked Ethan, "Who wrote the letter?"

Ethan answered, "The child's father, someone named Uther Pendragon!"

When I heard of that name my body momentarily stopped. Looking at Ethan I asked, "Pendragon?"

Ethan nodded and said, "You may not know of this but Pendragon is a title given by the Dragon King himself. The people with this title are the most loyal subordinates of the Dragon King. They have highest status in Dragon Kingdom."

I kept repeating the title to myself and looked at the child that was crying on my bed. Arthur Pendragon was most likely the most widespread name on old Earth. Many books and other literary works were created about him. Even during apocalypse many people knew of him.

King Arthur was a legendary British leader who, according to medieval histories and romances, led the defence of Britain against Saxon invaders in the late 5th and early 6th centuries. The details of Arthur's story are mainly composed of folklore and literary invention. He was a made up fictional character in old Earth but his fame was compared to the great leader of the past such as Alexander the Great or Genghis Khan. In front of me was a living legend.

Looking at Ethan I asked, "Why did Uther Pendragon send his child here?"

Ethan made a weird face and said, "According to the letter Uther sent his son here because he betrayed Dragon King. If he left his son there he would've been killed by the Wyverns. The letter talks about how when Uther fights Dragon King his son would be killed by envious Wyverns. Wyverns were envious of Uther for many years because of how much attention he got from the King! And when Uther fights the Dragon King his son would be defenseless!"

"But why did he sent his child here?" I asked.

Ethan answered by saying, "Uther was confident that only we wouldn't kill his son. For him we were the safest choice. Because with his son he sent his research papers. He was confident we would use his findings and protect his son because he looks just like one of us!"

I took a deep breath and agin looked at Arthur. Of course I wouldn't kill him because he is most likely really important. This new Earth is shaped by my memories and the world development reflects my memories. Just like in my memories Arthur is someone who is the key. He is one of the most important individuals in this world. He was Predestined to be a great hero and I wouldn't want one to bear the consequences of killing such an important person.
