Overcoming The Beast

Chapter 2 - New start (1)

In the Heavenly Elemental World, on the edge of the Continent of Fire in the Land of Desolation there was a town. It had no name. Built in the wilds, only the occasional runaway to visit, it was the epitome of a living ghost town.

The opaque Sandy winds and dust devils, disrupting the tranquility of the silent sand, begged to hide the town from travelers. Most wouldn't journey this far in but for those who did only the- you could say blessed- found it.

Entering the town you would see the streets crowded with man and beast: wolves, tigers and even flying fish! That was not the most striking feature about the settlement; no, a tall red building, prominently set at the center of the town dwarfing the structures around it. The land mark had a huge nest of fire blanketing the roof and an even bigger ball of fire levitating above it, the fire suffused warmth into the streets, and was more of a beacon of hope that protected the city from the sandy winds and imposing weather

The tower was surrounded by two walls, one circling the town, made of sandstone and brick while the inner wall carved with intricate designs and dressed in fire, placed as a sign of status then a measure for safety. It had four men standing at the gate. All of them carrying a sword. Each of them had a wolf, constantly looking around sitting beside them. With yellow eyes and groomed fur, the wolves looked well tamed and friendly, but none of the people passing by dared to look them in the eyes as they knew they were only hiding their ferocity. The men wore a uniform of a red shirt with black pants with an emblem- a bird on fire reminiscent of a Phoenix- on their shirt's c.h.e.s.t pocket.

Behind the wall, there were houses sparsely spreading from the lighthouse like structure. In a house at the furthest corner bordering the back wall, you could see a boy sitting on a tree branch. He sat with his back against the trunk and laid relaxed as he stared at the floating fire between the glistening orange leaves. The boy had short black hair and black eyes. However his youthfulness opposed his deathly pale skin.

The boy closed his eyes for moment but when he opened them again he changed. His eyes if before were a clear pool of water, soft and pure, now had turned murky and pitch black. His facial expression was that of ice, the way he carried himself changed. He looked like a new person from the youthfulness to ageing in a second.

The boy looked around taking in the new environment. He then thinks, "I was killed. That mutt really went for the throat like I always said." The boy laughed at the end.

"so the last thing I remember was... drowning in silver?" his expression switched off like a light switch.

After trying to contract the egg I was killed by that wolf, I noticed a glow on its forehead, it should be a control seal. It looks like it was formed by someone with a lot of skill as even I didn't notice it until it activated. That despicable wolf would let someone put a control seal on it so it could kill me and die itself- however it is commendable on how it was able to go through with it, I can see why it was the contract beast I had the longest. Still when did it get the control seal?

The boy thought about it, someoene obviously gave it the seal during the time I contracted it. I had the wolf for almost twenty years, the amount of people I fought during that time would be as many as the stars. Even if I cut off everyone I killed, there are still too many people... He gave up on thinking about it as he couldn't reach a conclusion.

The bigger question is where am I? This clearly isn't the dark continent. Everything looks familiar but I don't think I have ever been to place like this before.

Suddenly he grabs his head, his forehead wrinkles. "I kind of understand now. I've gone back in time." The boy whispered in a matter of fact tone, ignoring the impossibility of the situation.

"Odd indeed, I can't tell why but I have my guesses." He then jumps off the tree.

Walking to a door the boy, looked around. He was in a well kept garden. Entering the house he saw a man and a woman talking as they sat on the table. The man had black hair and black eyes similar to the boy. With a height of six feet and a well built body you would not be able to tell he was almost forty years old. The woman had maroon hair and eyes, something rarely seen on the continent.

Near the man's feet a red wolf lied with its eyes closed. Around the room a Butterfly like being flew. It was a pixie. Wings made of fire it left a trail of glitter as it flew. The pixie went up to the boy and said something. The boy ignored that and looked at the wolf.

It reminded him of the gray wolf that beheaded him. Killing intent flares in his eyes. The wolf wakes up and jumps on the floor as it growls at the boy.

"Leon you're here, how was your nap on the tree..." The woman stopped speaking as she looked at the boys cold eyes.

The boy noticing this closes his eyes and smilied as he said "It was great mother, the wind was warm and refreshing I think I'll start taking more naps outside."

He walked up to the wolf with one hand he ruffled it's fur. "Whose a good boy." With the other hand he pressed at the wolf's neck debilitating it. He caught it, flipped it onto its back and rubbed its belly said, "If you wanted a belly rub you should have just said so."

"Good! Come here and have dinner, we already waited enough for you." The middle aged man spoke.

Leon opened his eyes again, this time they went back to how they looked before he awakened his memories.

He left the wolf and ate. The dinner went awkwardly as no one spoke until the boy broke the ice.

"Mom, the food is delicious! I had been starving. Dad you better eat faster or I'll finish all of it before you can even get a second serving."

"This really is good, Sandra! Leon don't you dare finish it."

The woman, Sandra Flamesmith, smiled and said "You dont have to worry I made a lot. This is a new recipe I got from Aunt Reva, she was speaking wonders about it so I had to try it. Looks like she wasn't lying."

Leon and his father stuffed there faces.

"Fine father you win, I can't eat anymore you can have the rest." Leon got up and grabbed his stomach and left the room in defeat.

"Boy, don't think you can ever beat me, hundred years to early. I was eating ten times this amount when you were in diapers." Leon's father, David Flamesmith laughed.

Leon went to his room and locked the door shut. He then opened his window and listened to conversation happening downstairs.

"Honey do you think, that Leon is bit different?"

"Maybe, he was a bit more energetic then usual."

"No, I mean when he entered the room, I looked him the eyes and I felt suffocated like he was grabbing my throat."

"That's strange... I think you must have been imagining it."

"Do you think he's possessed? I've heard rumors..."

"That's impossible, we kept an eye on him the whole night. Those are just rumors. You might be feeling tired, have some rest and we'll continue this in the morning."

"Fine." Sandra got up and left as well.

David waited until she left after which his face turned serious. How could he not notice his son change completely?

"Hopefully we are imagining it..."

Up in his room Leon heard steps towards his room he closed the window, unlocked the door and jumped on his bed.

The door opened "Leon, go to sleep early, the clan is holding a lecture in the morning so you can't be waking up late."

"Sure, mom I'll sleep early."

"Goodnight, if you need anything wake me up okay." She said worryingly.

"Yes mom, I'll do that." Leon said sarcastically.

"Bye." Then his mother left.

Leon sat on his bed. His eyes murderous, "They are already on to me... well I don't really remember how I acted as a child that well. Let's go through the memories of my younger soul."

In Leons body after going back in time he had been sent to the moment he was born. But at the time his body couldn't support his soul so he sealed it. Because of that another soul formed. Now twelve years later his future soul finally woke up. It was much stronger then his younger soul so the future soul sent the younger soul into hibernation. There was a problem, his future soul didn't remember much about his past so it had to go through the younger soul's memories.

My name is Leon Flamesmith, from the Flamesmith clan. Born from Sandra Flamesmith and David Flamesmith. No siblings. Has a weak body and still hasn't awakened the soul book. Looked upon as trash by most of the clan. Only has one friend called Pace Flamesmith.

This are the most basic information I can find out about myself when I was younger.

He crossed his legs and balanced his elbows on his knees, with his eyes closed he stably sat on the bed. He looked at his inner world. He sees a book and a red seed. The thin book was covered in mysterious runes that moved around in a circular motion forming a nonagon with separate circles, all rotating in different directions and speeds, on each of the corners. The runes each blinked between the colours silver and black. This should be the soul book from my past life, it was transferred with my soul. The book was torn and battered. Looked withered without the vibrancy of a normal soul book. It was energy less.

The dull red seed should be the soul seed that will form my second soul book. Its a red-orange color, it should be because my fire affinity had reached a pinnacle in my past life, so my fire affinity should be much higher in this life mutating my soul book of this life to be of the fire element- rather than the mysterious element it was in my past life.

My soul is much weaker right now than it was in my past life at the age of twelve. The book opened at a thought to the first page. The page was silver, and had a big circle with an egg on the center of it. The circle's border was a grimy gray and the inside was filled with mist. The egg was silver, but it was hard to tell as whenever you looked at it the egg would disappear, however it vaguely gave you the sense that it was there.

The book flipped to the next page, it was completely black except for the similar gray bordered circle. The inside of this circle was a stark contrast to the page, an untainted white filled it. There was a black egg in the middle of this circle. This should be the egg I got at the top of the mountain, while the silver egg should be my primal beast from my past life that never hatc... The next moment with a jerk the boy started vomiting blood. Red ivory flowed out. I can't even look at it without my body collapsing on the inside. He spat out more blood. Remaining unfazed the boy wiped the blood off of his mouth and continued with his thoughts.

Awakening the soul book would also mean summoning another primal beast.

Primal beast is the first and only soul beast that is naturally born out of a person's own soul. People can only be born with one. They are usually the main beast summoners choose to cultivate as it can be reborn through the cultivators soul and cannot betray you. It is known to be the element the cultivator is most talented in and has a personality that perfectly corresponds with the cultivator.

I'll have to wait until the awakening ceremony to manifest my other soul book.

"Let's start training I'm too weak. If my parents really do some how think I'm possessed they'll take me to a Light priest. They normally wouldn't be strong enough to do anything but now with my soul not completely combined with my body they'll probably destroy both my souls in attempt of exorcism."

He started absorbing energy from the surrounding. He was practicing the Nine Thrones soul technique. It was a soul technique, the most basic cultivation a summoner needed. It strengthened the soul and allowed the contracting and summoning of more beast then just your primal beast.

Leon had streams of white soul energy fly into his body. Behind him five thrones formed, all of them dull and black. As he absorbed more energy, cracks grew on them, they burst one after the other until none were left.

"I guess I can't start with my old cultivation in the technique, I'll have to do it all again." He started absorbing energy again.

Slowly the outline of an object formed behind him. Leon started to have sweat drip down his brow. When the object finally formed into a throne, Leon stopped cultivating and started gasping for air.

"That's good for day one."

Looking outside he saw that it was already mid night. "I'll go to sleep. This body is too weak to stay up for too long." He then lied on the bed and closed his eyes.
