Overturned Tower

Chapter 5 Heroes

“‘Southern Scenery’ or ‘Bad Day’, which one will be more troublesome?”

Russell asked suddenly.

Praising Russell's keenness, Bad Day nodded appreciatively, patted Russell's head and stood up.

His tall figure cast a thick shadow in front of Russell, and his one mechanical eye reflected an unsettling blue light.

"Those are completely different troubles. One is like a rotten apple, and the other is a beautiful apple soaked in venom."

The hypocritical smile that was always on his face gradually dissipated and faded, and remained like the glare after looking at the sun: "If it were me, I would rather choose the latter."

Russell's ears suddenly twitched.

It was not because of fear, but because he heard very light, tiptoeing footsteps coming from the corridor outside the door.

This should be the accomplice of the head at his feet.

It seems that he has been in this room for a while but has not come out yet, and there is no contact... so he came to check and urge him.

Pretty...professional?

But before Russell could remind Bad Sun that there was someone outside, Bad Sun stretched out a finger and quietly raised it in front of his mouth.

Russell suddenly understood.

Since I can hear it myself, Bad Day should be able to hear it too.

Dogs' hearing is no worse than that of cats.

Bad Sun raised his right hand, showing Russell the "prop" he was holding like a magician.

That's a data chip. Not the complicated chip that everyone uses in the back of their head...but like the data expansion cards used in mobile phones or game consoles.

It is only the size of an index fingernail, marked with orange patterns and lit with green lights.

"Let me teach you a lesson, Russell... This is your first lesson when you come to Happy Island."

Bad Day had not deliberately suppressed the sound, so the footsteps outside suddenly disappeared.

But he just casually inserted it into the chip interface behind his ear.

The azure glimmer at the bottom of his pupils was instantly covered by orange light.

At this moment, the sound of credit card swiping came from the door again.

The security code of the first-class cabin seemed to be nothing - the gangster armed with a violent weapon planned to use the employee card to open the door like the guy before.

Russell looked at the door as calmly as possible, raising his slightly frayed tail high.

He was ready to roll sideways to avoid the bullets if he heard any noise or saw the door open.

However--

A weak wave rolled up Russell's body like static electricity. He immediately felt a tingling sensation on his spine.

"Bang!"

"bump!"

The next moment, Russell clearly heard a series of sounds like exploding glass and a man's cry of pain coming from outside.

"——If you want to kill someone, remember that the best thing to do is to blow up all the surrounding surveillance cameras and cameras first."

As he spoke, he tilted his head slightly and took out the chip behind his ear. And replaced it with another dark green chip.

Although the bad days had not gone away, Russell could still clearly see that the green light of the used chip turned into a flashing red light.

……what is that?

A one-time spell scroll...something like that?

Just then, the door opened.

A masked man with a broken left eyepiece and blood flowing out rushed in together with another well-equipped masked man with curved horns on his head.

Their spiritual characteristics are well hidden, and it is difficult to tell what race they are. Russell was not skilled enough to directly determine the race of the opponent through the horns.

As if prepared beforehand - he immediately lay prone to the side, hiding himself in the shadow of the table that had tilted and fallen.

And the other party did not disappoint Russell.

Although they did not use grenades, they strafed the room as soon as they opened the door.

However, the bullets fired by those two men did not injure Bad Sun who had his back to them at all.

Because a hemispherical barrier covered him and Russell like a shield. Those bullets refracted around him as they approached him - making dense cracks in the reinforced windows of the room. The walls decorated with expensive artworks instantly became riddled with holes. Paintings and sculptures were torn to pieces by the storm of metal.

The next moment, a small hole was broken in the window - the strong suction coming from the outside shattered the glass in an instant, and the room felt like it was hit by a hurricane. Russell subconsciously lay on the ground and grasped the corner of the overturned tea table so that he could lean on the heavy table without being sucked out.

The box that had previously stored the portable shotgun was also sucked out of the window in the wild storm.

Even so, the gunfire did not stop.

Because the two mercenaries obviously knew that the temporary psychic energy obtained by using disposable memory chips would not last too long. The flying height of the airship is not as high as the "civilian airliner" in Russell's memory, so even if the windows are shattered, it will not cause too rapid hypothermia and hypoxia.

But in this case, once shot, the blood will be sucked out.

"…Then, the second point."

Amidst the deafening gunfire and wind, Bad Ri's long white hair flew wildly in the wind.

He turned his back to the gangster and faced the broken window. His calm voice became as soft as a whisper amidst the fierce wind: "If you can't completely hide your existence and leave the scene quietly, then at least be prepared to be able to Evidence to prove your innocence.

"For example, now - when the opponent has used lethal weapons, you can get the power to use cold weapons to fight back unlimitedly. This is the rule that applies to Happy Island.

"And after the other party's behavior has caused an imminent threat to multiple targets...

"Even if you kill the other party, you will not be arrested by the head office, and you will even be rewarded. This is a rule that applies to any empty island."

--rule.

It's just a rule.

The dragon did not allow the elves to issue "real" laws that would apply to everyone. The "Company Law" established by the head office of each island will only take effect among the employees of the head office and the many subsidiaries controlled by the head office.

These mercenaries, who are outlaw gangsters, will not pay attention to them and cannot be sanctioned - after all, they have lost their citizenship rights after losing their identity codes. As long as you are arrested, you can be expelled from the floating island.

Exiled to a land full of radiation and curses, or simply thrown into the sea. Anyway, the ending is the same.

But even so, "killing" without any reason is not allowed.

Let’s get to the bottom of it… In a world without government, country, army, and law.

Everything can only rely on "rules".

Flexible rules. Rigid rules.

Rules that have never changed. Rules that change every day.

Bad Ri took out a section of the knife handle from his chest without haste.

There is no blade or guard, just a short stick and an ordinary handle.

It can't even be called a "broken sword" because it doesn't even have a steel blade and is a completely wooden structure.

It has no lethality from any angle, and its only function seems to be to hypnotize oneself to "hold a weapon."

"Because people would call a person like that...

"--【hero】."

he said softly.

“It is not the head office, not the elves, nor the dragons that grant them the name of ‘heroes’ and grant them the right to absolve themselves of guilt... but the media.

"It's newspapers. It's the public. It's public opinion.

"It is the mouth of the people——

"The head office will never send an execution department to arrest a 'hero'. Instead, it may give the 'hero' a commendation and a generous treatment, making him a star and joining the execution department... as long as he is still a 'hero' .”

Bad Sun said, with a sarcastic smile on his face: "After all, there is such a shortage of heroes in this era.

"You just asked me if I would let you take the blame. My answer is, yes and no.

"—Come and be a hero, Russell."

After saying that, he raised his right hand holding the bladeless sword high.

Not facing the mercenaries behind him.

Instead, he slashed at Russell with one strike.
