Professor Dovahkiin

Chapter 5 - Ch. 5 Making Money

It turns out Trixie was perfectly fine.

She was just overwhelmed with happiness that she passed out. It's concerning to think such a simple act of kindness would result in such an overreaction.

Based on her reaction, I had to tread carefully for what I planned next.

After I told her not to address me as a dragon around other people, I told her she would have to wear a uniform.

I hate the idea of house-elves running around in dirty pillowcases, especially my house-elf. I made sure to stress I would never give her clothes, but if she was to be my house-elf, she would have to wear MY uniform.

She nearly broke down when I first brought it up, but eventually came to understand wearing my uniform was not me giving her clothes. I made sure she understood the tiny robes purchased from Madam MaIkin's shop were mine. She was just to wear them and be responsible for the care of each piece of clothing.

Madam Malkin enjoyed sizing the tiny house-elf so much, she even gave me a dozen little hair-bows to be added to 'my uniform'. In all honesty, Trixie did look adorable in her miniature-robe and purple hair-bow. Like a giant version of one of those animated singing trolls.

Based on the look Malkin gave me, I think I left a positive impression on her.

After Trixie was dressed, we went to eat, which was another challenge, turns out house-elves are expected to eat the scraps of their masters. I had to guilt-trip the tiny elf into agreeing to eat three hearty meals a day. Purely for my benefit, of course. I can't have my servant failing a task due to malnutrition.

I was starting to feel a bit vain. Making so many demands of Trixie, all for the benefit of my appearance.

Finally, getting all that taken care of, it was time to return to my room. I wanted to find out the limit of house-elf magic.

Trixie was very open to answering my questions, but listening to her continuously speak in third-person was a bit confusing at times. Regardless, I learned a great deal.

House-elves are forbidden from seriously injuring a witch or wizard unless it's in defense of their master. They are also not to use their magic unless their master allows it. I made sure to tell Trixie she had my permission to use her magic in whatever manner she saw fit to better serve me.

It turns out, Trixie could Apparate in and out of Hogwarts without issue, but she couldn't take a human along with her. Hogwarts' wards would prevent a human from passing through them.

She could potentially Apparate to America from England, but it would take her well over a dozen jumps. Without land to rest on, it could prove to be a fatal journey. Even making that many consecutive jumps over-land would completely exhaust her. I don't think it would be possible for her to take a human along with her.

Trixie was able to tell me, that no house-elf can Apparate into a Gringotts' vaults. The vaults are warded against house-elf magic. House-elves can't even withdraw gold from their master's vault. The only financial benefit house-elves are involved in, is delivering a transaction authorization to another wizard.

I'm not really surprised the goblins have wards against house-elf magic. I also can't blame the goblins for preventing the gullible little beings access to gold.

On a positive note, Trixie could Apparate to most wizard homes, and take me with her. Most wizarding homes are not warded, and even the more prestigious wizards don't have wards against house-elf magic.

While that may be true for most wizarding homes, I wouldn't trust it against some of the older families.

She would still have to be careful when going to another wizard's home. House-elves can fall victim to any curses or traps set up in the house. Plus, if any house-elves are living at the residence, they would defend the property from all intruders.

After hearing that, I am already making plans to raid the Lestrange Family Library. A family as old and wealthy as the Lestrange Family, must have an impressive collection of magical books.

I just need to verify there isn't a Lestrange NOT imprisoned before attempting to get to their library. I don't remember if the three in Azkaban are the only living Lestrange family members left.

I read an article in The Daily Prophet about a donation Cygnus Black gave some pure-blood charity. If Bellatrix's father is still alive, then Grimmauld Place is off-limits for now. I know he is supposed to die sometime before Sirius escapes from Azkaban but, I don't know if he would be made aware of any trespassers in a Black Family property.

After a few more minor questions were answered, I make Trixie join me in my magic practice. It was nothing harmful. She is to have a friendly duel with me after my spell casting routine. She must attempt to dodge my Tickling Charm while casting her own at me.

I thought it would be a decent place to start training my aim, but it turned out the little bugger is as nimble, as a cat!

Trixie won all of our duels the first day. I did get to test my magic resistance. Between my Breton heritage and the mod perks, I merely chuckle a bit against her fully powered Tickling Charm.

The first duel I won against Trixie, I might have hit her with a few more Tickling Charms as she was rolling around on the ground laughing.

I hold a grudge, so sue me.

After several days of dueling with Trixie, I noticed the tickling sensation was weaker than the first day.

I may be building a resistance due to over-exposure, or I'm learning how to naturally throw off the effects. Despite the cause, spell resistance is still a great benefit.

To build onto this, I've been having Trixie cast typical charms and jinxes on me during our duels. That was a huge battle to get her to accept, but I was finally able to convince her it was for my own protection. She accepted under the impression that I was building a resistance to the spells.

That's not been confirmed yet, but she doesn't need to know that. Besides, I'm getting to experience the effects of each spell, and building up Trixie's dueling abilities.

My magical studies are progressing nicely. I'm still picking up the magic structures for each spell quickly, but my advance through the higher year spells has slowed down.

It's not a matter of difficulty, but time. I've now included several of the elective classes in my study sessions.

I'm currently on the fifth year spells for Transfiguration, Charms, and D.A.D.A. The elective classes are going a bit slower. Most of the electives are more about theory and practical use. There's not many spells involved.

Regardless, I don't plan to dive too deeply into the elective classes. At least not this early.

I only need a general knowledge of Astronomy for my eventual rituals studies. Care of Magical Creatures is recommended as the D.A.D.A. Professor, so one knows the dangers to be aware of.

I find Potions and Herbology incredibly simple, but again, needed for both rituals and D.A.D.A.

Something I am excited about is Ancient Runes. It's a beast to learn the symbols for nearly a dozen different cultures. But it has incredible synergy with my enchanting.

I'm curious to see if I can layer both empowered runes and enchantments from Skyrim on the same item. A few more months and I should be ready to test that theory.

I've also wondered if the Ancient Nordic Runes have any connection to Asgard. I know Thor and Loki visited at least once, but I don't know if they passed on more than just stories of their adventures.

Another thing to look into when I have more time.

For now, runes play an essential part in rituals. That's why I've been taking the Memory Potions for Ancient Runes study and my spell practice.

The more I learn, the more I'm convinced I can make my own rune language with Dovahzul, the dragon language. I have dozens of dovahzul phrases and letters I would love to incorporate into my arsenal.

Something that I didn't think of until recently, why can't I use the dragon language instead of Latin for incantations? There are Parseltongue spells. Why not Dovahzul spells?

I've started a journal of all the dragon language phrases and letters I can remember. Once I've advanced enough with Latin incantations I will attempt to create my own Dovahzul spells. It just sounds bad-ass.

I also put in an order for a pint of basilisk venom with Slug & Jiggers Apothecary. The basilisk venom has to be brought in from out of the country, but I have plenty of time. I think I've come up with a plausible solution to break the curse on the D.A.D.A. position.

The manager of Slug & Jiggers was able to put me in touch, via owl, with Horace Slughorn. It took several flowery letters and a promise of naming his own price but, he finally agreed to brew a vial of Felix Felicis. I told him there would be a bonus if he could deliver the potion by December.

I need to find a place of my own soon. Spending so much time in The Leaky Cauldron is giving me cabin fever. I do have Trixie Apparate us to the countryside for spell practice, but we always return to The Leaky Cauldron.

My days haven't been completely filled with study and practice. After the third week here, Linda and I finally hooked up.

The s.e.x was the best I've ever had. Magic is truly amazing! Seriously! Linda taught me a few spells for the bedroom that take things to a level I didn't even know existed.

I can see why there are so many Weasley children now!

Well, perhaps not. There is a contraceptive spell to prevent pregnancy. Linda was adamant about not wanting to get pregnant. She feels twenty is much too young to settle down, and I fully agree with her.

I credit the talking mirror for finally hooking up with Linda. I took the mirror's advice and got a haircut and beard trim.

I had my long hair trimmed down, and shaved the sides of my head. My c.h.e.s.t length beard is much shorter now. I like the Viking look on this face. It fits.

Another bit of good news, I found a blacksmith shop. It's located in Carkitt Market, just off of Diagon Alley. After talking with Mr. Wright, the forge owner, I learned a bit about being a Metal Charmer.

A Metal Charmer is a mixture of enchanting and smithing. Metal Charmers infuse permanent spells into the metal during the forging process. Golden Snitches and Sneakoscopes are two of their popular products.

I put in an order for five hundred kilograms of iron ore, which arrived last night, and the gems I need to create an enchanting table. I've also rented out the forge for the day. With such a large order, I was able to talk Mr. Wright into including texts on metal charming. It seems too good to ignore.

Today, I intend to transmute the iron ore into gold ore, then melt it into bars. I could just sell the gold ore, but I could probably get a much better price if it's been purified.

I can finally melt some Septims down as well. After all the expenses are done, I should profit over two million Galleons. If the goblins give me the same rate as before.

With that amount of money, I will be financially set. I can start my plans for the MCU side of the world. Buy my own residence, or at least rent a furnished flat.

I'll have to open a Gringotts vault. That is just too much money to try and store in my subspace. A side bonus is I'll get to scout out their vault cavern. That should give me a better idea on where I need to go when I decide to rob a vault.

After returning from my morning practice, I grab a quick bite to eat and head to Bowman E. Wright Blacksmith. I have Mr. Wright explain how to operate the magical forge before he leaves.

Once alone in the forge, I have Trixie setting up the molds as I transmute the iron.

Being the crafty little bugger that she is, Trixie started melting the newly transmuted gold ore after the clay molds were finished.

Trixie and I are forced to cast Cooling Charms, and shielding spells to protect us from the scorching heat of the forge.

At twelve hundred degrees Celsius, the ore finally starts to show signs of melting. After the gold seems to have fully melted, Trixie begins using magic to blow chlorine bubbles through the molten gold.

Leaving her to continue the forging process, I return to transmuting more iron into gold. By the time I finish transmuting the last piece of iron ore, Trixie is removing the chloride slag from the top of the liquid gold.

Once Trixie is finished, I use Grand Telekinesis to transfer the pure gold into the molds she previously made. Watching the little elf supercool the newly formed gold bars, I realized just how overpowered magic and house-elves are.

It took less than forty-five minutes to turn lumps of iron ore into fifty gold bars.

Staring down at the small fortune, I can't believe the amount of money sitting there. Each one of these bars will be worth one hundred and ninety thousand British pounds in thirty years. Right now, the muggle market only values a two-kilogram bar a quarter of that.

I compliment Trixie on doing such an amazing job before we get back to work. We still have four more batches to do.

The sun already set by the time we finished at the forge. We had to take a break after the third batch, so Trixie could rest. She was pushing herself to exhaustion.

I did get to test some of my Restoration spells. Fortunately, my entire body doesn't glow when casting a healing spell, just my hands. After a bit of thought, I begin casting Rejuvenation on myself. It's a Skyrim healing spell from a mod that continuously heals for an entire hour.

As expected, after a series of healing spells cast on her, Trixie went into a mini-mental breakdown. After consoling her failed, I sent her to get us lunch. Oddly, being sent on an errand seems to bring her spirits up.

After getting cleaned up, Trixie and I head to Gringotts. She insisted she is the one to levitate the gold-filled trunk to the bank. Not wanting to argue with her, I allowed it.

Once we entered the Grand Hall of Gringotts, I'm happy to see it empty of any humans. There are still nearly a hundred goblins moving about. It's nice being able to access your bank at all hours of the night.

Approaching the closest teller that didn't look terribly busy, I take note of the other goblins staring at us.

Before I can utter a word, the chubby goblin states, "Good evening, Mr. Dovahkiin. What do you require from Gringotts?"

It looks like all goblins were made aware of me after my first visit. The last time I was here, I left with the equivalent of two hundred thousand in cash. I'm not sure how wealthy some of the wizardly families are, but that feels like a noticeable sum.

In a professional tone, "I require many things from Gringotts tonight. I have a large amount of gold to sell. I need to establish a vault to keep my Galleons. I want to purchase a goblin-wrought dagger. And finally, I would like to see any residences that are for sale."

The Grand Hall becomes silent. Not a single goblin is moving. The overweight goblin in front of me blankly stares at a loss for words.

Looking down at my house-elf and the floating trunk, "Trixie, a bar, please."

"Yes, Master," Trixie happy squeaks out.

Snapping her little fingers, the lid to the truck opens to reveal the gold bars. A single bar floats up and gently lands on the counter.

The chubby teller finally reacts when the bar of gold settles in front of him. Carefully picking up the gold, he begins to closely examine it. The disgusting little shit even licked the bar with his pointed tongue!

The more I interact with goblins, the less I care for them. You could say I'm still extremely bitter about them trying to low-ball me for my Septims.

It takes the teller several minutes before he finishes his examination. "Freshly forged. A two-kilogram bar of pure gold. Gringotts is willing to pay 10,309 galleons and 9 knuts per bar."

"Perfect. I have 236 gold bars to sell today." I ended up with several bars less than I first thought due to not factoring in the loss of weight from impurities.

The teller stutters several times before he catches on the last word I said. With a rough voice, the goblin asks, "Today?"

With a genuine smile, I reply, "Of course. I intend to bring more gold at a later date. Now, I'm sure you want to verify the rest of the gold. While you are seeing to that, can someone else assist me with my other business?"

At my question, a tall elderly goblin wearing a pristine suit walks over. The stylishly dressed goblin quickly scans over me before politely saying, "Mr. Dovahkiin, I am Manager Ruknar. If you would come with me, I will assist you in your other endeavors."
