Queen Of Monsters

Chapter 17 - Rest easy

Ru Naya walked till the gigantic gates of the royal palace loomed over her. As she grew closer she noticed that there was a huge crowd of angry young ladies congregated near the gates. She also noticed one of Ru Yaya's cronies present amongst the young women who were dressed up in fineries, and so Ru Naya quickly retreated to the shadows.

She kept her distance as she watched the snotty underling go up to one of the guards and scream at him to let her go in. However, the palace guard just shook his head and didn't let her enter. Eventually, some other ladies pulled her away before she threw anymore tantrums.

Ru Naya looked down when the underling was dragged past her. Only when the screaming faded away she relaxed considerably. She was lucky that she hadn't been spotted by the screaming girl for she would have definitely informed Ru Yaya about seeing her younger sister near the palace. Once she would have found out about it, then Ru Yaya would have made Ru Naya's life especially hellish for daring to go near her 'future home'. Ru Naya shuddered at the thought as she eyed her surroundings carefully to make sure no one else was there that could recognize her. Once she saw that she was in clear, she stepped out of the shadows and pushed through the crowd and stood in front of one of the guards.

"Excuse me miss," The guard barked at her, "No one is allowed inside the royal palace today."

"I'm here to meet the crown prince," She replied tacitly.

The man mocked her, "So are the endless women here. You ain't special."

She ignored the man's rude tone as she wondered why no one was allowed in the court.

Her confusion was noted by a young woman standing next to her. She tapped Ru Naya's right shoulder gently, making her turn to look at the lady asking for her attention.

"Give it up girl," She informed Ru Naya unhappily, "Apparently Chang Miriya is visiting. Since she is the king's concubine Chang He's niece, she's powerful enough to order the guards from banning any unimportant guests from entering."

The girl glared at the guards at the end of her sentence, and Ru Naya realized why the guards were being so c.o.c.ky while refusing entrance. The niece of a concubine had ordered them after all, and these poor families without power had no way to get in. No wonder everyone was so angry.

If there was no way for her to enter today then she wouldn't be able to meet the crown prince. Misunderstandings were like poison that got more potent the longer they were left to fester, therefore she had to quickly solve any misconception between them as swiftly as possible. Unfortunately, it looked like today would be another day of Jun Liyun thinking ill of her. The thought made Ru Naya sad and her heart sank.

So she made up her mind to enter the palace today itself. However, there were only two obvious options that would let her gain entry: force a way in by finding any secret passageways, or wait for Chang Miriya to leave as it would lift the restriction on who could enter the royal court.

However, option one was useless since the entrances would be hard to find as they were secret for a reason, and as for the second one, she didn't know when the girl would leave and thus, it might be nightfall or even a day or two before Chang Miriya stepped out of the palace, and Ru Naya couldn't wait for that long.

She was feeling dejected as she realized her choices were dwindling. She couldn't believe that today of all days, a royal decided to boast their power! She wondered why Chang Miriya would do something like this, but she didn't dawdle on that thought as she had to find a way to enter regardless of the obstacles thrown at her. She was thinking hard when an idea suddenly stuck her.

She smiled widely as she remembered something. She whipped around and ran to her house as quickly as she could. She was in such a hurry that she didn't notice that there were lines of carriages idling by the path that ran alongside the outside walls of the Ru Household. She barged inside and paused when she saw that the courtyard was full of young women, and Ru Yaya sitting amongst them. Ru Yaya was comforting a crying girl, and Ru Naya realized that it was the same snotty girl who had been dragged away by some other ladies earlier.

Oh no, Ru Naya's heart sank. Ru Yaya and her entourage came back from the party much earlier than she had expected. To go to her own room Ru Naya had to cross paths with all of them.

Meanwhile the unaware girls stared at Ru Yaya enviously as she comforted the crying girl. Ever so often she would gently console the upset girl and many ladies sighed at her kind actions. They wondered about how could someone be so perfect and caring at the same time. Any household would be blessed to have such a lovely daughter-in-law like Ru Yaya! No wonder she had so many invitations pouring in for her hand in marriage from left to right. Soon, the royal family would also extend an invitation to marry the eldest Ru daughter, cause now that the enigmatic crown prince was looking for a wife...who would be better suited than Ru Yaya herself?

"Gosh girl, raise your chin up! you're being comforted by the one and only Ru Yaya, how could you still be sad?" One of the ladies complained indignantly.

The crying girl nodded and then gave Ru Yaya a watery smile, causing Ru Naya to roll her eyes from the shadows.

"Sweetie, we are all friends here and we should help each other in their trying times." Ru Yaya faked kindness. However, inwardly she laughed at the crying girl. How dare the vixen to go to the palace and try woo the love of her life? did she really think that the astounding prince would give a damn about anyone other than Ru Yaya? There was no one better than her in this world so it was no wonder that prince Jun Liyun was rejecting every single girl that threw themselves at him. He was so perfect, and only a fairy like her for suitable for his love.

Ru Yaya waited till her sister left then sighed dramatically.

"My god, what was she wearing?" One of the girls commented out loud.

"Th-those dirty clothes su-suit that dirty personality perfectly." The crying girl beside Ru Yaya sniffled.

Ru Yaya maintained her sad face but sneered inwardly. How happy she was to see people talk against her nemesis like this! It reminded her fondly of all the efforts she had put forth to make Ru Naya so unpopular and hated.

When Ru Yaya had recently turned two years old, Ru Naya had been born. Everyone who used to dote on her suddenly shifted their attention to the small Ru Naya. Ru Naya was a pretty baby, and was far cuter with her wide brown twinkling eyes and a charming childish smile. This made everyone love the little infant, and they would coddle her all the time. Ru Yaya was jealous since she had been depraved of the attention that had always been on her. She couldn't understand why there was another one when she herself was enough? why did she need a younger sister?

How could her parents be this selfish? Ru Yaya had always made it clear that she didn't want a sibling cause she didn't want anyone else getting the attention from her parents and other people. However, it didn't matter now since the wretched girl was already here. So Ru Yaya focused all of her attention on destroying Ru Naya for daring to steal her limelight. When it was Ru Yaya's birthday, she specifically didn't invite her sister, and if Ru Naya showed up Ru Yaya would start to cry till Ru Naya was forced to leave. Unfortunately, though her behaviour hurt little Ru Naya, it made others look at Ru Yaya like she was a jealous child. So she changed her tactics and started to invite her sister to the birthdays, but this time she would be subtle with her bullying. She would gather her friends and corner Ru Naya to make fun of her. Without any support, no one tried to save the crying Ru Naya as their parents were far too busy pleasing the other guests to take care of their toddler. Other than bullying with her friends, Ru Yaya also made sure that Ru Naya got the worst treatment in their home. She only got hand-me-downs, and if she ever did get any new toys or clothes, Ru Yaya would break them or tear them apart. Even though her parents had finally stopped getting Ru Naya new things, and even gone out of their way to give Ru Naya one of the worst rooms in the household, Ru Yaya still wasn't satisfied enough, so she started to spread rumours about her little sister to further damage her life.

Thus, that is how the two sisters grew up in the Ru household. Ru Naya had become rebellious, as she acted out in self defence whereas Ru Yaya grew up to be a lovely tempered girl. She made sure to butter up her parents by telling Ru Jiahao that she would grow up and marry the prince and make him the member of the prince's council, while manipulating Xue Lan by telling her that Ru Yaya wanted to be just like her: a young lovely socialite. She would make sure to especially butter her mother cause Xue Lan was the one who mostly stayed back at home, and looked after the household affairs. If she hadn't pleased her mother then how could Xue Lan have looked away when Ru Yaya had ordered the servants to bully her younger sister? Xue Lan had also been instrumental in convincing Ru Jiahao that Ru Naya was a useless kid, and that she didn't deserve their kindness. Therefore both of the parents would scream at Ru Naya whenever she came back dirty, not listening to her when she tried to tell them that she got dirty while defending herself against Ru Yaya's friends. They had ostracized her for lying about not being the one to burn Ru Yaya's beautiful dresses, despite it actually being Ru Yaya herself destroying the dresses cause she thought they were ugly.

By the time they were in their mid teens, Ru Yaya had become the apple of the eye of everyone around her. However, despite her best efforts, Ru Naya had still flourished. Ru Naya had become a natural beauty that no amount of makeup on Ru Yaya's face could ever compete with. As if that wasn't enough, despite all the damaging rumours about her, Ru Naya had made actually made a friend and a boyfriend! Zan Mei came from a family of merchants and thus Ru Yaya couldn't hurt their reputation, and Yan Lin was a poor kid without much reputation himself, however after nosing around, Ru Yaya had found out that the boy was a damn good hunter and would inevitably hunt a rare animal and earn himself a name.

How dare Ru Naya not go down quietly? This made Ru Yaya want to destroy Ru Naya thoroughly since Ru Naya didn't deserve anything good in her life.

"Why do you want to spoil your mood by talking about that s.l.u.t, Ru Yaya?" one of her friends sneered. Many nodded at her statement.

"Oh yeah, I saw her yesterday with that sewer rat Yan Lin. I can't believe she is going out with a worthless man like him, but then again it is Ru Naya so she deserves that company."

"Our Yaya is a goddess, Ru Naya doesn't even equal to a speck of dirt compared to her!"

Everyone echoed their agreement and Ru Yaya smiled.

This is right, she thought happily, Ru Naya, everyone knows the truth about you. However, I should still do something and make your two friends see it too. Once you're thoroughly destroyed then only I can rest easy.
