36 – Victory and Reward (3)

The words reward and promotion have the power to make people’s hearts beat wildly.

“f*ck, if I lose my promotion again this time, I will hang myself.”

“Shut up, you asshole. A bastard who can’t even sharpen a knife, always greedy for promotion. It’s been a few years since I was promoted to senior mercenary, and I’m already dead. What the f*ck?”

“Deus-sama please, please. Please allow me to get a promotion. Damn, if you give me a promotion, I’ll pay the full tithe.”

Me and my Martin teenager are watching from a little distance away from the group of noisy guys.

“They flocked like ants looking for honey. It’s not like I’m giving you 1 copper more for that, you idiots.”

“Even if you say that, isn’t Captain Martin secretly expecting a promotion?”

I weakly slapped Baker on the back of the head.

“Stop the bullsh*t, dude. You were promoted to captain a few months ago, will you be promoted again?”

“Isn’t it something you don’t know about?”

It’s not like I don’t have high hopes at all, but it’s been a while since I became captain of the decathlon… There’s a high chance that it won’t even begin.

“It is said that if you fill up only one thing, whether it is time or ability, you will rise up to the rank of platoon leader. But this body just doesn’t work for me, you damn bastard.”

“Is that so? Still, I think it’s something you never know.”

Karin also helped me by patting my shoulder next to her.

“Captain Dalton said that we have been working hard to increase the size of our mercenary corps, but he grumbled that there was no good executive level guy. You never know. The one who played the most active role in this war is our 10th Captain. Will you give the platoon commander a go?”

“Isn’t Karin the captain of the 10th this time? It’s a 5-year gap in your career, and you’ve been active a lot lately.”

At that, Karin turned her head slightly to her side and said.

“Is it good for Martin to be separated from me into a different unit?”

“It can’t be, can’t it? But he wants to be promoted quickly and be recognized.”

“I see. Still, I’m not happy with the promotion yet.”

Karin gave me a bright smile.

“So for the time being, I like working in the same unit as Martin.”

“I like being in the same unit as your seniors.”

As the two of us were having a good conversation, the cloth covering the bulletin board with the awards written on it suddenly came off.

Those who were swarming in front of it showed various reactions when they saw it.

“f*ck, this is it! Damn, promotion after 5 years! I’m now a damn senior mercenary escape! f*ck, it feels so f*cking good!”

A guy who goes wild with joy after being promoted in recognition of his achievements in this war.

“Ha, f*ck. I’m pissed off that I failed in promotion, but why is the reward like this?! f*ck you, f*ck.”

A guy who fell into despair because of his incompetence or lack of luck, because of his promotion, bounty, and failure.

“It’s just that. Oh sh*t. I’m going to have a drink with the reward money.”

There were various reactions, from being disappointed or not excited about the result to a kid trying to drink.

Watching these guys like that makes me curious and my heart is pounding.

“Chief Martin, there’s a vacant seat over there. We are going to check it out now.”

“Okay, let’s go and see how much our ten ligaments, who played the most this time, were treated.”

So I took them and went forward, cutting through the crowds to check the rewards.

And I searched hard for my name to find out how big the reward was.

“Let’s see… Martin Mayer… “

And next to me I heard old Baker cheering loudly.

“f*ck, 2 gold! The bounty is only 2 gold! Let’s get rich!”

“Wow, is this why you play a mercenary who fights with your life even if it sucks? My family’s income for the year just dropped, damn it.”

“From now on, I will always stick around, Captain Martin. When he dies, he dies with him, and when he lives, he should live attached to him like a leech. 2 Gold damn, what do you do with this money?”

If it weren’t for us, the Count of Salzheim would have been kicked out, but he gave a lot of money and fell for himself.

The art of making people feel good for no reason is like a nobleman who is filthy and excellent.

If that’s the case, I think I’ll be able to laugh and hand over the things I tried to drag the young ladies over from the last banquet and drag them under me.

“Wow, Senior Karin! Congratulations on your promotion! Are you giving a treat today?”

…… If Karin was promoted, would I be promoted too, right?

With that in mind, I finally found my name in the announcement.

[Ten Commander Martin Mayer promoted to platoon leader, reward will come separately later]

I almost didn’t expect to get a promotion… A promotion. I was so shocked that nothing came out of my mouth.

After a moment of silence, the teenagers next to me started making a fuss.

“f*ck, our 10th captain has been promoted to platoon commander! Damn it, the king is cool, damn it!”

“Even if you are f*cking competent, you have to spend 10 years as a mercenary to get promoted. sh*t, Platoon Leader Martin, isn’t this a legend in the mercenary world?”

“But to be honest, Captain Martin, no, platoon commander is enough to be promoted. Didn’t you just blow away two knights’ heads and save all the war boards that you’ve been shoveling into? If it wasn’t for the platoon commander, we would all be f*cking f*cked.”

In history without my involvement, Count Salzheim was defeated by Count Philorand, and the Whitebeard mercenaries were also in crisis, so that is correct.

Lucia also agreed by wagging her tail.

“I agree with the statement that we would have lost without the platoon leader. Wouldn’t it be even more strange if we didn’t promote someone who did such a great job?”

I was embarrassed at the moment when Lucia, who doesn’t reveal her self-subjection, insisted like that.

“Isn’t it?”

“Yes!”

“Okay then f*ck it. Today, to commemorate my promotion to platoon commander, I shoot everyone. It’s okay to rob an entire store, so bring everything you want to eat.”

Baker laughed at that.

“f*ck, are you really going to rent an inn? Do not regret, Captain Ten?”

…… Wait, are you crazy?

“Guys, Platoon Leader Martin told me to charter a f*cking inn to commemorate my promotion! Grab a decent one near here! Let’s go in to rob the platoon commander’s wallet right now!”

I was trying to stop him, but Baker and the other men ran away before I knew it.

“Ha, f*ck. Those f*cking babies. Those who are as slow as turtles in training are f*cking fast when this happens, you sneaky ones!”

Every time I see that scene, I sigh.

“Platoon Leader Martin, can we not catch them? Then I’ll get a real inn.”

“Let’s just leave it alone, well. I make money and spend it at times like this, and when else do I spend it?”

If you don’t use it when you use it like an idiot, the captain of the Fjord Ten, you won’t be popular with his subordinates, and you won’t be able to succeed.

So, if you want to earn money and rise in the world, the right reason to live as a mercenary is to spend it coolly when you need to spend it even if you save it when you save it.

“Really? If you think so, so be it. I think I’ll get a promotion when I go to the next city. I thought I’d change my bow and sword… “

Karin stopped her in the middle and blushed.

“Do you want to go with me? That Martin, since you became a platoon commander, wouldn’t it be better to change your armor even if you don’t know the sword?”

My armor is still pretty usable so I don’t need to change it, but this seems like a suggestion to buy a weapon and go on a date…

‘If given a chance, it’s natural to bow down and eat right away.’

“Okay, senior Karin.”

“Yes, I know the city of Salzburg next time. It is also famous for its blacksmith skills. So I went to see my bow, and then I went to see Martin’s armor. There are a lot of pre-made ones, so you should be able to find something that fits your body and looks good. Or you can stay longer and have a famous blacksmith custom-made for you.”

Salzburg is famous as a place where weapons, armor and all sorts of rare items are gathered.

So, although I know to some extent, it is more important than anything else to match her excitement by proposing to go weapon shopping with me.

“Then you should go to buy a bow first and then introduce me to a place that makes good armor.”

“Of course, I will find a shop that makes really good things that are hard to find anywhere else.”

“I look forward to it.”

It’s not a bad shop since it’s Karin’s recommendation, but actually, I’m more looking forward to going out with her alone…

“By the way, what kind of place is Salzburg? “

I couldn’t finish the sentence.

“Oh, f*ck our platoon commander. Even at Salzheim Castle, he was so busy he couldn’t even eat because he was flirting with the ladies, so here too… “

When Karin heard that, her face turned red, and I turned her head away to see who the hell was talking bullsh*t.

“Captain Dalton?”

Dalton gave me a hard slap on the shoulder and back and then gave me a chuckle.

“Yeah, kid. Damn, congratulations on your promotion to platoon commander.”

“Thank you.”

“I’ve met all sorts of crazies as a mercenary captain, but I’ve never seen a bastard like you who has clearly proven his abilities and rises quickly to the rank of platoon commander. Well, I was promoted, but I couldn’t help it either. How are you going to do that when your kid is so f*cking good?”

Dalton grunted and cleared his throat.

“Put that aside and follow me.”

“Why? Can’t I get some rest today too?”

“Don’t say you’re sick, you’re an officer from the platoon commander onwards. After leaving Salzheim, you can decide where you are going and then you can rest, you asshole. Just stitch your mouth and follow me.”

Hearing that, I began to think about where to go as my next destination.

Will you go to the place where you get the elixir or where the big war is going on?
