46 – Burn Enemy Supply First (2)

Three days later, in the forest near the Alpine Route.

We did not ambush at the foot of the mountain as I suggested, but quietly hid ourselves in the woods.

I grumbled to myself in the bushes.

“Ha, f*ck. Ambush is something you only do in games, in real life, you’re going to go crazy trying to hold your breath and stay still.”

That said, this is better than running head-on into a supply unit that is on strict alert and running out.

Dalton grinned and slapped him on the shoulder as I gave him a poopy expression.

“As expected, platoon leader Martin, who has risen as the fastest among the mercenaries I’ve seen, is waiting for an ambush because it’s f*cking f*cked up, so he can’t stand it?”

“It’s worth it.”

“Really? I was also trying to comfort you, thinking that you might be trying to die in agony, just like those babies scratching their arms and legs because they were tickled by mosquitoes and leeches.”

Even though he said so, seeing the way he was smiling, it was obvious that he was making fun of me.

Still, it seems that the burden is lessened a little bit by relieving tension like this, so I don’t feel like I have to somehow repay you with stronger words.

“Captain, captain.”

Dalton turned his head in the direction of his voice.

“Are you Jackson? Damn it, at least show some signs and talk to me. I’m surprised, kid.”

“How could a nerd like me assassinate an expert nobleman?”

“Well, with your skills, it’s impossible to wake up after falling behind. By the way, how many enemies are there? It’s like two or three hundred, right?”

Jackson pursed his lips, clenched his teeth, and shook his head.

‘f*ck, did I get f*cked?’

When that thought came to mind, Jackson opened his mouth and spoke cautiously.

“That is at least twice as many as the Viscount Na-ri, our organizer, predicted. It should be around six or seven hundred.”

“f*ck, that’s f*cked up.”

“And seeing that there are fleur-de-lis flags and family flags symbolizing the nobility of Montmartre all over the supply base. It looks like a bastard who looks like a baron is in charge of supply escort.”

Dalton clicked his tongue.

“Even though we signed a contract, it is a f*cking exception in this unfavorable situation. Their supply corps are twice as large as expected, so it’s innocent even if they jump out.”

In the same way that when we sign an insurance contract or conduct various transactions, if there is a clause that says ‘this case is an exception’, there is no responsibility even if we do not observe it.

From a mercenary’s point of view, if the situation seems too unanswerable, no one can say anything even if the operation is abandoned.

Of course, it won’t have any adverse effect on the reputation we hang on to as mercenaries.

“I do. Let’s just bounce.”

But on the other hand, if we do it when others give up, our reputation and reputation will skyrocket. Why give up on this?

‘If you can’t see the angle, it’s okay to stand out. If that’s not the case, if there’s a slight possibility, I’ll do it.’

“If there are too many of them in the supply unit, they might just let their guard down. How did it look?”

Jackson sighed at my words and replied.

“I’ve been watching them all come out of the mountain road. Those who were very nervous on the mountain road let go of their guard as soon as they came down the flat.”

The behavior of the Montmartre slugs is very common sense.

Because, unless you’re a crazy person, you’re unlikely to have a separate army of over 500 people to rob a supply base.

As Captain Dalton said, let’s run away after seeing the size of them, it’s only natural that even the cubs who were going to ambush would peck at ‘that number’.

Now that they have crossed the canyon or the foot of the mountain, which is the best place to be attacked, they have no choice but to think that they are safe and let go.

“Then isn’t this an opportunity? If we beat them in the back and win, it’s worth a try.”

“Are you saying we’re going to try heading into the ground right now?”

“I don’t think anyone will say anything even if you run away with f*cking words like this. Wouldn’t it be better for him to pretend to do something even a little bit and then stand out?”

A guy who was put in a situation where he couldn’t do anything, but tried to do something and inevitably failed.

In social life, wouldn’t the former be rated much higher among the two?

Dalton nodded his head.

“With the troops hidden in the forest, they shoot arrows and lose them with magic. Maybe we can win as long as they get flustered by the ambush. No matter how many enemies there are, it’s worth trying if you hit them in the back and push them. And from the situation so far, it seems certain they won’t find us unless we attack first.”

“To succeed in the ambush, we must disguise ourselves as outnumbering the slugs?”

I responded by stretching out my chest and pounding with my fist.

“Didn’t I know this and bring crossbows for the number of people? If you fire 300 rounds at once, they’ll get it wrong. And if archers are just quick-firing arrows, it’s enough to fool them. Trust this Martin one more time.”

Dalton looked in the direction of Jackson and Heinz.

They both replied with a quiet nod.

“Yes, f*ck. Rather than just bouncing, pretending to do something and then bouncing would help raise the value of the white beard name. Except for the unit commander, the rest of the officers go back to their platoons. Load the crossbow with arrows and tell them to wait. If they pass by here, we have to make a hedgehog.”

“Thank you, chief.”

“f*ck it, thank you only after your operation is successful.”

A few hours later, Baker covered his mouth and whispered in a low voice.

“Platoon commander, how many f*cking people are there? It seems to be 600 people… Aren’t we screwed up?”

Baker and other new recruits, no, even Karin, show a ‘nervous look’ by repeatedly biting their lips and opening and closing their fists.

The corners of my mouth soared with momentum that could pierce the sky.

‘Looking at the fact that we didn’t send a single scout until we got here. A surprise attack is halfway successful.’

“Asshole, if you noticed the ambush or sent a scout. Look at those assholes scurrying around now.”

And I pricked up my ears and looked at them.

“Oh, f*ck. Really sucks. Isn’t this kind of supply convoy honestly what serf soldiers are supposed to do? But I don’t know why we, the standing soldiers, are doing this sh*t.”

“Don’t say sh*t, you idiot. Our general asked me to, so the baron did it because he had no choice but to do it. Don’t grumble, the baron might get into trouble if he even listens.”

“Ha, we also have a class in name and color. It’s because it sucks to be mobilized for the work of mercenaries or serfs.”

Serf soldiers don’t deserve any rewards unless they kill a knight, so the goal of going to war is to return alive and well.

Soldiers can get promoted and earn a lot of money only when they play an active part in the war and make a contribution.

Of course, they would be in a bad mood since they were in charge of escorting a war merchant and a supply corps for which they could not expect any reward.

‘But supply is the most important issue in war. The attitude of the soldier and the bastard above him…’

I know that idiots, nobles and soldiers of this era live and die in honor…

That’s a stupid idea that has crossed the line a long time ago.

“Looking at that tail, I feel f*cking relieved.”

Then I turned to Lucia.

Like the others, he’s biting his lip and holding his tail upright.

“Lucia, when I send you a signal, use the most powerful magic you can use right now. No fire magic.”

“Yes.”

I like your short but heavy answer.

“Okay. Now let’s just wait until Captain Dalton sends a signal.”

This time I could feel Karin’s gaze piercing the back of my head.

“Senior, you have to shoot arrows and provide good cover. Otherwise I will die.”

She showed her confident smile, raising one corner of her mouth.

“Don’t worry. Trust me, Platoon Commander.”

A minute or two passed like that, and when their mercenaries passed halfway through our ambush.

A famous enemy (an arrow with a sound) was shot up into the sky.

“Attack! f*ck it, shoot an arrow, grab a weapon and run at random!”

“They shivering and pecking like rats will see me separately!”

“It’s time to properly show what a real man is! Fight like you guys stiffen your dick in front of a pr*stitute!”

When the enemies panicked and tried to prepare for something, a barrage of magic and arrows rained down on them.

“A surprise, a surprise!”

“Ouch, my body! My arms! My arms!!!”

“Keep your supplies! Protect your food and supplies!”

And they don’t know our numbers, but they’re trying to defend themselves somehow…

“White Beard Mercenaries! Prove that you guys are f*cking real men today! Charge!”
