Chapter 9

Qin Jiulin drew back the curtains and descended the stairs. He opened the door and stepped outside, positioning himself to observe them through the large iron gate. “What do you want from me?”

“Um… Qin Jiulin, the young master Qin, right?”

Three individuals stood outside, two women and a man. The man was the one who could transform into an ordinary pigeon, someone Qin Jiulin had seen a few times but never spoken to or recognized. However, he did recognize the woman who had just spoken.

She was Zhou Yiyi, the daughter of his mother’s friend. He didn’t know the other woman.

Qin Jiulin asked calmly, “What do you want with me?”

Zhou Yiyi smiled slightly. “Oh, don’t be so cold! The situation is special now, and we don’t know when help will arrive. We all live in the same villa area, so we should support each other, don’t you think?”

Qin Jiulin remained composed and asked, “How can we support each other?”

Although Zhou Yiyi referred to him as the young master Qin, her tone lacked much respect. It seemed more like teasing and sarcasm. But he didn’t mind, as he didn’t particularly value his identity as a member of the Qin family.

Zhou Yiyi said, “You are aware of the recent events, so we won’t say much. The number of people who bought villas in this area was already small, and even fewer live here regularly.”

“Now, apart from you, we have gathered everyone else in this community. We all live in one of the villas now, and it’s safer with more people.”

Qin Jiulin asked, “How many people are there?”

Zhou Yiyi didn’t hide the truth from him. After all, they had more people on their side. Would Qin Jiulin try to take advantage of them?

“We have eleven people here. It’s not a large number, but considering how few people are here, having eleven is quite good. Moreover, some have undergone partial bestial transformation, and if they are still in good condition, the number will be even higher. By the way, we previously encountered several individuals with partial bestial transformation, and they were extremely dangerous due to their unclear consciousness.”

“If you insist on living alone, you will encounter many dangers. A single person won’t stand a chance against those monsters.”

Qin Jiulin asked, “Are you suggesting that I move over and live with all of you?”

Zhou Yiyi replied, “Yes, with more people, we can all be a little safer. It’s already at this point, Qin Jiulin. I know you’re reclusive, but you can’t act as a lone ranger at a time like this. You won’t know how it will end up, so it’s better for everyone to stick together…”

Qin Jiulin raised his hand to stop her from continuing, “No need to say more. I prefer living alone. I can’t accept living with a group of people.”

Zhou Yiyi blinked incredulously, “What? You refuse? You actually refuse?”

“Do you know that among the eleven of us, there are two individuals who can fully transform into beasts? They are very powerful. And during the emergency announcements on TV when there was still a signal, they said that those who can fully transform are evolved and strong…”

“Don’t you want to be with them? It’s safer that way. At least you won’t unknowingly encounter danger!”

Qin Jiulin started to doubt. He was just an ordinary person, and Zhou Yiyi clearly looked down on him. If he refused, they would think he was ungrateful and leave.

But why did she keep persuading him? Could there be some hidden agenda?

Qin Jiulin said, “Zhou Yiyi…”

Zhou Yiyi paused for a moment when she heard him call her name, then realized that she had been a bit too excited earlier. She smoothed her hair.

“Sorry, I got a little carried away. In short, what I wanted to say were those words. You haven’t encountered danger yet, but you’ll know I didn’t harm you when you do.”

If Qin Jiulin were just an ordinary person, he would have agreed. But unfortunately, his current situation called for living alone. Of course, he couldn’t hide his abilities forever, but at least at the beginning, he didn’t want to attract too much trouble.

“Thank you for your kindness, but I still prefer being alone. You can stick together as a group. With eleven people gathered, you’ll surely be safe until the military and police take control of the city. Everyone will be safe by then.”

Zhou Yiyi could hardly believe it. How many times had he refused now? Did Qin Jiulin really not care about his own life at all? Or did he see through her intentions?

“Alright, Yiyi, since he doesn’t want to join us, let him stay here alone. Eventually, he will realize how serious the situation is.”

“Yes, fortunately, there are few people here right now, so even if there are individuals with partial bestial transformation, their numbers are also few. We just need to be cautious, and we’ll be fine.”

Zhou Yiyi still felt somewhat unwilling as she glanced at Qin Jiulin, “You really don’t want to be with us? If you join us, we’ll be a group of twelve. Though it’s just one more person, there’s strength in numbers, you know.”

Qin Jiulin firmly refused, “Let it go, thank you.”

In the end, Zhou Yiyi, wearing an unwilling expression, was dragged away by her companions. The faces of the people who came with her didn’t look as good anymore. Each of them seemed to hold a grudge against him.

Qin Jiulin found it strange, but he didn’t intend to delve into it. As long as they didn’t disturb him, everything was fine. Both sides could coexist peacefully. If they came to cause trouble, he wouldn’t be held responsible.

After Zhou Yiyi and the other two returned to their own villa, they became angry. Zhou Yiyi didn’t say anything, but her two companions took turns adding fuel to the fire, portraying Qin Jiulin as an arrogant and self-centered idiot.

“I’ve never seen such a person before. We went to find him out of goodwill, but what can one person achieve living alone?”

“He really doesn’t know how to appreciate kind intentions. If he ends up being killed later, it will be his own fault. I told you, we shouldn’t have gone to find him in the first place. What bad luck.”

“He gives off this cold, icy vibe, as if he can handle everything on his own without needing any of us. It’s infuriating. What do you think, Brother Lin?”

Lin Yuzhe sighed, “Alright, stop getting angry. If he doesn’t want to, let it be. We didn’t really lose anything. The one who will suffer the consequences is himself.”

“You’re right, he’s the one who will suffer, not us.”

Zhou Yiyi said, “He will regret it. If it weren’t for my mother having a good relationship with Aunt Qin, I wouldn’t even bother with him.”

“Yiyi, you have a kind heart, but it doesn’t mean he appreciates it.”

Zhou Yiyi recalled past events and continued, “Actually, Qin Jiulin doesn’t have a good relationship with our family either. Maybe he’s just used to being alone, which is why he refused.”

“But look at the current situation. Regardless of his habits, he should… Well, forget it. Talking about him only makes me angry. Let’s not mention it anymore. Oh, by the way, has Wang Ge returned?”
