Reincarnation: A New World

Chapter 10 - Pins & Shameless References...

Nora and Percy's banter ended rather abruptly with the entrance of one of the significant figures who had been at the stage with the Headmaster. The figure who up to this point had been shrouded under a hood unveiled themselves to reveal a young woman who looked not a day over 20. With a bright smile, she said, "I am Great Mage Mirlie and I will be your guide. If everyone would please follow me." then, just as she began to walk to back outside to the courtyard and into the Academy she paused. She quietly grumbled to herself, "My memory really is failing me...". Mirle turned around and gestured for the crowd to stop, "Before we enter the Academy you all need to put these on". She reached into her robe and pulled out a box full of blank ornate pins.

Nora, who had been closely following Great Mage Mirlie was the first to receive a pin. As Nora grabbed a pin from the box, the blank spaces on the pin quickly shifted into two separate sentences. On the top of the pin the words, 'First Year' were clearly written while on the bottom it said, "Fire Affinity". After a few seconds, an image of a flame appeared at the centre of the pin.

Nora innately curious at the workings and purpose of the pin began to keenly observe it. Forgetting that she was blocking others from getting a pin. Mirlie quickly noticing that Nora seemed confused added for the entire group, "These pins will allow you to enter the Academy. Otherwise, the protection arrays of the school will identify you as a foreigner and alert security. So please, don't lose them" she seemed to be speaking from personal experience as a rather disgruntled face took hold of her. Nora realizing her actions quickly stepped to the side to allow the rest of the children to collect their pins before they headed inside.

Headmaster Thurmond already having wrapped up his duties as the overseer of the enrollment tests began to make his way back towards his office but before he left the courtyard he caught sight of his new playtoy. She and the new Mage course students were just now receiving their identification pins. He steeled himself as he noticed the presence of Great Mage Mirlie. Thinking of the future his perverse smile once again grew on his face. His face somehow contorting further as he resumed his walk back to his office.

Nora only had waited a few minutes before everyone had their collected their pins and had pinned them onto their uniforms. As soon as they were all ready, Great Mage Mirlie once again instructed, "If everyone would please follow me." doing her best to pretend that she hadn't nearly caused the entire school to panic as over a dozen foreigners set off all the protection arrays.

Great Mage Mirlie led the now, new students into the Academy. As they crossed the entrance into the academy an invisible barrier provided some light resistance as everyone crossed. Nora quickly identified the barrier as some form of scanning array as she felt her entire body get scanned only for it to stop once it detected the pin.

The chatter of the new students began to build as they made their way down one of the many halls within the Academy. Many of them gawking as they passed a series of classes, "Was that teacher doing fire magic?" "How are there so many rooms?" "I swear it wasn't this big on the outside..."

They eventually arrived at an empty classroom. Although the classroom appeared more like an auditorium it remained a classroom due to its lack of size, even the seats were at different raised altitudes to allow students to have a better view of the teacher.

Great Mage Mirlie quickly told the students to sit down. The children already beginning to form their own cliches quickly sat down. Emilee, of course, having by far the largest group.

Mirlie began her lesson about how the academy functioned, "At our Allosian Imperial Academy," slightly parodying the Headmasters pompous emphasization of the academies name, "the days are split into two types, Day One, and Day Two. For the first year's the schedule is rather concrete and inflexible.

"Day One's consist of History, Magic Theory, Pre-Initiate Class for whichever element you have an affinity for and then a brief break for food. Followed by an elective of your choice in the afternoon."

"Day Two's consist of Physical Conditioning first, then Language Studies, followed by Pre-Initiate Class into a break, then a second block of whichever elective you chose."

"For choices of electives, we offer a wide array", Great Mage Mirlie pulled out an incredibly long list from a nearby shelf and displayed it in front of the students.

(List Of Electives)

The list continued on but Nora froze as she read 'Defence Against the Dark Arts' she was extremely happy that she hadn't started to cultivate 'Demonic Witchgod Transformations' as that surely would've given her some form of affinity for the dark arts. From what Nora inferred, the people of the Alossian Empire weren't were too fond of Demons...
