Ruler Of Iron And Flesh

Chapter 92 - Alaric's Fight

Alaric felt a chill run up his back as he saw Finn look and smile wickedly at him. However, Alaric wasn't someone to back down from a challenge.

He went and stood on one end of the makeshift field. Eli said, "good luck," before he went and stood off to the side as well.

Finn's cronies were patting Finn's back and cheering him on. Finn was almost laughing with an perverted kind of joy when he stood on the other side of the field.

"This couldn't turn out any better you fu**er!"

"Watch your language Finn! And make sure you both stop when I signal and no latter!" Leah yelled.

Neither Alaric or Finn said anything more. Alaric looked into Finn's eyes, which looked as if he was hunting and right about to catch his prey.

Alaric held onto his dull bright coin. He could feel his blood rushing through his body as his heart was racing in his c.h.e.s.t.

It seemed to take forever until Leah's hand dropped, but once it did and her call to begin sounded, both the boys ran towards each other.

Finn conjured some daggers in his hand and tossed them at Alaric.

Alaric stepped off to the side, narrowly avoiding the sharp blades. He needed to narrow the distance between himself and Finn quickly, or else Finn could continue tossing weapons in his direction until one of them hit him.

Finn conjured a spear in his hands next. Alaric was getting too close for comfort, and Finn wanted to keep that distance.

He continually lunged and stabbed at Alaric, but Alaric was using the back of his hand to deflect each spear thrust.

He earned a few gasps and awes from the other students who were watching him. They couldn't believe that Alaric was fighting on even ground with a bright coin user.

Finn growled and switched his weapon to a flail and began swinging it around. Alaric didn't dare attempt to deflect these, so he was put on the defensive while Finn was swinging the weapon towards him.

Finn swung the weapon downwards in one motion and Alaric sidestepped and dodged the blow.

He used that moment when the weapon was stuck in the ground to step in close to Finn and landed a blow on his face.

Finn felt Alaric's fist slam into his jaw and was knocked back. He was dizzy and roared in anger.

He changed the weapon into a sword this time and was slicing and stabbing at Alaric.

His movements were not clean unlike before, as his rage had overcome him.

Alaric dodged or deflected every swing of the sword by using precise movements against the dull parts of the weapon.

He stepped forward in one motion and grabbed Finn's wrist with one hand, jabbing and hand into his throat with the other.

Finn stepped up and began retching and gagging when Leah shouted, "that's enough! Stop immediately!"

Alaric glanced once more at Finn, who's face said, 'this isn't over,' and both boys walked back to their own sides of the field.

Leah stepped forward and began her critique, "that was well fought, both of you. For you Finn, I want you to try and conjure more than one kind of weapon at a time. A couple different weapons in hand can mean the difference between victory or death."

She looked to Alaric next, "Alaric, that was some excellent hand to hand combat, and I'm impressed that you were able to do so well despite not being able to use your bright coin. For you I would recommend just continue trying to use your bright coin."

Alaric nodded and Finn nodded, "yes teacher."

Finn was massaging his jaw and throat, and shot Alaric nasty looks as he walked back towards his cronies.

Eli and Elizabeth were cheering on the sidelines as Alaric walked back.

"That was so awesome man! I can't believe you humiliated Finn like that!"

Elizabeth was laughing, "it serves him right, the prick deserves it."

Alaric chuckled, "I was honestly really nervous because I still am unable to use my bright coin. I'm not sure what's wrong exactly."

Leah called out two more names, "Eli and Charles!"

Eli patted Alaric's shoulder, "You'll be able to figure it out, anyway, I'm up next! Wish me luck!"

Eli went and stood opposite of his opponent Charles. Charles could spit acid from his mouth as his ability.

He was also one of Finn's cronies. Eli had a hard time standing up to Finn, but he had no issues standing up to one of his cronies.

He used his telekinetic power to constantly blow dust, rocks, and wind at his opponent.

Charles tried to spit out acid, but it flew right back at him and began to burn when it landed on his arm.

He screamed and ran outside of the makeshift field.

"Stop! Eli wins!" Leah shouted.

The school nurse was outside with them, and used his own ability to heal Charles. He only stepped in when an injury could be permanent or fatal, but left minor injuries alone as a reminder to try harder next time.

Leah stepped forward, "nice job Eli! I want you to try and lift heavier things, like people if you can. Charles, you need to make your spit stronger. Eli blew it back at you with a small gust of wind! That's not going to be helpful to anybody."

Eli walked away cheerfully, happy to show somebody up for a change.

Leah looked at the time, "that's all for today class! We'll continue with matches and recommendations later on, but for now, head on to your next class."

Everyone left and Alaric had this thought on his mind, 'why am I the only one who can't use a bright coin?'
