SHINOBI In A World Of Magic

Chapter 17 - The Battle Junkie

The class immediately were intrigued by their new classmates, especially the boys, and after the newcomers were settled in their seats some would gather at their desks and would ask them all sorts of questions like, 'which school did you go to before?', 'what subjects do you take?' and 'what do you like and dislike', and other stereotypical questions. They had explained they were triplets and stated their subject choices as well as a few likes and dislikes.

Yohan hoped for the best for them and stood by passively. However not for long...

"Yohan lets go introduce ourselves!" Quickly his social childhood friend pulled his anti-social self into the fray.

"Hello, I'm Stella! That's Tim, Mike, he's the class clown, Maria, Julia, Jane, she's a bit dramatic, Henry...." As the class president, she took it upon herself to introduce the class to the newcomers. She did not shy from joking and the class took it well, in fact her jokes weren't that exaggerated as no one protested their characters.

"That battle junkie over there is Yohan." Stella said. Everyone giggled, Yohan had a reputation for 'fighting against the odds'. He became much bolder in the past few months and took on 3 seniors from the year above simultaneously. This was inconceivable, however the more shocking part of it was, he laughed maniacally throughout the whole match. They felt they got an accurate understanding of his limits with that match, but they failed to notice was the extreme ease in his expression during that battle. They all had a feeling Yohan would become a more impressive mage than his sister. In their eyes Yohan was a battle-born mage. Yohan shrugged, he couldn't help it.

The feeling he got from battling others, seemed to have vented out some sort of lingering dissatisfaction. He didn't know why, but he felt empowered and refreshed. Maybe it was the adrenaline and the stimulation that came from it. To this day it still all felt like an illusion, that he wouldn't wish to be broken.

"Don't listen to that gossip, you might get some bad habits." Yohan parried. Everyone giggled once more, this time even the triplets joined. Yohan however earned a pinch on his side and the sight of a pouting expression on the Class president's cute freckled visage. After a good bit of banter the bell rang.

"Alright class, some of you who have the same subjects and teachers accompany your new classmates and make sure they feel welcomed." Their homeroom teacher instructed.

The triplet elves started to open up more after homeroom, they chatted with the others in the halls on their way to class and in the classrooms as well. They were integrating into their environment fairly well. The morning had progressed very peacefully. It was lunch time and people gathered in the schools' gymnasium. Students who were aspiring mages could use a sort of arena and people could view it as well, much like aspiring martial artists practicing in the school's dojo.

Yohan was the star attraction in their school, in fact the two guilds 'Light Bearers' and 'Wind Hawks', tried to scout him, however he would tactfully decline. This was due to his sister Amber drawing their attention, they first investigated for any siblings and see if they had any of their talent as well. They weren't disappointed when they found that Yohan was showing more promise than his older sister. Top grades, terrific battle sense and terrifying combat abilities. Yohan has only displayed two elements so far and everyone took it as his two affinity elements. All except the triplets.

Though multiple affinities were rare, studies of this world have shown that the term 'jack of all trades, master of none' would rear it's ugly head sooner or later. Training in one particular element to mastery was hard enough for the residents of this world, now imagine training two elements to mastery as well. Though it won't be twice as difficult since mana transformation principles were very similar among the spells and magic of the elements, but even so mages would rather focus and rely on one element to bring them success instead of wasting time and effort on an additional element even if they had the affinity for it.

Arwen, Ayne and Acia were also drawn to the commotion and they saw 6 people in the arena, they all wore sleeveless full body suits like the ones seen to be worn by characters of a mecha anime. Yohan was on one end while the other 5 were huddling on the other end. Yohan had a look of expectation against his 5 peers. Though it might not sound like much but these particular peers had noteworthy team co-ordination and could give a difficult time to a single D-ranked mage by interrupting and relentlessly forcing their target to keep on his/her toes. Yohan didn't want rely on his massive chakra reserve, which is comparable to a kage's, to overwhelm them; he wanted to be able to beat them with just his physical capabilities. There wasn't much difficulty in completely destroying his opponents, but he wanted a challenge

He looked up to Madara. Though he was using the sharingan, he was able to beat the living hell out of the shinobi alliance's armed ninjas b.a.r.e handed, even then he did it so leisurely. The scene would make anyone's blood boil; seeing Madara handle ninja after ninja, taking an average of 2 seconds to dispatch anyone foolish enough to charge at him, making them look like mere children.

"Okay, is everyone clear on the plan?" A raccoon beast-kid, who seemed to be the minds behind their team, asked. the scene looked like a guild leader instructing a party as they were about to raid the last stage's final boss of an MMORPG. Everyone curtly nodded. Their team consisted of three boys, the raccoon beast-kin, a high elf and a human, and 2 girls, one human and a rabbit beast-kin. They all spread out and eyed their opponent while each held a dummy weapon.

"Alright, are you ready everyone?!" A voice rang out. As cheers became more livelier, the triplets looked across to see none other than their class president, standing by a gong while holding a gong hammer. "Then lets get rrrreeeaady to rrrummmmbleeee!!!" With a 'gong', the match began.

Quickly the human boy and rabbit beast-girl charged at Yohan from different sides, while he was leisurely standing with his large fan resting upon his shoulder and a serene expression as if what approached was nothing but a cool breeze. The boy brandished a hard rubber head hammer and the rabbit-kin, her twin rubber headed hatchets. (A/N: Is this a berserker bunny or something?)

"Heh." Yohan's lips curled slightly. He side stepped to the left while facing perpendicular to where the boy was facing, avoiding the descending hammer in front of him, while the girl came from his back, viciously swung upwards diagonally. Yohan back flipped just in time, the hatchets narrowly missing his calves. However he still had to dodge. A thin wall of earth raised itself, placed at such an angle where it would be a bother to move around and dodge behind him or to his right, after which a mass of water flew from his left. However he just moved to his front left and dodged the impact.

The triplets were stunned with the movements he did without magic, plus he was also holding on to a giant heavy fan the whole time. The match continued with Yohan eluding the team's relentless co-ordinated assault. The human girl wielded water magic with her staff, the elf fired off a few blunt, soft headed arrows with his bow and the raccoon shouted out orders while wielding a dummy halberd, protecting the back line. Yohan knocked their weapons out of their grasp, disarming all of them to win the match.

"Winner! Yohan Uchiha!" The crowd cheered.

"Haha! Expected of the battle junkie." "Hey, but they lasted a minute longer than before" "Nah, the battle junkie could've finished them off, but he played with them a bit." "Is that why he was smiling?" "He always smiles when he fights. That's why he's the battle junkie." Everyone erupted in discussion.

"Miss Stella Murphy, you are to report to the student council office this instant." An announcement sounded off.

"Did the class president not do her duties?" "Seems like it." "No, I think it's because she's hosting fights in the gymnasium." "Could be both." People discussed as Stella scurried off with a dreaded expression towards the STUCO office. The crowd was dismissed and the students continued mingling before the bell called for them to return for classes

The day continued with Arwen and Acia demonstrating very learned behaviors while Ayne showed a more energetically rowdy behavior. After school ended and it was time to leave, Yohan and Stella were exiting and turning away from the gate when...

"Classmate Yohan can you please wait." Arwen called out to him, with Ayne and Acia popping their heads from behind.

"Sure but, you can just call me Yohan, we've already met before, no need to act like strangers." Yohan was nonchalant, while the surrounding students were shocked at the elves taking the initiative to approach Yohan, on the first day. Even Stella beside Yohan couldn't believe her ears as slight sparks appeared in her eyes.
